Mia Hart planned never to return to her home of St. Lucy's, an isolated island off of the coast of Maine after a tragic summer when she was 16 years old. Mia becomes a detective and has worked to leave the island firmly in her rear view. However, as a cold-case detective, she is sent back to investigate a suspicious death on St. Lucy's.
Mia is immediately immersed in the investigation when it is revealed that the dead body fished from the sea was investigating the summer that Mia left the island, never to return, and her involvement in the deaths of her friends that fateful night.
This book was a little slow at first but it picked up quickly and was really a page-turner by the end. I was impressed with Ms. Labuskes' ability to fully immerse the reader in the atmosphere and environment of St. Lucy's and the way each supporting character was fully fleshed-out and interesting. I'm definitely a Brianna Labuskes fan after this read. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes a good detective story.
I was provided an ARC of this book by the publisher and Netgalley, and am providing an honest review of this author's work.

This book was very well written. Nice and easy to read and flowed well. Had me on the edge of my seat. Wondering which way it was going to go. Great mystery can’t beat it.

I enjoyed this book as a mystery, the main character was great and I really enjoyed her journey back home. Overall I hope there's more in the series as I really liked this one.

Brianna Labuakes is an amazing author. In Black Rock Bay, she twists a compelling tale that has the reader grasping to find the answers and the secrets of the characters. I don’t know how she keeps track of all the twists and turns she creates in her novels but her heroine is someone who always comes across as slightly broken, but so very human.

Not a bad read at all.. the characters were believable and likeable.. Plot ran pretty smoothly throughout, although a bit more background on certain topics wouldn't go amiss

Loved ‘it ends with her’ and ‘girls of glass’’ so I was thrilled to receive an early copy of this new novel and wow, just wow! It’s even better if that’s possible. Detective Mis Hart reluctantly returns to a island she never thought she would set foot on again - her home town. Investigating a possible suicide, Mia’s story is told in two different timelines - now and fifteen earlier when she lost two friends to suicide. A thrilling read where you really think you know the answer and then the author throws massive twists and you just keep reading when you should be working, eating or sleeping. Suicide or murder, now and then.? Will she survive, will she find the answers before it’s too late.? Get this one as soon as it’s released.

How accurately do you remember your events from your childhood? The main character must answer that question to solve current and past crimes. The book kept me guessing although I had a good guess how some of the plot would go early on. I’d be interested in reading more books with these characters!

This was an intense thriller! I really enjoyed the way it was written. The dual mystery and dual perspective added extra layers of uncertainty to help build the tension. There was a lot going on in the investigation, but it was well-balanced with action and lead to a very satisfying ending as the tale unraveled. It was a great blend of detective fiction, thriller, and psychological elements, which makes the book widely appealing as a mystery.

This book draws you in one page one and keeps you in right until the end (even if I did work out the perpetrator about half way through (for once)). Two normally cold-case detectives, Mia and Izzy, are sent to an isolated island community to investigate a body mainly because it is Mia's home where strangers are evaded as much as possible. Mia left 15 years ago after the death of two of her closest friends and injury to herself - all apparently as part of a suicide pact. The body is apparently an investigative journalist possibly investigating the old deaths but nothing is a simple as it seems. The islanders close ranks, the weather closes in and there are links between all of the deaths. Twists and turns in the psychological thriller certainly keep you reading long after you should have gone to sleep. The characters develop nicely, Mia and Izzy bonding more as a team even if very different from each other. The locations feel - cold, both in the snow and the attitude of the locals. As the story develops it is also clear that Mia is a key player and not just as a her role as detective. I'll be looking out for other books by this author. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Mercer for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

When Mia returns to her hometown to investigate a body that was pulled from the water, the last thing she expects is to recognize the victim. Determined to find answers, she and her partner begin to investigate and the more they uncover, the more their investigation points to Mia and a tragic night from her teenage years. Mia’s only hope to find answers not only for her current case, but also for that night everything changed, is to follow the people until they find the one with all the answers.

Intense and gripping, Black Rock Bay is a book I just couldn’t put down. Well written, and fast paced with a plot that will keep you interested, the author seamlessly weaves together a web of lies so tangled, you won’t know who is to be trusted. This is definitely a book I would recommend to lovers of suspense.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Mia returns home after fifteen years when a murder of a reporter Robert is found she had vow to never return when two of her closest friends committed suicide.

When she find a written more from Robert saying. It wasn't suicide. She and her partner Izzy has to dig deeper and look into the past that had haunting her since she left it becomes more dangerous and complicated then she imagine .

As she puts herself on the line her and Izzy must stop the killer before they strike again as she faces her past. I like this both Mia and Izzy are heroine who has each other backs and I like that just when I think I know who the killer is I was wrong and surprise when the killer is reveal.

I would love to read more about these character's. In a way they remind me of Rizzoli and Isles.

Very twisty tale with strong female protagonists. Mia Hart return to her island home, a home she fled years ago after surviving a suicide pact that left two other friends dead. But Mia is back to solve a murder, and while her ties to her Maine island home might cloud her objectivity, she is also the only person who will be able to get the islanders to talk. Mia and her partner Izzy, arrive on the island during winter storm season, which cuts off their contact from the mainland for days at a time - not a good situation when a killer is loose. When Mia and Izzy realize that the murder is tied to the suicides at the lighthouse all those years ago, things become more complicated and more dangerous. This was a good, suspenseful read and the chill of the Maine winter came through the pages so vividly that it made me feel cold, even in the midst of a very hot summer!

After losing her two best friends on one terrible night, Mia Hart left St. Lucy’s, Maine, never planning to return. But never say never, because 15 years later, Detective Mia Hart is back in Maine looking into the death of a journalist found in the bay. She soon realizes this is no accident or suicide, because the journalist left a note claiming his life was in danger. As she investigates, Mia realizes that this recent death is linked to her own past and the deaths of her friends. Fast paced, with a sympathetic heroine, this is a great summer read
