This was a very dark, gripping read. You will feel absolutely repulsed by the MCs, as Kerk gives us a deep dive into their minds. Do not go in expecting them to have any redeeming qualities, this story lays bare some of the darker sides of humanity. It absolutely had my stomach twisting at times, Kerk's descriptions are so vivid. I'm rating this at a 4 because it was very well-written, even if the subject was horrifying. Definitely not for everyone.

A twisted novel that I read in a day. Would have liked a more complete ending but still kept my interest

This book was very graphic, I found it not a good read before bed!
I wouldn't be able to say I enjoyed it but it was extremely well written and I definitely kept reading until the end due to this. It started slow but once it got going i wanted to keep reading it long into the night (but i didnt because, nightmares lol

This book was extremely difficult to read. They do have a trigger warning which is extremely important to listen to! I have worked in the mental health field for years and this book was like being in the mind of a real psychopath!

I can't even begin to rate this book. The plot was garbage. The characters are awful. The story didn't make sense in any way. It ended abruptly, and with no real ending. The only reason I didn't list this as DNF is because my Kindle told me I could be done with it in 6 hours and I figured that was short enough to be able to suffer through it. I really wish I had put this down after the first chapter. It was a complete waste of my time and I feel dumber as a person for having read it.

This is one intense, twisted, dark and addictive novel! Not only is this a very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters, but the suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Compulsive, gripping and horrifying! Will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This book was something completely different from any book I have ever read. The first few chapters definitely captured my attention with Jason ending up in a mental institution after events he cannot remember. Every time the story turned to Jerry, I cant believe that you get people like that in real live, watching you, stalking you. But I never thought the two stories will become one. This book is not for the faint hearted, but with the warning in the front of the book I excepted more

The first few chapters caught my attention. I was intrigued...a man with amnesia in a psychiatric centre. Something bad has happened to land him there...what is going on??? But then the circumstances are quickly revealed and a whole new (despicable and uninteresting) character is introduced. At first I was confused, then I was disgusted, and then I was bored. The writing felt rushed and superficial. Too much internal dialogue at times. Not enough suspense or character development. I felt like it needed more revisions to get where it needed to be. I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is amazing. It is so scary and real but I absolutely loved it. This needs to be a Netflix series asap!!

While this book was nothing short of dark and disturbing , I thought it was very well written and it sucked me in from page one as the characters were so intense and interesting. While the subject matter may not be what I normally read, it was so compelling I couldn't put it down. While it won't be a book I could recommend to all my reading friends, there is definitely a few who will enjoy this thriller!

Hard to read this one so I just finished now while on a break from All The Light.... It’s definitely dark and twisted and uncomfortable at times.

Not sure still if Jason is really innocent. Because it felt for sure that it’s more than just Jerry. And honestly while reading the book I wasn’t sure where it was going. For awhile, looking at the table of contents, I thought Jerry and Jason were the same person. There is a mystery to solve in this book, but the psych aspect really is the focal point here.

Thanks @jaykerkbooks for the copy of the book.

Very dark and twisted book about two different people. One who’s sanity is lost after he kills his family. Another who is a very disturbing individual who is a pedophile. Some things are very detailed and disturbing to read. I don’t think this is made for everyone since it is pretty graphic but I love how the author seemed to do a lot of research prior to writing. This was fast paced and suspenseful throughout. Enjoyed reading it

Lovely sad read. Pulled at the heart strings. But it was well written and flowed very well. Not the time ype of book I usually read due to the sensitive nature.

TW this book deals with issues of sexual abuse and mental health issues. It's not a book I can say j enjoyed reading considering the subject matter. It was well written and the 2 voices were very separate voices.

Giving three stars to this Kerk novel, which translates to "I liked it." This book is cringe worthy, but in the best way possible! It takes a brave author to write about the taboo topics we, as a society, continue to deny occur on a daily basis (incest, rape, pedophilia, etc.). Though I would recommend this read to a fellow psychology buff or colleague at the police department, I would not suggest this book to the "average Joe." This book is definitely for a specific audience.

A Predator and a Psychopath was easy to read, which is important to me. When I am reading for my own pleasure and enjoyment, I tend to not gravitate towards books with technical jargon. This was my first exposure to writer Jay Kerk, and it certainly will not be my last; I'm about to look up other works by him! As a lifelong fan of Stephen King, I have an expectation of my horror and thriller books, and this book did not disappoint.

Interesting premise and characters. The story line caught my attention and I was really looking forward to this one. I was hoping for a little more development.
Thanks Netgalley for a chance to read.

The novel starts in first-person narrative with Jason, who wakes up in a mental hospital with absuluttno idea how he got there, alongside a therapist who appears to doubt a lot more than just his sanity. Gently, this time Jason is guided into recognising the terrible truth: his family is dead by his own hand, and it appears that he had molested his own daughter.
Jason's therapist, however, believes he is innocent. But if that is so, who is the real wrongdoer? The task of clearing his name and reuniting with another long-lost son are all that motivate Jason once he is outside.
Now, the narrator switches to Jerry. It is soon apparent that this character is not one any parent would wish to have a there near their children: he likes his girlfriends young. Underage, in fact. He also gets his kicks from spying on his landlord's tenants' sex lives. He is finally encouraged by another like-minded soul on the dark web to make the ultimate gesture of Nietzschean superiority and murder. But what is the link between Jerry and Jason's family?
Every good crime reader needs to be able to depict evil - this novel is no exception, it is just that this novel include true-to-life graphic and explicit details about how a psychopath like Jerry would behave.
Overall, this was a good read, though not without a loose end here and there plot wise. Just as in real life, of course.

Here's the thing, I had to read this book twice, because it was a bit confusing. The story is broken into 4 parts, spoken by 2 different people, but you don't get that right away until damn near the end, because you assume it's the same person the whole time. It literally jumps from one person to the next.

The story is very VERY VERY disturbing, but I was willing to look past all that. What I have a problem with was how it all ended. It was pure trash. It was one of the most lame endings I've ever read in my life. I also believe that the writer himself is a closet pedophile, and used this book to write a sick fantasy of his.

For that reason alone I give the whole story a 1 rating. This is my honest opinion.

Trigger Warning: Child Rape, Pedophilia, Mental Health, murder and a long list of other things that you can think of (side -eye)

A Predator and a Psychopath by Jay Kerk is disturbing. It’s so disturbing that I struggled to read this book for long periods of time – I had to give my imagination a break. I did not enjoy it at all, and not only because of the subject manner, but also because it was an unsatisfying read.

Having read the blurb, and the first few chapters of the book, I thought it would be a journey of what happened to Jason to get to where he is now. It is not at all. The sections relating to Jason jumped around and I felt like pieces of the puzzle were just not there. There were gaps in the story that left me confused. Maybe this was intentional as he suffers from amnesia, but it just did not work for me.

The sections about Jerry (the psychopath) were just filled with disgusting scenes that made me shudder and feel ill. Again, I thought there might be some educational element about psychopathic behavior but there wasn’t – I learnt nothing.

Through character development, an author attempts to get the reader to love, hate, relate, connect, sympathise etc… with the characters, but I felt nothing for either of these men (nor the few, undeveloped supporting characters). There’s no conclusion to anything and not even a hint of what might be coming. It’s as if the last few pages of the book were torn out.

I was looking forward to reading this, but I really struggled with it – a big disappointment.

I did not like this. If there had been some redeeming qualities at the end of the book, I would have felt better having read a how-to in sadistic pedophiles r us. Nothing came full circle at the end and I wasted my time.
