I didn't expect a book on nut butters to be great, but this is actually a very interesting and helpful guide to making and using a staple. Highly recommended!

This book has some good recipes it. The book also seemed to have a humorous tone. I felt like it gave me the confidence to try making my own nut butter. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.

I have attempted (semi-successfully) to make almond butter before and loved the final product. That was the most basic thing to do. I have not gone back and tried it again, mostly because I did not see my consumption increasing any time soon. This book might change that situation. It has a simple cover and the content is also quite simply conveyed but that does not take anything away from the quality of it all.

We are first led into the idea of no-dairy 'butters' (this is not a completely vegan book since there are a couple of other recipes but for the most part can be adapted to a vegan diet). Then there is a very clear and helpful table indicating the toasting times of all the ingredients. After a set of interesting combinations of butters and suggestions for further ones, we are shown how to incorporate it into our daily food routine. The ideas vary from Breakfast to Dinner. These recipes are mostly great and simple (once you get the hang of waiting for these ingredients to move on to the butter phase from just crumbles) and I enjoyed the whole experience. I did not expect so much helpful information going in, and it was a very pleasant surprise to come away with a drive to start making a lot of them! I recommend this to any novice (like me) who has always been curious about the idea.

I received a temporary advance reviewer copy from NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is completely based on my reading experience and the dreams I now have of turning some of the recipes into reality.

Nut Butter
Over 50 Clean and Simple Recipes to Fuel a Healthy Lifestyle
by Carolyn Cesario; Julie Sullivan
Andrews McMeel Publishing

The authors are more than business women and nut butter makers. They had a vision to provide women with business knowledge, skills and eventually empower them. Their business hires women, teaches them from where they are and in the process produces interesting delicious varied nut butters that do not include peanuts, are healthy and for the most part plant based.

Why did I want to read and review this book? Because I have been making peanut butter since I moved to Lebanon in 1978 and could not find it on the grocery shelves. At that point in time I didn’t branch out much but it was a mainstay and something I made weekly...along with ketchup.

There are peanut butters with chocolate and jelly and honey and other things but this book has some very unusual flavoring ideas that include espresso powder, rose water, cardamom, hot pepper and...others. There are recipes for basic spreads but also variations and suggested additions. There are recipes for breakfast, snacks, dressings & sauces, savory, sweet treats and at the end there is a list of items to stock in the pantry. There is information on how and where to store nuts, what does and does not work, what to put the finished product into and wisdom shared from the many versions they have tried.

I believe this would be a fun cookbook to add to my collection.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Great book, very informative, Very well written and great photographs. I found the instructions on making nutbutter was easy to follow and understand. Unfortantely I was not able to try any of the recipes that the book had to offer because the advance copy I received electronically was incomplete. It is too bad that happened, the recipes looked delicious. I was not able to give a full review.

Oh wow, I feel like I was tricked with this book. "Nut butters! It's a book about grinding up nuts and spreading on toast! Super easy, super simple."

Nope.

There are a LOT of recipes for different, delicious, oozy good nut butters, and just about all are made with ingredients you can get at any grocery story.

But then come the other recipes:
For breakfast: Coconut Crepes with Chocolate-Hazelnut Cashew Butter. Cardamom Banana Bread with Nut Butter Streusel.
A Savory chapter: Broccoli Quinoa Bowls with Walnut-Miso Dressing. Squash & Cauliflower Tacos with Almond Mole. Fresh Spring Rolls with Cardamom Satay Sauce.
Sweet Treats: Snickerdoodle Swirl Skillet Cookie. Turkish Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies.

If those recipe titles don't have your mouth watering yet, you should see the photographs that accompany them. And those are just a small sample of the amazing recipes included. I cannot open this book without my stomach growling and my mouth watering.

This book is so much more than a nut butter book. It does include the basics such as stocking your kitchen, storing different nuts and how to toast them, etc. The nut butters also sound scrumptious. But it's the recipes using the nut butters that are absolutely fantastic and really raise this book to a level I was not expecting. I was not expecting such a special book, but this is one I need for my shelf and will likely be giving as Christmas presents as well.

Many thanks to NetGalley for allowing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'll be submitting my Weight Watchers bill to them shortly. ;)

I just bought a Vitamix and was excited to make my own nut and seed butters, so this book could not have come at a better time. The book itself is beautiful. Love the layout, fonts, and pictures. However, I expected more actual nut butter recipes in a book called "Nut Butter." There are only ten in there! I wouldn't buy this book for that reason; I was expecting different nut and spice combinations instead of recipes that have me adding nut butter to a smoothie.

This is a really quick read, but it is packed with some creative and innovative ways to use nut butter, and some pretty interesting ways to make different types of nut butters with a plethora of nuts (not peanuts!). The photography in this book is gorgeous and showcases how beautiful such a "basic" food can be. I loved how this cookbook pushes what a nut butter is and ways to use it (nut butter in a coffee drink!!!) and even go as far as using the creative use of nut butter in savory dishes. I would definitely suggest this one for anyone looking to up their food game and include more nuts into their diet as the recipes are easy to follow and don't include many things that are difficult to find.

"Nut Butter" is a fabulous guide to making your own nut butters at home. The recipes, pictures, and tidbits were great throughout the whole book. So many tips and so many ways to use your nut butters. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to trying many of the recipes.

I was provided with an electronic ARC by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for honest review.

Uh.......

YUM! This is honestly one of my favorite cookbooks I've ever read. The introductions and writing was great. The authors own "Ground Up" which is a nut butter business. In this lovely cookbook, you'll find some of their original recipes. I can't wait to bust out my food processor which I've had for years and has never been used.

*Thanks so much to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review

"Nut Butter" explained how to make your own nut butters and how to use nut butters in other recipes. The authors have a small business that makes nut butters with no refined sugar or added oils; just nuts, seeds, spices, and a touch of honey if desired. They provided information on 12 common nuts and seeds and described how to make these into nut butters, from buying and storing them to toasting and food processing them. You only need the minimal ingredients, an oven, and a food processor. Then they provide 18 recipes for nut and seed butters, from plain almond butter to mixes like Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. Finally, they provided food recipes that used these nut butters (for example, adding them to smoothies). There were 11 recipes for breakfast, 8 for snacks, 8 for dressings and sauces, 14 for savory dishes, and 13 for deserts. Overall, I'd recommend this book to people interested in making their own nut butters.

This is probably a 5 star book, but only 3 nut butter recipes and only small fragments of the food recipes showed up in my review copy. I can only really comment on the first part of the book, which was good.

Really cool look at different nut butters and how to go about creating your own. I don't know that I'll really make anything from this book because, expensive, but I enjoyed the reading of it and the glimpse into creating something new to me.

Who doesn't like nut butter? This cookbook contains easy to follow recipes requiring little to no effort. The recipes offer a unique approach to different types of nut butter that will surely shake things up in your kitchen. I will definitely try out a few of them with my new grinder. The authors are very candid about their business operations, their outreach to women at risk, and the healthy and not so healthy side of nut butter. Overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to purchasing a few of their jars in the future.
