Alice Henderson's Wednesday started like normal, that was until when she was at her job with the newspaper she got a call threatening her life with a cheese cutter string. Shaken, she headed to the coffee shop where someone had already pre-ordered her coffee- it was like this caller knew her exact steps and her order. As the book goes along, Alice starts to dread Wednesdays as she knows that day she will receive a call from her stalker and something awful will happen. Who is stalking Alice and Why are Wednesdays important to them? Has she pissed someone off with her newspaper columns? We soon learn when the police get involved that Alice's name wasn't always the same and that a few years ago she was involved in a scandal that sent her fiancee to prison and to start fresh, she moved away and changed her name. Is he the stalker especially as he is now out of prison and cannot be located or is it someone else closer to Alice? This was a great thriller and as it's a revenge-based novel, we see the past/present timeline come into action. I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll was a great thriller that kept me guessing when the "stalker" was revealed, I was shocked as I didn't see this twist coming.
If you are in the mood for a good UK stalker thriller, then check out I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll today.

Like other Teresa Driscoll books, this story did not disappoint. I enjoyed it, and found it moved smoothly and quickly while keeping my total interest.

I actually really enjoyed this. When I read mysteries and thrillers now I judge the story based on of if I can guess what is going to happen at the end. If I can guess the twist.

And this twist blew me out of the water. I guessed the motivate but not the who. There were so many red herrings and we were being taken on so many directions for clues and it was so great.

I really truly enjoyed this one.

And it ended with a happy ending which I really appreciated

My first book by this author so wasn't sure what to expect but the title had me, it sounded like a crime thriller - my favourite genre - I was not wrong. A good quick read with some triggers (child abuse, sexual assault - tho not graphic - psychological torture).
I suspected everyone I think!
I enjoyed how the book was separated into the different characters points of view, Alice, Matthew and "him".
I particularly enjoyed reading the parts with Matthew, the private investigator and would love to read more about him.
I would recommend and may never look at Wednesdays the same way again!

Book Blurb - Every Wednesday, like clockwork, the terror returns.
Alice, a journalist has been having strange things happen to her every Wednesday. Why? That is the question and the set up to this story. It was very interesting and had me questioning some of the characters around her. At one point I thought, what if this person is involved. I was quickly distracted by someone else. I think the author did a good job of arousing suspicion and turning the story to others. In the mean time by heart cried for the little boy who was taken advantage of by a pervert. Very good flow to the book. I would highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

This book has been on my TBR for ages. I couldn’t put it down. It will have you turning pages well into the night.

"I am going to use cheese wire on you."

Intriguing line told from a distorted voice over a phoneline. It had me hooked. Who does this, calls a newspaper and says a line like that.

I also found Alice compelling. I thought there were a few too many threads and red-herrings but I did like Alice's pieces of the mess. I liked the additional POV of the PI, Matthew. I like how real and grounded he made the story seem, and how he gave us the police side of things.

But the previous POV, the little boy. I dreaded these parts of the story. I can see how it played in to the plot and why it seemed it was needed but I really didn't enjoy it.

All in all, lots of messy threads but I was entertained and hooked. I liked the audiobook narrators and enjoyed listening to this one.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

I was provided an ARC of this book via Netgalley, but I have since purchased both the ebook and audiobook versions. I opted to listen to the audiobook, as always all opinions are my own.

This book has been on my TBR for ages, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I needed a good phycological thriller that I didn't have figured out by the end of the 2nd chapter and didn't have insufferable characters. The author does a good job giving you the run around and misdirecting you as to who the stalker might be throughout. You kind of suspect everyone at one point or another, but no one seems like a likely candidate. I appreciated that I didn't really know who it was until the reveal. I also appreciated that the author was able to put her real life experience as a journalist into play in the storyline.

This is an older title so I won't go too much into detail as the synopsis give you a good summary of what the story is about with out too many spoilers. Alice is a journalist, and it quickly becomes apparent that she has a stalker when every Wednesday something odd, creepy or terrible happens. The stalker escalates each week, but the police and the private investigator that Alice and her partner hire can't find the stalker or any motive as to why she is being targeted. Alice is forced to take time off from work but she is itching to get back out there and write the pieces she is passionate about. Alice is determined to uncover the link between her and the person tormenting her.

I really enjoyed this thriller. Alice was stubborn at times and didn't always make the best choices, but after thinking about it I have to imagine that anyone under those conditions in real life might not make the best choices given the circumstances. I thought the author did a good job portraying the frustrating truth about law enforcement when it comes to stalkers. There isn't much they can do until a crime is committed and they have an actual suspect, which is very frustrating and terrifying for the victim. I also liked that we got perspectives from Alice, Matt (the PI), and "Him" (the stalker). We really get to understand each of them and their motivations throughout. You often don't get the perspective of the villain, but we got to see "his" side and you almost sympathize with him a bit. I thought that was a creative touch.

Overall, this was a quick read with good pacing and decent action.

The pacing of the book was good. I thought I would enjoy the stalker theme more than I did. I was a little uncomfortable. The subject matter may not be for me.

The beginning is what caught my attention. The cheese omg i know what they look like and my god i could picture it in my head. The story is really well told. Hope to read more from this author.

I enjoy a good stalker tale. The tension here was good and I enjoyed the mysterious "HIM" POV but this one ultimately fell a bit flat for me in the end. A good read but I had it figured out and was hoping for more in the end.

A great book for emotionally disturbing the reader as you will wish you could grab Alice by the shoulders and give her a good 'talking to', as paranoia, fear and frustration lead her to make some very dubious decisions in the face of escalating behaviour from 'HIM'. You'll quickly find yourself embroiled in the story, flying through the pages and if you can figure out who the bad guy is you're better than me, as I got it totally wrong!

"I Will Make You Pay" was a bit of a predictable read for me. I definitely wanted to like it more than I did but I just found it a rather mediocre thriller.

I want to give this book less than three stars because I guessed the twist at the end SUPER early on. But I do think there was some good suspense in the middle and I loved the generally creepy tone, so I guess I can round up to three.

The main character, Alice, is being stalked by someone who decides to terrorize her every Wednesday. It starts with threatening phone calls and then quickly escalates. Alice's past comes out into the open once a private investigator gets involved. The best chapters were from the POV of a small boy who is left alone while his grandmother works every Wednesday night. It became evident to me that this was the man who was stalking Alice, and then the twists confirmed it. I liked these chapters because they had a little bit of added darkness and intrigue.

Some of this subject matter could have been a bit tricky, but Driscoll does handle it well. I just wish I hadn't figured out everything so soon after starting the book. The entire last third of the book made me so frustrated because of that! I definitely need to be challenged more by my thrillers than what this one provided.

This was a real edge of your seat thriller, with so many twists and turns, you wont know which way is up! Fantastic and gripping read!

A novel full of twists and turns. It actually kept me guessing - a novelty as I often guess the ending quite early on!

The book starts off like any good thriller movie, the main character gets a threatening phone call, and throughout the reader has to guess - is it him? or it is her? maybe the guy in the street? The suspense is continuously build, and keeps you entertained until the end when you finally realize who the person behind the call really was. Recommended for anyone who loves a good thrilling read.

I think I’m starting to realize that I’m extremely picky about my thrillers/mysteries. If I’m not buddy reading it with someone, it’s a lot harder for these genre books to grip me and thrill me, and unfortunately this book never quite got me. While I was still invested enough to finish the book, I had a hard time forcing myself to continue listening to the audiobook, even though it was a quick read and was narrated by narrators I generally enjoy.

I think the main reason I never fell into this book is that I never connected with Alice. I feel like connecting with the main character(s) of a thriller/mystery novel is extremely important, because otherwise you aren’t affected by the stakes of the novel. If you don’t care for the characters, you have no reason to cheer for them or be invested in the mystery. Sure, I didn’t want Alice to get hurt, but I was never extremely anxious for her safety until the very end when things really kicked up.

The mystery itself is also essential in books like this, and unfortunately, this never gripped me either. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat, desperate to know who was behind the Wednesday attacks. I think this was perhaps because there was just a bit too much going on, too many potential threads for this attacker to come from. There were too many men that could be willing to hurt Alice, and too many reasons for wanting to do so (without actually making Alice seem like a bad person, she just appeared extremely unlucky). It wasn’t quite overwhelming, but it still pushed me away all the same. It also didn’t help that the investigation was clearly focused around one individual, building up this background story that ended up not being entirely relevant/needed. This took a lot of page space away from other parts of the mystery, and I think it just didn’t feel cohesive in the end. While it’s probably more realistic in that way, as there’s always so many things going on in the life of a person, it didn’t feel like it was fully brought together in a way that a story like this needs.

Overall, this book wasn’t for me, even if I didn’t necessarily dislike my time spent reading it. It was a good audio companion while I was busy doing chores, traveling to school, or playing Pokemon Go, but I’m not excitedly reaching for another book by this author quite yet.
