Brief synopsis from the book cover:

Can you trust your memories?

When Laura Murphy returns home ten years after the death of her childhood sweetheart Ryan Taylor, her past begins to unravel and memories she’d long pushed aside begin to surface.

Having trouble reconciling truth and memory, Laura reconnects with her friend Tom to try and find closure, but Tom has issues of his own. Not only is he faced with the threat of losing his farm, but he is also hiding a secret that could change everything for them both.

Will Laura and Tom find the answers they need to move forward, or will they discover that memories can’t always be trusted?

Review:

This book explores how trauma effects are memory, the fact that what we remember isn’t always what really happened. Sometimes we choose to forget details in order to protect ourselves. This is what Laura is confronted with when she returns home after leaving it 10 years before following a tragic loss. It’s not only Laura but also her old school friends Tom and Rachel who still bear the scars of this event that happened all those years ago. The book also deals with the effects of depression on young people.

The book is nicely written and the story flows well. The characters are well developed and described in detail which made them realistic.

Overall this is a interesting story, very captivating so it’s hard to put down once you start.

I received an ARC through NetGalley at no cost to me.

A compelling account of life, and how our lives can change in an instant.

All the characters were well written, complex and real. The reasons for their behavior were detailed and percise. Its true our mind works in weird ways and is always trying to protect itself, and this book deals with how the things we hide may actually be more important then those we forget.

I liked the closure at the end of the book and that the characters have to still keep living with the pain they have been through and move forward at the same time.

Again we see the ugly head of mentall illness and the toll it takes, while also accepting that the way we deal with our problems now has changed for the better.

A wonderful read, definitely recommended.

Wow, what an amazing story. The author took a mystery of how Ryan died one night and three of his friends who each thought they were the last to see Ryan alive. They each ran away in some form, haunted by their memories of that night. Then the author shows us how a memory can be real, exactly as it happened but it could have been such a traumatic experience that the brain changed the memory into something that you could handle and you believe that is how it happened. The book made me pause and really think about what she was writing. Think about the characters, the situation and this really is a puzzle and they are putting the pieces together. like a puzzle, everything has to fit together just right and that is where the author took me. Putting their lives back together but you will have to read the book to see if all the pieces fit together. It is a really good book. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review. It was a subject I hadn't given much thought to but while reading the book and even after finishing it, I am thinking about memories and I love books that make me question something or want to learn more about the subject and then think this really could happen.

I did not finish this book, so I guess I am unable to give a full and complete review. I did not enjoy the parts that I did read. The characters were not well rounded, nor was the plot. I did not get drawn into the story.

I was given an advanced copy to read for an honest review.

This is the story of Laura, who experienced a significant loss which led to her leaving her home town for 10 years. It is her moms health that finally brings her home. Following her moms death Laura comes across newspaper clippings which drives her to remember the worst night of her life. Will Laura ever know what happened to Ryan? Will Laura be able to forgive her high school friends and the pain they caused each other? What will Laura do next?

It is a good story, written well and kept your interest to find out what happens next.

Oh yeah The Memories We Hide going to come out around this month if I'm not mistaken so don't forget to check it out ya!

Goshhh I don't know what to say! I couldn't stop reading and I keep wondering what going to happen next.

Ryan's death hit them pretty bad. Not only Laura but Tom and Rachel felt the same way. What happened between them are freaking dark. What Rachel and Ryan did to Laura pissed me off. But I felt sorry for Ryan but I hate him at tje same time. Urghhh mix feelings! I hate this! I cried reading this book (kinda sensitive right now)

** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review **
