The final book in these series brings everything to a close. Kincaid and Ash find their way back to each other. Best friends that lost touch after the tragic event that shook them to their cores. This story was a great way to end this series that has had such an impact on me. These 4 friends and the men who love them. Hearing their stories and watching them triumph over tragedy. This was such an unusual plot to build a romance story around, but I loved it. Great series!

This book by Roni Loren is captivating and intense. Has bee a while since I read her, but this is a must read for book lovers!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. I couldn’t wait to read more of this series especially this book. This book like the previous books in the series was such an emotional read. My heart went out for these characters especially during the heart wrenching moments throughout this book. They weren’t perfect but for me it made them more real and relatable. But my only problem with this book was the pace of the story. Maybe it was just me or maybe my expectations for this final book were too high. Overall I still enjoyed parts of this book.

Admittedly I LOVED the first book in this series but struggled and DNF the second and third. I had hopes I would enjoy this final book more than I did, but I think it was too heavy for me when I tried to read it. Lots of content warnings for this series, but if you’re in the right mood it’s very well written. DNF for now at 32%

This series tugs on your heart in all the best ways! This book in particular was impossible to put down!

I’d loved this whole series but, for some reason, I just didn’t get to this book on its release. I think it was partially because it was a friends to lovers plot which is one of my least favourite romance tropes. I will say this is one of the best written ones I’ve read. I always hate the unrequited love which happens on one side with these plots but I think it was written well here.

Ash and Kincaid were easy to fall for. I mean, Kincaid was a force of nature all through this series and she had me liking her throughout so I knew she deserved her HEA but Ash? Ash I was uncertain of at first but after seeing how he loved Kincaid in the past and the present I knew he was the one for Kincaid. He never thought her too much and wanted her to change. He loved her as she was and didn’t understand how anyone else didn’t see it.

I did predict a couple of plot points, they were glaringly obvious to me. Hopefully they were meant to be and it was meant to show Ash’s love was easy to see and it just needed Kincaid to actually see him. I don’t mind though since romances don’t really need plot twists.

As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read and review one of your titles. Unfortunately, this title didn’t work for me and I have chosen not to review it.

Please also let me extend my apologies for this being so incredibly late (as I am guessing it’s more than obvious I didn’t review at this point) as I like to hold negative or DNF reviews until a title is no longer available on NetGalley, and sometimes posting once it has been archived slips my mind.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

A fantastic round up of this series that looks at life after surviving a school shooting. KC is our average happy go lucky girl who has kept the faith or all her friends and harboured a secret crush on an old friend. I loved how the romance developed and their story of the shooting came out. I also enjoyed the snippets of previous characters to add to their stories as well.

I wish I had read this one prior to the pandemic! I loved the first book in the series when I read it in 2019, however since the pandemic started I've really struggled with overly emotional romances with difficult topics. I DNF the previous book and I don't think I'll be ready to finish this one anytime soon. The flashback scenes are really challenging for me to read, but I love Roni Loren's writing style. I will be shelving this one for now and moving onto her other series. DNF

THE ONE FOR YOU is the fourth and final book in the The Ones Who Got Away series. I’ve been anxiously anticipating this book because I’ve loved Kincaid’s character from the very beginning. This series follows a group of 4 women who are survivors of a school shooting and how that has affected their lives now many years later.

Kincaid lost her boyfriend during the shooting, the man she thought was The One. And she’s had a string of failed relationships since then because she doesn’t think that love will come twice for her. Ash was her childhood best friend. He was with her through the roughest times back then and was her only source of comfort. But after they both survived the shooting he left town to pursue his writing career and see the world. He comes back to town to finish writing a novel after breaking up with his fiance and has to face his feelings for Kincaid that he’s been hiding since they were kids.

There was something really sweet and endearing about this particular book. It was maybe less emotional and intense than some of the previous books but it still had a lot of heart. Ms. Loren has a way of crafting characters that you can’t help but open up your heart to. Ash and Kincaid were no different. I was rooting for them through this whole book. From Ash being the bookish hero with a side of extra spicy, and Kincaid who has a tough exterior but a vulnerable, mushy interior. The fact that they were best friends for most of their lives made this book endearing and their connection that much stronger.

If you haven’t read this series yet, you could read this book as a standalone. But why would you want to do that? This series is so unique and captivating and dealing with a very current and tough subject in a great way. Roni Loren is one of my all time favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what is coming next from her.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

DNF at 17%. This is a series that I think would work best for people who like their romance with a lot of angst. I’ve realized for me that isn’t really working. Knowing this one has a lot of flashbacks to the school shooting coming up and a lot for both Ash and Kincaid to work through - I’m going to stop here. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Another straight-up romance to round out this series. It had its plodding and slow moments, what with the angst of old secrets and Kincaid's hero-worship of her (let's face it, douche-y) dead boyfriend, whom she thought was her soul-mate, but the overall story worked.

I appreciated the long-term friendship angle between Kincaid and Ash. They weren't just two strangers meeting for the first time, acting on the attraction between them, they weren't high-school sweethearts separated by time and space...They were friends, first and foremost. They knew each other, they knew each other's secrets (well, mostly) and history, they had common history...The only things keeping them apart back then and now were their individual issues, hang-ups and ghosts.

And those issues, hang-ups and ghosts almost split them up for good, until they finally decided to fight for what they wanted, what they never knew they really wanted or needed.

While the first three books featured female friendship, four survivors striking an (unlikely) friendship, this last book toned down the four girlfriends, sidelining the other three, relegating them to picking-up-the-pieces duty, it still focused on friendship. An enduring friendship, spanning years and hardhip, proving once more that good love stories flourish on solid foundations.

Well-written, with a great cast of characters...A great ending to a wonderful series.

An emotional conclusion to an emotional series! Roni Loren pulled me in with the first book and kept delivering. I can not wait to read what she writes next.

I know this series is recommended all the time, but I felt like I had to push through the books and never really connected with the characters.

CW/TW: domestic abuse mentions, PTSD

I have to admit, I had trouble getting into this book back when I first got it. But it's Roni Loren, so I wasn't ready to give up and instead, I put this book on hold, until yesterday.

And I'm glad I held off and didn't force it, because this book was as amazing as the previous ones. I love Kincaid and Ashton both individually and together. I'm not usually partial to the friends-to-lovers trope; I usually enjoy a little antagonism with my romance; but their relationship was just chef's kiss for me. Boy do I want an Ashton for myself.

Also colour me horny but whenever Ash took off his glasses before getting down to business, I fanned myself. Putting this out there for everyone to see.

SO! I believe I've read every single Roni book now. When's her new book coming out again?

This was a heartwarming book for second chance love. The storyline was were great and I couldn't help but love the characters. Can't wait to read the rest of the series

I love this series. This series is so emotional and I was happy to be along for the ride as these four friends find happiness after tragedy. And while this may not have been my favorite story in the series, Kincaid is my favorite of the ladies. I enjoyed the nerdy author male lead.

Another great one by Roni Loren, and a great conclusion to this series. I always appreciate how Loren can write a romance with lots of tension, but where the adults consistently make good, realistic decisions. There are no "convenient" plot twists or scenarios that only happen in fiction. This one is no different; two best friends from childhood have lost touch in the wake of a terrible tragedy, and reconnect years later. The chemistry is great, the plot moves along naturally, and the overall message is meaningful but not heavy-handed. The supporting characters from previous books in the series are great, but don't pull focus from the main characters. I will be recommending this one to anyone who isn't convinced about the romance genre.
