The first sentence of I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll is a doozy! What a way to reach out and grab your reader's attention. Wow. As far as first sentences go, the impact, the questions it raises, WOW, in my top five, no wait higher, could it be my favorite?
It sets the tone of this thriller, kinda, this book may termed a slow burn. The threats come every Wednesday, so there is anticipation leading up to Wednesday, small relief that the threat has been identified, Thursday comes, a little more relief, but not too much, six days until it happens again. The fear increasing as Wednesday comes closer; you know the drill.
I Will Make You Pay is a quick read, it is hard to put down because you want the clues, who is doing this? why? I want to be careful about what I say because I don't want to give anything away. I will say this though, I am glad it was who it was (if that makes sense); I didn't like this character he felt off to me as did his circumstances. Things didn't make sense about him so like I said, glad it was him.
Alice did make some decisions about people and things that I wish she would have given a little more thought to, I guess that gave more situations to the story. I'm not victim shaming but rather pointing out that she talked herself into not allowing herself to feel afraid or allowing herself to be cautious. She would actively tell herself not to be "so paranoid" or tell herself " people with real problems were braver". The stuff we tell ourselves, we can be so unkind to ourselves. We don't give ourselves permission to feel what we feel. I think Ms. Driscoll really captured that so well in her writing. I would read other books by her.
Trigger warning: suggestions of pedophilia and self harm.

I will leave a review of this on Amazon or B&N on Oct 10, 2019
I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.
This was the first book I had read by Teresa Driscoll, having said that I wasn't really sure what to expect. From the blurb of the book it appeared that is would be a good book. Thrillers are normally one of my favorite genres, but having said that I found this book to be pretty slow moving as far as thrillers go. The book seemed to jump from place to place which didn't really work for me, I will say that I was surprised by the outcome and whom the stalker turned out to be. Some may enjoy this book, it just didn't pull me into the storyline like I like for books to do.

This is a gripping suspense novel that will glue you to the chair. Alice Henderson is a journalist, working for her struggling small local paper in Devon, and receives a frightening call, threatening to take a cheese slicer to her. It arrives on a Wednesday, and is followed by terrifying occurrences, every following Wednesday. She has no idea who this stalker is, but knows he is out for revenge.
Teresa Driscoll is a very skilled writer, with vivid descriptions, interesting complex characters, and the ability to spin a frightening tale. If you enjoy this genre, you’ll love this book. I was spellbound from start to finish.
I received this ARC for my honest review, and I loved it. My thanks to
#NetGalley #Thomas&Mercer #Amazon #TeresaDriscoll for the opportunity.

For the most part I enjoyed this book. I did have some trouble connecting with the characters at first so it was a slow start; but once the story really began I looked forward to picking up this book whenever I had the chance. This story is told from multiple perspectives and some were definitely more interesting than others. I was surprised by the ending but I felt that the author quickly wrapped up a few things and I would have liked additional details. All in all this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a suspense/thriller.
I received a preview copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

For most people Monday is the day they dread but for Alice it is Wednesday. It starts out as an ordinary Wednesday, until the phone rings. A mysterious caller with a chilling threat. Journalist Alice Henderson hangs up, ready to dismiss it as a hoax against the newspaper. But the next Wednesday, the stalker makes another move—and it becomes clear that this is all about Alice. Alice soon realizes this isnt the first of the threats.
Boyfriend Tom, feels as the cops aren't doing enough to protect Alice so he hires Matthew. A ex-cop turned personal detective. Matthews takes on the job of trying to help the police find who is stalking Alice while also trying to protect her on Wednesdays.
We get 3 separate view points here, which I very muched enjoyed as they all give you views of each person's thoughts emotions they are going through. Alice, Matthew and "HIM". We see the emotional destress Alice has to endure as each Wednesday nears closer. Torn away from her job As a journalist all she wants is to follow through on her story that shes been working on for awhile. About the demolition of a old building that residents have been trying to get torn down because of the horrible conditions . Thanks to Alice's persistence in her journalism councilmen have agreed and are building new homes for the residents. All while she is trying to be brave and figure out who is threatening her.
Then there is HIM with his hate for Wednesday and for Alice. But why does he hate Wednesday and Alice so much to torture her. What has Alice done to make him want to make her dread every Wednesday. Who is this person ruining her life and confidence. Is it a Ex, someone who she pissed of with a article in her paper?
A quick enjoyable read. That will have you puzzled. I had my suspicion of who "HIM" was but was quite surprised by the ending. Will leave you suspecting anyone and everyone. It is a knock you of your seat twist!!!
Thank you netgalley for a eARC of this book in trade for a honest review.

Alice is a reporter. She likes her co-workers. Jack is especially nice and he is always looking out for her. Then one day she gets a creepy call at her office. As she crosses the street to get a coffee to help her relax she finds that the same cteepy caller has already called her order in using her name. The strange happenings seen to happen on Wednesday's. Her fiance, Tom decided to hire a private investigator, Matthew to help as a guard on Wednesday's.
The strange events keep occurring. She is asked to leave work. To use up her accumulated time off until things are settled.
Alice's mother has COPD and her being able to spend more time with her is what keeps her going. The love this mother has for her two daughters is obvious.
Alice is very appreciative of all that Tom is doing trying to keep her safe.
She is so glad that she has so many people that care and are concerned for her. Unbeknownst to her, someone she trusts does not have her best interests in mind.
This is a story of trust, courage, betrayal and ultimately love.

A psychological thriller told via two POVS - the stalker and the victim. Both have secrets from their past and both have secrets to share. Well not share exactly but try to hide and then try to kill if all else fails.
There’s an award here for most inventive use of a cheese wire. Now there’s an image I wont’ get out of my head in a hurry. The story, though not the cheese slicer, was inspired by a phonecall to the author when she was herself a journalist. She received funny phonecalls which turned out to be nothing sinister, but she wondered what if…?
There’s a lot of wondering, red herrings and twisty spoilers and there’s a very heart-wrenching bit about mothers and daughters!
A good thriller

This book is a delightfully creepy mystery. Alice is a reporter for the local weekly newspaper. First she gets a threatening phone call, then an odd “gift”. Every Wednesday something even more intimidating occurs. Whoever this stalker is, he knows a lot about her personal life. The police aren’t much help. She even hires a PI, Matthew Hill, to help guard her.
The book moves quickly and the author maintains a good sense of tension. But Alice never quite gelled as a real person for me. We hear from her in the present day, but also the stalker from when he was a young child.
The ending did catch me off guard, as I never cottoned to whom the stalker was. But I also felt somewhat cheated. There’s a red herring or two and certain events are not adequately explained.
My thanks to netgalley and Amazon Publishing for an advance copy of this book.

I so enjoyed this. It's really well constructed and with some excellent characters that are so engaging. Firstly, there's Alice, a journalist who starts to receive threatening phone calls and always on a Wednesday, then things escalate.
Then there is Tom, her boyfriend, Leanne, her Sister, Mel the police woman assigned to the case and lastly, Matthew, a private investigator who takes the case.
All the above have a separate story to tell and I found the chapters flew and I couldn't wait to get to the end, whilst also enjoying the ride!
It's a real page turner about stalking and much more.
Definite 4*recommendation from me.
Thanks so much to NetGalley, the publishers and author for the opportunity to enjoy this really good read prior to publication, in exchange for this honest review.

It's going to be alright, my darling girl.
For me, a 5 star book should be fun to read, fast paced, not too confusing, majority of plot gaps filled by the end and most importantly, makes me stay up past my bedtime to finish the final chapters. This book ticked all of those boxes and more.
This book is SO well written. The author drops clues for the final reveal throughout the whole thing, as well as many a red herring, and I did not guess the end twist, but did have the OH YEAH OF COURSE moment that I just love.
The book kept me super engaged, I read the majority of it over a weekend and like I said, come Sunday night I was late to bed because I could not stop until I had finished it.
I'd say the thing that ties the characters all together is fear but theres also so much love. It's not overwhelmingly negative or scary because there's always this thread of love and courage running through it which made me care about the characters more than I typically would with this genre.
I really enjoyed. 5/5.

A true thriller with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I also felt there were the right amount of characters and suspense. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Fantastic thriller. Twists I never saw coming and kept me reading way past my bedtime. Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Amazing thriller... You won't see the end coming. Can you imagine it all started with a threatening phone call on a Wednesday then every Wednesday afterwards something new would happen. Always wondering what's next. Wondering who is behind it. What if it's someone you trust the most?!

On Wednesday morning, journalist Alice Henderson answers her work phone. A distorted voice threatens her, then hangs up. Alice is shaken, understandably. She tells her boss, and they take it semi seriously, making sure the higher ups at her paper know. But it's probably just a crank call. They didn't say her name, it was the main newspaper line.
Alice takes a short walk to clear her mind, going to the coffee shop next door. Where the owner is already putting the lid on her usual order, called in for her by "a friend".
Thus begins Alice's nightmare. Every Wednesday, something happens. Every Wednesday, the terror builds and builds. Why is this happening? When will it stop?
What will he do next?
This story starts strong. We get three perspectives - Alice, Matthew, the private investigator hired to find the stalker and protect her every Wednesday, and Him. Him, from before this ever began.
Unfortunately, this story desperately loses its way. There's the Obligatory Troubled Backstory, which is a fun twist when it's woven into the plot in a way that makes sense. Here, it's a lumpy bowl of oatmeal placed in the center of the dessert tray. Here, this definitely goes here.
No, it really doesn't. Oatmeal has its place, but clearly, it's not necessary in every meal.
Snip that out, and there are still issues. There's repetitiveness, and painfully clunky red herrings. The eventual whodunnit was a surprise to me, which is always nice, however by that point I had lost interest and barely registered the fun turn.
I just did a quick explanation of the entire story, complete with oatmeal, to my coworker. He agrees the premise sounds amazing, but the execution is so, so, so sadly lacking.

"I Will Make You Pay" is a true page-turner--I devoured it in one sitting! The author builds suspense with a judicious use of foreshadowing, and did a great job of telling the story from the viewpoints of different characters. This added a lot of depth to the story and made it more interesting than it otherwise would have been. I had not previously read any books by Teresa Driscoll, and definitely now plan to read her other novels!

Driscoll is a very talented writer of clever, well plotted, character driven stories and I Will Make You Pay was no exception. The story moved quickly and kept me on my toes with plenty of unexpected twists and turns!

A fantastic read. Gripping and lots of suspects. I trusted no one when reading this book and felt the fear of the journalist. Well written and sure to be a best seller.

Alice's terror begins with the first line when she picks up a threatening call at her desk. As a journalist she is used to getting strange calls , until the next Wednesday comes around and realization soon hits that she is being targeted. The horror plays out over the chapters alternating between Alice (before and present), Matthew Hill (the hired investigator) and him (the stalker). Unfolding the plot from different points of view led to interesting backstories and scattering of clues-this is where the author excelled. The perspective of the stalker intrigued me and I actually felt more sympathetic towards him then I did Alice (until he became a madman). Although well written the story didn't draw me in, there was never a time when I needed to start the next chapter. What started out strong and frightening soon fizzled. I did enjoy it and thank the publisher and net galley for the opportunity to read it.

"Every Wednesday, like clockwork, the terror returns."
Now that's a psychological thriller! Talk about having your life turned upside down from one threatening phone call... well, that's just what happened to Journalist Alice Henderson. "I Will Make You Pay" is a roller coaster thrill ride that is dark and twisted, so get ready for a gripping ride of your life.
I have read other books by Teresa Driscoll and have truly enjoyed them, and now I'm very pleased to say that this one is another great read. I'm definitely looking forward to her next book!
*Many thanks to NetGalley & Amazon Publishing UK for this ARC, all opinions are my own.

This reads fine. The pacing is fine. You are given good reason to believe the bad guy could be a couple of different people at different points in the novel. Everything's...fine. (Though the overall motivation for this sequence of events, once revealed, seems thin.)
