The wonderful setting makes this story, the first I’ve read in the series. I wish I’d either read the first two books beforehand, or was provided with a little more info in the beginning. It took me a bit to figure out Jordan’s age (her five children range in ages from late teens to mid twenties, so I’m guessing she’s late forties?)) and her slightly odd (and slightly unrealistic) relationship with sophisticated, somewhat-mysterious, Frenchman Paul. I also found the writing a awkward at times. But the author tells a good story, of an out-of-the-ordinary, layered mystery featuring distinct, often unusual characters. And again, the setting - in and around Florence - is so well described, so evocative, that I could see the locations (most of which are familiar to me) in my mind.., and am now even more eager to go back.

Jordan is off to Tuscany with Alex, a happy travel companion. But, of course, things can't be that simple. Her romantic boyfriend meets her there, her boyfriend's newly discovered daughter creates drama, crimes are happening left and right and we are given a romantic and entangled backstory for Alex. Logically, I wanted to think too much was going on with too many coincidental things.....but it was just such a fun/exciting ride that I buckled in and just enjoyed the read. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. I really enjoyed it!

I got an advanced reader copy of the book Treachery in Tuscany by Phyllis Gobbell from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I want the publisher, Encircle Publications LLC, for the digital copy.

I had not previously read anything by this author and was mainly attracted to this work by the cover with the beautiful Giotto Campanile and by the setting in Florence.

As I know Tuscany and Florence rather well because we own an apartment in a small Tuscan villa I love to read books set in that region.
It turned out that this was the third book in a series about Jordan Mayfair, a kind of amateur sleuth who travels the world with her tourist guides writing uncle.
I'm a bit of two minds about this book. At first I found it a slow starter, until almost a quarter into the book I was wondering if anything significant was going to happen but then things got going and it turned out to be an interesting and suspenseful story and I must say that towards the end it was rather difficult to put it down. Even though I could guess quite early on who the culprit(s) were.
I think that the book is well written but there were a couple of rather sloppy mistakes in the ARC I got which one would hope are not in the finished book.
What always annoys me a little, and this book was not an exception, is when authors try to let their characters speak in a language that they themselves do not speak well, or not at all. That usually leads to unfortunate mistakes. In this case it leads to abbreviations of names that no Italian would ever use and multiple errors in names of Places etc.

So, as a mystery I found the book enjoyable, though lacking a bit in suspense. As to the setting in Tuscany I found the book not as evocative as I had hoped because it was quite apparent that the author has not much knowledge about the region and city. There are better series set in Tuscany / Florence from authors that know how to combine suspense and very evocative descriptions of the city.

An interesting and entertaining book. The characters are well written, the mystery is good and the setting is lovely.
I look forward to reading other books in this series.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Since this was my first time reading a book in this series I had no expectations regarding the characters or style of writing. Reading this third novel as a stand-alone was in no way problematic. The main character is Jordan, an architect who sometimes travels with her uncle Alex, a travel writer. Jordan has a propensity to become involved in other people’s problems and their misadventures. The descriptions of Florence, the Tuscan Hills, the museums, food and of course the architecture make for pleasant reading. If you like the Winemaker Detective Series you should enjoy this book.

This isn’t a complex mystery and I found it very easy to solve. This is also not an action filled, tense, fast paced story and the murder that concerns Jordan only happens half-way through the book. However, as a cozy mystery it certainly fits the bill. A pleasant summer read that will leave you wishing you were sitting at a trattoria in the streets of Florence.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for providing me with the opportunity to read this book.

This is part of a series but I read it as a stand alone story. Jordan and her Uncle Alex have come tot Florence. She for the architecture and he because he is writing a travel book of the area and a friend from fifty years ago had settled there and he hoped to visit his friend and family. They stay at a convent in Florence. There are some murders and thefts going on in the area. Jordan is trying to find out what caused the death of the young lady staying next door to her. Interesting history and art is included in the story.. A very good read.

I didn't realize this was a series, I read as a stand alone, however this book was really good. The character development was well written, and the background history of Italy was on point, I learned a few things I didn't know. I'm definitely interested in reading the 1st 2 books now as this one is book 3.

I enjoyed the characters, and the development of each one of them. I love the descriptions of where she travels. The author does a very good job describing the area, it feels like I’m there. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Treachery in Tuscany offers a must-read for Italian history, art, architecture and travel lovers. The in-depth description of the events from start to the end allows a person to shift their existence to Tuscany, Florence and other places mentioned in the book. The detailed description of the culture, food, architecture, traditions and festivals permits a person the Italian experience without being there. Apart from the detailed descriptions explaining the plot and environment, the reading offers a story of diverse worlds. As the story unfolds, added mystique captures the interest of the reader. Because of the diverse plots in the book, the reader keeps on wondering about the next chapter. The book presents the ability to capture all imaginations. Embedded in the events, the lives of various individuals, families and daily events unfold into a majestic investigation story. In addition, the love between Jordan and Paul provides a softer side to the plot developed later in the book. Apart from the logical but insightful explanation of the manner in which the different role players connect to each other, the book allows for easy reading. Using the Italian language to explain the restaurants, convent, art and event places set the scene. I advise this book to any reader who loves the Italian landscape, history, and people.

I read this as a NetGalley loan. I don't usually jump into a series but I don't think I realized that this was #3 when I borrowed it.

I really enjoyed the book. I liked the descriptions of Italy and the premise of her being in Florence was believable. The protagonist is a good mix of timid and tenacious without being too much of either.

I would recommend this book.

My favorite of the series so far, the author is really doing a wonderful job with the descriptions of these characters, and the development of each one of them. I really find myself caring for the main character and hoping that she gets out of things and doesn't get hurt. I love the descriptions of where she travels. The author does a very good job about that. It makes me feel like I'm in the location. There were some slight spelling errors that need to be auto corrected. The i before e type of error. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I definitely recommend this book to lovers of cozy mysteries.

*I would like to thank the author/publisher/Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and exchange for a fair and honest review.*
