I think that I have read all of Catherine Ryan Hyde’s books. I encourage you to do the same. “Stay” is her latest novel. This book tells the story of Lucas, a young man who is dealing with difficult people and difficult relationships in his life. Like a lot of young teenagers, he is aching to do the “right thing” and yet, is surrounded by adults in his life not doing the right things. Lucas struggles but he learns that we have control over our own choices but not the choices of others. Even though we get to make our own choices, we don’t get to choose our consequences. There is an old saying, referenced in the book, that says an ill wind blows no good, if you look long enough, you can find a bit of good for someone even in an ill wind. There will be no trouble finding the good in this book.

Thanks to NetGallery, the publisher, and author, Catherine Ryan Hyde, for the opportunity to read and review “Stay” in exchange for my honest review.

Beautifully written book about the power of friendship and how one simple decision can have such far reaching consequences. Another cracking book from Catherine Ryan Hyde. She never disappoints.

I really enjoyed reading this book by Catherine Hyde. I have read numerous books by this author and I found this one to be one of my favorites. Strong characters, fast pace, good dialogue, characters change and grow with time. Lucas is a 15 year old boy with a best friend Conner. Lucas's parents are always bickering so to get peace and quiet he either goes to Conner's house or begins running in the woods near his home. One day he comes upon a cabin sheltered in the forest and makes friends with the two dogs living there. One day at the cabin he makes a dramatic discovery and saves the life of the woman living there who tried to commit suicide.
Lucas and the woman Zoe begin conversing one day and he founds out there is a mystery surrounding her which he wants to solve with the help of Conner.
There are some strong issues to explore in this book (Zoe's attempted suicide, Conner's issues, Lucas parents marriage) but they are explored carefully and things begin to look up for all the characters in the novel.

Interesting twist on flawed families. The story contains addiction issues, views on the war, how to forgive and go forward in your life, the art of having empathy for others and above all, the importance of family and friendship.
Written from 14 year old Lucas’s perspective. His mother and father fight constantly, his older brother is fighting in the Vietnam War, his best friend seems to be contemplating suicide, he discovers a love for running as he befriends 2 dogs that belong to a women’s living in the woods.
Many thanks to NetGallery, the publisher and author, Catherine Ryan Hyde, for the opportunity to read and review “Stay” in exchange for my honest review.

Catherine Ryan Hyde is one of my favorite writers. She seems more of an artist with some beautiful depth and colors in her paintings of characters.
You have to connect to characters and STAY had some touching, sweet people. All are fighting to STAY. Lucus is fourteen and carries everyone feelings and pain in his heart.
His story touches on coping with many issues. His friend Conner living with depression. His brother is in the war and comes home damaged. Zoe Dinsmore another person and friend which helps Lucus to learn one cannot hold all people's sorrows, grief, and addictions. One heart is too small for so much caring and trying to make everyone stay.
A brilliant book for adults and great lessons as always for Young adults. When you read Catherine Ryan Hyde books, you come away with more caring and the artist colors on the painting of life.
I just wanted to book to stay so much longer.
Thank you, NetGalley for the advance copy to review.

I received this book "Stay" from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed reading all about Lucas. The year is 1969 - lots of things going on at that time. Lucas is a worrier, he wants everything to turn out ok. We meet people who if not if Lucas, their life might have turned out differently. Although Lucas thought he didn't know anything about life, he was an honest and true friend who made things better for others. I enjoyed the 1969 section and would have liked a bit more of the part 2 when they were older.

All the Ryan books I’ve previously read have been suitable as YA books or adult fiction. This one most definitely belongs in the YA category as it has an abundance of advice, teaching and encouragement aimed at teens. It also showcases an abundance of common problems with parents as well as good ole teenaged angst.

Other than being overly simplistic, it was well written and well thought through - as all of hers are.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Catherine Ryan Hyde addresses the subject of depression and suicide which affects both children and adults, and weaves a wonderfully beautiful epic tale. You empathize with the three main characters, two who are children and see how they help each other and are devoted to each other throughout their lives. We come to understand how friendship and understanding soon evolves into a lifetime of special relationships. It is an absolutely a beautiful story. Ms. Hyde’s books are always page turners, impossible to put down, and leaves the reader wanting to both see what happens and for the book to never end. I recommend this author and especially this new novel most highly. It is 5 star!!

I have just begun to read Catherine's books. This is the third one. I love how
they are all so different, yet so good. This is the story of a couple of young
teenagers and how they get through life in the late '60s and early '70s. I love
going back to those days when I was a teen as well.
This is a really good book with some hard lessons to experience. I would
love to read this one again someday.

Thank you to NetGalley, Catherine Ryan Hyde and your Publisher for giving me the chance
to read this wonderful book!

Having read all of Catherine Ryan Hyde’s novel, I come to expect wonderful, well developed characters, lovable dogs, a feisty cat and frequently a horse. I just finished an ARC of Stay, and all were part of this beautiful story, except a horse.
As usual, a message is delivered in her stories and that was true here. A single choice can alter the direction of a life. In this case, that could be said of several of her interesting characters, but more so Lucas. The choices he made impacted his own life and those of his brother Roy, his friend Connor and Zoe, a local outcast.
This is a story of friendships, struggle, difficult decisions and complicated relationships. It’s also about the love and bonds that animals bring us, with their ability to comfort when we’re sad or lonely. Lucas is young, but wise beyond his years, carrying burdens, very heavy for a young teen. His path was certainly affected by the choices that he and the others made.
This novel is beautifully written, just what we have come to expect from Catherine Ryan Hyde. I loved it! Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC.

This book focuses on Lucas, who is 14 years old. His older brother is fighting in the Vietnam war, his friend Conner is withdrawing more each day, he befriends a woman who lives in the woods, he finds a passion in running. This book is an interesting perspective from the young man's view on the war, addiction, grief, forgiveness, and many other events. A good read.
