This book wasn't for me, sadly, although the overall package is great. But I'm sure it will be very helpful for others.

A book of prompts to help you work through what you should be doing with your life, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND DO WHAT YOU LOVE helps you find a way within yourself to use your interests to your advantage. No one wants to work at a job that makes them miserable, but it's often hard to figure out what job you can love while still earning a livable wage. This helps you work through your blockades.

This is more of a self-help book that helps you reach your goals and figure out what you want in your life and make it happen. I am not a big self-help reader even though I should be!

I loved this little motivational book from Kate James, and I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a reminder that you're worthy of fulfilling your wildest dreams. The book was an easily-digestable read, making it perfect for picking up and flicking through to find a little inspiration whenever it's needed. It would also be a fantastic gift!

Book: “Believe in Yourself and Do What You Want to Do,” Kate James, Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2019

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

Book available: September 24, 2019

Quite literally, “It is far better to be the best version of yourself than a second-rate version of someone else.” It is better to figure out your values and interests and follow through on what makes you a special “You.”

It is most important to pay attention to your dreams and listen to your intuition. With having said that, simply give yourself a deadline and just choose an activity to pursue. In choosing that activity, do not choose that which you think will impress others that you went to school with or your family members, do it for yourself.

Other good points include mind mapping which is a free flow of ideas based on free thinking without limitations. I, personally, have used this strategy for many years and love its results. Also, start out small with baby steps and try not to climb Mount Everest at the first attempt at mountain climbing.

In all, Kate James, comes up with 50 ideas or strategies on how to do what you want to do. They are good snippets of information and inspiration.

This is a good book to read from cover to cover or by simply picking a page at random and reading that section.

It is a good inspirational book with good practical advice.

I give the book 4 out of 5 stars.

I think we all go through periods when we question what we are doing with our lives. This is the book you want to have at your side when that happens. Containing 50 tips, ideas and strategies to help with self-reflection - many of those combined with practical exercises to undertake - this book doesn't really contain anything new, but what it does offer is a beautifully presented all-in-one resource to help you move forward in those times. Kate James is the voice of that friend we could all do with; the one who is unfailingly sensible and wise and doesn't shy away from the truth.

The hardcover edition would make a lovely gift for a friend who is stressed, lost, or otherwise having a hard time. Or just for yourself of course!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the first self help books I have ever read, and it was very interesting.
While much of the book felt quite cliche, 'just do it' type things- some was also useful.
It included practical ideas about what you can do to improve your life, and I highlighted some passages to refer to later.

Overall, an easily consumable and quick uplifting read that I would recommend!

I really enjoyed this book- there isn't necessarily anything new but the layout of the book, the gentle tone and the simple but to the point writing makes it such a pleasure to read. There are great practical ways to work on your own personal development. I definitely plan to read this one again and do some of the exercises! Thank you to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Overall not a bad book, but at times I felt like it was redundant. I took the quiz in the beginning and the results were that I was doing OK. Good to know. Advice like "getting a roll model" or not to worry about money, since 3rd world countries are happier. I still want indoor plumbing. I started out reading, and then switched to skimming. Would make a good book to read right before bed, as a little goes a long way. Would recommend, but not necessary my type of book.

I DNF’d this one at 38%... And then got to thinking. Why was I deciding not to finish this? Because I felt it catered to a particular type of woman. But then I realised the book was catered to me - it was just a matter of interpreting it in a different way. I did feel that a lot of the advice was a little ‘just do it!’ but pages such as the workplace list - rating aspects of your job out of 10 to see whether you actually enjoy it - were beyond helpful. I’ve seen things in a different light and will definitely be keeping a few of the lessons in mind when it comes to decisions I’ll make in the future.

'Believe in Yourself and Do What You Love' by Kate James is a book I was drawn to because this is something my Mom always told me growing up. Still to this day, it's an affirmation I tell myself all the time. This book has tips and advice on how to live your life with more self-confidence and self-belief. Each little chapter is about 2-3 pages long and provides inspiring notes on everything from how to tap into your creativity, discovering your strengths, choosing a career, and how to do what you love. and so much more! This is not the type of book you should sit down and read in one sitting because I think it's best used as a pick-me-up to peruse when you're feeling down or stuck in your life.

Kate's writing style is simple and to the point. She doesn't come across as preachy or guru like, rather, her words sound encouraging, confident, hopeful, and achievable.

Add 'Believe in Yourself and Do What You Love' by Kate James to your bookshelf for a daily dose of self-empowerment.
