This story packs a punch. It is well written and poignant. Many events portrayed in the book are sorrowful and gritty with emotion and convey the situation to the reader to allow for images of the events to develop vividly.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC copy of the book. The opinions expressed above are my own.

Finished this one last night. This was a great read.

A true story about a man named Jeff Morris. It starts with him as a young adult wanting to become a SEAL. It goes on through his enlistment in the military, what happened in Iraq, and the aftermath when he came home.

This was not a sugarcoated story. Jeff was brutally honest about things that happened to him and his men. I teared up several times and even cried once. That never happens.

This is a heartbreaking story but also one of triumph.

This was such a fascinating read that even my fiancé found that he loved. He isn't much of a reader so this is a testament to this book. He read it and found it easy to read and I did as well. It was written in a way that a civilian with basic knowledge of military could understand what was being said. I hope this book gets the attention it deserves before being released. I know I will do my part and share it around and encourage people to read it.

For everyone who believes that soldiers are just a bunch of knuckle-dragging gorillas, I recommend this book. For all of their faults, Morris points out that at the end of the day soldiers are caring and compassionate humans just trying to do a job. My hat is off to him for a wonderful, touching book.

The author wrote a memoir that perfectly captured the triumphs and setbacks of their life. It was easy to empathize with the author due to the raw writing.

This is an incredible read if you want to learn about the journey Jeff Morris has taken in serving his country. Not all of it is an easy read, as he was deployed to Iraq more than once as an officer and there were losses that were difficult. But it’s well written and I was interested in his time over there, along with the after effects on a person, and learned quite a lot from reading this. I recommend it for anyone who likes military biographies. Advance electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, authors Jeff Morris with LC Mickler, and the publisher.
