Utterly speechless!! She has done it again with another jaw dropping thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Eva wakes up in a hospital learning horrid news and has no recollection of the events leading to her hospitalization. But things are not always as they seem. You are taken on a wild ride of twists and turns you won’t see coming. A must read and this author has become a one-click for me.

I don’t know if it’s me and I think like a psycho or if this book was so utterly predictable. Every moment that should have been a shocking revelation was something I had already guessed. Every. Single. One. Does this make me a psychopath? Or maybe just really perceptive? Or maybe this was just that predictable.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes. I still enjoyed reading the book. I can’t say that it was the best psych thriller I’ve read due to its predictability but it was still a good entertaining read. I love a good psych thriller though.

Synopsis:

If you can’t remember it, how do you prove you didn’t do it?

Eva Hansen wakes in the hospital after being struck by lightning and discovers her mother, Kat, has been murdered. She can’t remember what happened before that night, but the police seem highly suspicious of her.

Determined to clear her name, Eva heads from Seattle to London—Kat’s former home—for answers. But as she unravels her mother’s carefully held secrets, Eva soon realizes that someone doesn’t want her to know the truth. And with violent memories beginning to emerge, Eva doesn’t know who to trust. Least of all herself.

The book also bounces back between the past with Eva’s mother’s point of view and the present. Usually the multiple pov thing bothers me but in this instance it isn’t a jarring shock to go from Eva’s pov to Kat’s. It flows nicely and appropriately.

I am giving Behind Every Lie a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It was thoroughly entertaining even through its predictability.

Thank you NetGalley for supplying a copy of a Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald for a fair and honest review.

Behind Every Lie is a wonderfully twisted thriller! The story line is well-developed and the characters beautifully flawed and some of them slightly unlikeable. I felt the pace of the novel got bogged down at times due to an over abundance of details and descriptions. Having said that, the them of rebirth and growth sing true. Sometimes a person needs to shatter in order to come together whole. “Behind every lie is person and a reason”.

Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald. A twisty, fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing till the final chapter. Told in alternating points of view in the past and present day. Eva's quest for answers and Kat's puzzling history tells a story which explores the complex nature of mother-daughter ties, family abuse, ominous threats and interwoven secrets.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

I loved The Night Olivia Fell. I enjoyed this one just as much. No sophomore slump for Christina McDonald.

I just love the way this author writes. It flows so easily. The characters are so layered. The story starts with one hell of an epilogue and then shifts in narrative from daughter to mother, past and present. She deftly handles this slowly revealing the many subplots.

There were red herrings and surprises, quite a few. I saw some of them coming, but not all, and there were some doozies! There is a lot going on here and it was one crazy ride! I can’t wait for the next one!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Gallery, Pocket Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

Eva wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened the night before. She has been struck by lightening and her mother was murdered. Was Eva involved somehow?

In Christina McDonald's second novel we explore Eva's memory loss with her as she struggles to remember what happened. I adored Eva. She had a traumatic experience in her past that shapes the way she feels about herself now and her relationships. I loved watching her gain her strength throughout the story. I liked Eva's mom, Katherine. Her story is revealed primarily in flashbacks and as the story comes to a close, the two women's stories combine in an amazing way. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed McDonald's first book, The Night Olivia Fell. This book has a very similar feel and pulls you in very quickly. It is a great book for everyone who loves a twist! Just when you think you have the story figured out, another twist appears!

This book was unputdownable! It was fast moving with lots of twists, turns and surprises. There was a moment when I was about halfway through where something significant happened or was revealed and I thought, “Wow, she could end this book right here and it would still be a great story!” I loved the chapters alternating between Kat and Eva. Definitely recommend this thriller. It was lightening paced and will keep you guessing until the end. I was also fascinated learning about kintsugi - which ties beautifully into the storyline. 4.5 stars!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. Behind Every Lie will be released on February 4, 2020.

What is the bond between mum and child? What would you do to protect a child? Eva gets struck by lighting and can't remember what happened that night and then she finds out her mum is dead. What happened? Was Eva there when Kat died? who would want to hurt her? Now Eva is on a mission to figure out what happened.

So I figured out kind of what happened but the other twist totally surprised me. I liked
eva alot! She was relatable and I understood why she made a lot of the choices she did. The plot was building a great pace and I was racing toward the end to find out what had really happened the night Kat died and who Eva really was. I like that it had the main plot but there was also other parts that made you question everyone in their lives.

I was thrilled that Netgally approved me to read this book. I had read "The Night Olivia Fell" and LOVED it, I could not believe it was her debut novel. I found this book to be just as good, if not better! “Behind Every Lie”, is just that, so many secrets, and so many twists and turns. When you think you have it figured out, nope, another twist!!! And I mean a lot of twists!!! Whew!! I was hooked from the beginning, and could not put it down. Christina is a very good story teller, and she knows how to write a thriller. I will definitely will read every book she writes!! This book is to be released in Feb 2020, order your copy, you will not be disappointed!!!

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. I was a huge fan of McDonald’s first novel and was super excited when I was able to get an advanced copy of this new story.

It did not disappoint! It is told from the viewpoint of Eva as well as her mother, Kat but that one is told from a past view. The story of the relationship between mother and daughter was very captivating. When Eva wakes at a hospital she discovers her mother has been murdered and Eva is the prime subject. Eva starts digging up the past to figure out who Kat’s killer could be before Eva herself is charged with the crime. The story is not only a thriller but a mystery.

I was hooked on to this story from page one and needed to know how it all worked out. There was one particular storyline that I felt unsure of why it was included in the plot until it is revealed the last few pages.

I would recommend this book. Great read and excellent thriller about mother and daughter and the complicated but loving relationship it has.

I received an e-copy of this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Eva Hansen wakes up in a hospital room with no memory of what happened. She's told she was struck by lightening. She's also informed that her mother, Kat, has been found dead. The police are highly suspicious of Eva as they found her just down the street from her mother's house not long after the murder.

Looking to find the truth and clear her name, Eva goes back to her mother's former home of London to get to the bottom of things. The more she learns, the more she feels there is someone who doesn't want her to know all this information. Between this and resurfacing of memories from the night of the murder, Eva doesn't know who, or what, she can trust.

This book flips between Eva in the present and Kat past to present. Kat and Eva have both survived many challenges and difficult lives but nothing is what it seems....Kat has a lot of secrets and Eva is having to figure them all out on her own, with additional pressure from the police watching her every move. This book was fantastic as I had a feeling it would be after reading The Night Olivia Fell. I definitely recommend this book when it publishes February 4, 2020!

Behind Every Lie is a mystery on top of a mystery and when you begin to uncover every lie it leads to another and another !
Eva Hansen wakes up in the hospital after being struck by lightning with no memory of the night before , the night her mother was murdered!
The police are questioning Eva as she is their prime suspect.
Told in the past and present from Eva and her Moms point of view!
Christina McDonald has become my go to author for everything that seems like something!
Just when you think you have it all figured out, the only thing you know for sure, is that you know nothing !
Such a great book, with all the twists and turns that will keep you up all night reading!

Eva has been struck by lightning, leaving her with no/little memory of the night before. She learns her mom has been killed leaving her looking like a suspect. She is told the issues she might have as she recovers include being disoriented and possibly irrational, but she does irrational things in spite of it.
I was really frustrated with her actions and refusal to listen to help from others, but finished the book anyway. It did get better.
Not great, not bad, kind of so so, but I will give it 3 stars.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader's copy in exchange for my opinion/review. This was a fun book. It was either a shorter book or fast read. The writer keeps you guessing until the end, and the end has a lot of twists and turns that i didn't predict.

I can hardly believe that this is just the second Novel for author Christina McDonald. Her debut novel, The Night Olivia Fell, was a favorite of mine. After reading two of her novels I realize that she knows mother daughter relationships. No matter what the circumstances these relationships are tricky and delicate and she knows this. In Behind Every Lie we get intrigue and mystery along with some peril, but we get another amazing story about Mother/daughter relationships.

I found this book to be just as good as her debut, maybe even better. There were some expected outcomes but also many twists I didn't see coming. I loved the dual points of view in this story between mother and daughter, it really added another depth to this book.

Behind Every Lie captured me from the very start and I couldn't stop reading until I finished. Another 5 star book for Christina McDonald. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
