This was the final book in a wonderful quartet by Roni Loren. I loved it. I loved the whole series. This book takes a tragic backstory but focuses on healing and hope, and the actual people that emerge through tragedy. If you're looking for tragedy porn, you aren't going to find it here. Roni never actually delves into a play-by-play of the shooting that is the basis for this series. It may have given context for what these characters go through, but it's not the point of the book.

Now, I do think that survivors of such tragedies may still be triggered, as there are some scenes that depict parts of what happened. However, Roni doesn't focus on that. She focuses mostly on the relationships and inner lives of what her characters go through and how they overcome difficulty, guilt, sadness, and brokenness.

I haven't really explained much about the plot, but I don't know if I need to? This book takes some established tropes such as friends-to-lovers, second chance romance, and found family. There's also some adorable goats and renovating a gigantic abandoned house into a b&b. It hits a lot of small town romance hits with heart. Also heat. If you've read Roni before, you know she brings it. Highly recommend all four books in a heart-warming binge. Bring the tissues!

The One for You by Roni Loren is a beautifully written, heartfelt romance and I really enjoyed it.

The storyline kept me turning the pages, my interest was held from start to end and watching the relationship between Ash and Kincaid brought out all the feels.

THE ONE FOR YOU caps a series that navigates the aftermath of a school shooting with grace, sensitivity and hope.

Fourteen years ago, a group of friends survived a prom night school shooting and vowed to make the most of their lives.

In high school, Kincaid and Ash were each other’s port in the storm. He came from a home where domestic abuse was a regular occurrence, she dealt with the fallout of her mom being regarded the town hussy. But they were just buddies, well, that’s what Kincaid thought anyway. Then the shooting happened.

Now, Ash is a thriller writer, and he’s back in town 14 years after the shooting to focus on his next book. Being thrown back together rekindles old feelings, and for the first time Kincaid notices that the years have done her bookish friend some good. Man, Roni Loren knows how to write a hot nerd. This is the “my high school friend got hot” trope done deliciously. In true Roni Loren fashion, it is sexy and romantic and gah, it’s a must read.

The book flips between flashbacks to their high school relationship and current day in Long Acre. As a result, content warning, The One For You has the most visceral experience of the shooting itself.

The core support network among Liv, Rebecca, Tasha and Kincaid is a cornerstone of this series and it shines in The One For You. These women have turned tragedy into rock solid friendships that will last them the rest of their lives.

It’s a reminder HEAs don’t just come from romantic relationships, it also lives in the people who’ve got your back and support you through thick and thin.

The One For You is the fourth and last installment in the series The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren. Although all the books are standalone, they're best enjoyed in order. Let me start by saying that I have read all the books in the series and all are engrossing reads. That might not sound sexy enough for a romance novel, but when you read as much as I do, the storytelling needs to be superb for me not to lose interest. There are only so many sex scenes without substance you can read before you lose interest and start to wonder if some people out there are really writing porn. Which, hey, no judgment, but don't call it a romance!

Kincaid and Ash's story was both heartwarming and heartbreaking, a delicate balance to achieve and that can backfire spectacularly if the author doesn't know what they're doing. Not to worry, though...we're in Ms. Loren's very talented hands.

Their past history and Kincaid's obliviousness about Ash's feelings was a torture of the best kind. Watching them find their way to each other was a dream come true. This book is close to my heart because I love a bookish, well-read hero! Ash has moved up to my top ten book boyfriends. Who am I kidding, he sky-rocketed to the number one spot!

Leaving our beloved friend cheerleader's story to the end was the perfect wrapup for this series. I am not going to lie, after reading all four books, I have to say this is my favorite. And that was a hard decision because picking a favorite book out of a favorite series is like picking your favorite student: you know you have one, but should you really own up to it? This book has everything: A compelling story, riveting storytelling, steam enough to make you turn on your fan in the middle of winter, and a perfect wrapup to what I consider one of my favorite romance series of all time. I cannot recommend this series enough. I think everyone can enjoy and learn something about humans' resiliency from these books.

If you would've told me two years ago that a romance series featuring the survivors of a school shooting would become one of those life-changing books, I would've probably told you where to go in at least two different languages. It is a credit to Ms. Loren's massive talent, how she was able to create a book micro-universe in which PTSD sufferers find community, love, and support. The portrayal of this disorder is heartbreakingly accurate in these four books. I wish people battling this incredibly difficult illness in real life would find all these wonderful things. Thank you, Ms. Loren, for creating positive portrayals of people dealing with this disease. So often we see negative portrayals in books, TV-series and movies and that creates significant damage and misunderstandings, sometimes, even fear. Representation is important and breaking the stigma around mental illness is even more important.

What a great ending to this series! It is definitely in my top 10 favorites. The writing was excellent and the storyline was so so good. I loved how the author took just a delicate subject, but kept humor throughout the book as well. The characters were all so likeable, it was so easy to get sucked into this series. The only thing I didn’t like was that I had to wait over a year to get all 4 books!!

Honestly I can’t say enough good things about this book, I absolutely loved Ash. And the switch from last to present was a great addition to this book. Sometimes I just don’t like the switching back and forth, but this worked perfectly with The One for You. And Kincaid was such a fun character to follow, she had quirks you just loved and a vulnerability that made me like her even more.

I would highly recommend this book and even the whole series! I can’t wait to pick up another Roni Loren book!!

While Roni Loren is known for her erotic fiction, her best books are those in the Ones Who Got Away series. The individuality of her characters as well as the diverse storylines have me hooked.

In “The One for You,” the fourth (and final book?) of “The Ones Who Got Away,” author Roni Loren brings everyone back to Long Acre.

Of course, Kincaid Brelin never left. She chose to make her life in her hometown after the tragic school shooting at Long Acre High. But her childhood best friend and classmate Ashton Isaacs took a different route. He left after high school to lead the life of a rolling stone as he lived in Europe and all over the US but never in their hometown.

Perhaps it is fate or actually just a circumstance, Ashton found himself in a dire situation. Having gained some fame as a writer, his next book was due soon – his editor and the publishing house were waiting for the first draft to be submitted.

Ash needed a quiet place to stay to write. So, when the parents of an old classmate offered a studio apartment free of charge, he accepted. The only drawback, the apartment was in Long Acre!

To Ash, his hometown held bittersweet memories. On top of the list was the high school shooting which changed the course of his life. There were also his estranged parents. And of course, there was Kincaid – his first love. He was never able to tell her because she was in love with another.

A decade had passed, and he was back. Kincaid was also back in his life. Still, between his current messy life and the baggage from 10 years ago, he found himself tongue-tied once again. He could not tell Kincaid that he still cared.

Because if he did, he would also have to tell her the truth on what really happened on that fateful night. Kincaid’s heart will be broken all over again and Ash would be the one to put it back together because Kincaid could not do it on her own this time around.

Once again, Roni Loren told a beautiful story that not just tugged at your heartstrings but a full-on tearjerker. For those who had read the first three books, we already knew what happened. Yet, the secret that Ash had kept was a bombshell. So, we cry once again for the loss of their innocence and these high school kids growing up overnight.

I am presuming that “The One for You” is the last book in the series. I don’t want to say that Roni Loren saved the best for last because all four books touched my heart. But this one reminded me of one of Guy du Maupassant’s short stories about true love.

No, “The One For You” is not a derivative of that one by Guy du Maupassant. The common thread is the asking the question, “How do you define true love?” Without actually saying it, both Loren and du Maupassant asked it. Arriving to the answer was what was heartbreaking.

A great read! “The One For You” should be one of your first reads for 2020. Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance strongly advised due to references to school shooting.

REVIEW:
(Friends to lovers done right!)

First I’ll say, this series is amazing. Loved meeting the characters and getting to know their personalities throughout (all) their ups and downs. Hurts. Despair. Also, I started this series haven’t read a single book from this author. Safe to say I’m a new fan and will definitely read more from her in the future.

That said, on to the story….

We meet Kincaid and Ash; the perfect couple to seal this final installment. Truths about their pasts are revealed; devastation that rocked both their worlds. In a sense, they relive their open wounds all over again and try to navigate back to common ground. Or at least a safe place. Not hard to do when they’re each other’s safe place. Both overcoming obstacles that have rocked their core--they’re easily the couple you love. The coupling you root for. They made sense and wasn’t too far-fetched to seem real. They felt...real. And I didn’t want their story to end. Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a copy. You won’t regret it!

Guess what, readers? Roni Loren release another book in The Ones Who Got Away series. And it is Kincaid story!

School shooting is never easy to read or write about but Roni Loren has managed it in The Ones Who Got Away. Each of her survivors get their own stories but it is definitely an emotional read so be fully prepared.

Kincaid has faced so much that it is definitely shocking when she see Ashton again. There is so much history between those two that there is going to be a long journey. It's going to be full of angst and high emotions that it's going to be a heck of read.

I won't spoil anything for you but I definitely recommend that you take look into The Ones Who Got Away series because it will keep you the edge of your seat.

Four Stars!

"The One For You" was very emotional, a little angsty, with some humor, some sexy scenes, a sweet and sexy romance, and a good end to the series. I did wish that Ash and Kincaid did a better job of talking to each other and working out their concerns. I'm not a fan of Big Misunderstandings. I did really like that Loren acknowledged and respected friendship and the love friends have for each other as well as focusing on romantic love.

This was by far my favorite in the series. After surviving the unimaginable Kincaid Breslin makes a promise to live life to the fullest. Yet she's still wary of taking the next steps in a relationship. And sometimes her desire to live life has her making impulsive decisions, hence purchasing a farmhouse in dire need of repairs. When the unexpected happens she decides to barrel through.
Ashton Isaacs is the quintessential book worm with some super sexy tattoos though in for good measure. As a writer he wanders where the story takes him and the last place he was prepared to end up is Long Acre, his homework. He left after tragedy struck and only returns for brief visits. Now he's back writing his next book and is forced to deal with the demons from his past. And Kincaid his former best friend is his biggest weakness.

Forteen years ago on Prom night Kincade had lost the love of her life in a mass shooting by two other students. But she not pn;y ;pst her soulmate Graham but also her best friend Ash shortly after. As soon as he could he up and left town. Leaving Kincaid abandoned and alone. Graham had been Ash’s best friend. Ash had loved Kincade all his life but she went out with Graham. She fell for Graham.Ash has a secret that he had to keep inside all these years and know it could really hret Kincade if she found out. Ash left as soon as he could after the shooting he ended up in NYC and followed his dream and became a successful writer. But now he is back to focus on his next book. Kincade went around with a smile on her face acting like everything is fine but inside she is barely keeping herself together. At that time Kincade had not only lost her soulmate but shortly after her best friend was gone leaving her feeling abandoned and alone. Ash and Kincade had always leaned on each other when things got too hard to deal with. He never let Kincaid know his true feelings for her. Kincade doesn’t do relationships since Graham died. Why try? Kincaid walked around with a smile on her face acting like everything was fine but inside she was barely keeping it together. Than Ash and Kincaid are thrown together when they are on a project together which was selling the old book store. Ash finds all those old feelings for Kincaid come back and Kincade finds herself attracted to this new version of Ash.
I really liked this book. There were some things I didn't care for in this book But i did get into this book and didn’t want to put it down. But I did feel this could have been shorter. I also didn’t like so many flashbacks. Ash and Kincaid did have hot chemistry as adults. Such a sad reality these school shootings. Ash was a great guy who had a deeply buried secret. It was hard for me to believe that Kincade couldn’t see at least some of Ash’s feelings for her. They were supposed to be lifelong best friends. I liked that Kincade and Ash weren’t perfect people but people who had made terrible mistakes all long the way. I laughed at times while reading this and other times choked up. I really liked the plot and pace. This book had: a school shooting, violence, death, secret feelings, domestic violence, drug use, neglect, abuse, two best friends, an unrequited love and so much more. I advise use to read this series in order for a smoother more knowledgeable read. I love the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend this book.

The highly-anticipated fourth book in Roni Loren's unforgettable The Ones Who Got Away series.

Sassy Kincaid Breslin finally gets her happy ending…
Kincaid Breslin was the girl who was supposed to die first in the horror movie. In high school, it had been a running joke among her friends during their annual Halloween marathon of scary movies that she'd be the first character to run, screaming for her life.

She was the dance team captain. The girl with the superstar boyfriend. The non-virgin.

But when Kincaid's life had turned into an actual horror movie, she'd somehow managed to get out alive. Most of those friends hadn't. Real life horror didn't follow movie rules.

My Thoughts

When I was lucky enough to stumble across 1st book, and only other one have read in the series, my interest was peaked so grabbed the digital galley and devoured it.

Again when lucky enough to be able to download this 4th book there was no hesitation this time as found a set of characters to keep me completely engrossed and wanted to see where the series had taken them.

Especially as this seems to be the last book in the series.

While missing out on books 2 and 3 I feel fine with that fact and am very happy to have caught up with Liv Arias, Rebecca Lindt and Taryn Landry in this story featuring Ash Isaacs with Kincaid Breslin as the leading characters.

Falling in love is something that both Ash and Kincaid find hard as in their teens these two found ”The One” who made them feel ”completely whole”, although unfortunately these were not relationships that ever lasted into their time out of high school.

For Kincaid the her grief over the boy she lost as her ”soul mate” was all encompassing, and still is 14 years later.

Having then, in almost the same breathe, lost her best friend when Ash left Lone Acre Kincaid felt adrift for years until reuniting with other surviving former classmates Liv and Rebecca and Taryn.

As she has learned in those intervening years Kincaid is prone to impetuous and even rash acts driven by her emotions.

However when given a second chance to reconnect with Ash, once and for all put the past in the past, and start the best chapter of her life that seems to be a little less easy to do as she is first inclined.

The story is all about putting things into their proper perspective, getting and taking second chances, actually being able to fall in love without reservation and building a future that is not only positive but gives tribute to those lost in the mass shooting tragedy that Lone Acre High has long been notorious for.

For me this book took tragedy and gave it's survivors triumph as they have finally come full circle in the small town called Lone Acre Texas.

The One For You
The Ones Who Got Away series book 4

What a way for a series to end. With a bang that filled my heart. I love this friends to lovers story. I love that there’s so much history between Kincaid and Ash. The whole unrequited love as teenagers broke my heart for Ash. I seriously wanted to hug this guy throughout the entire book.

This series has been rough in that it covers a tragic, all too real problem in the United States...mass shootings in schools. The characters have this shared trauma that has shaped them in so many ways. It was difficult to read sometimes, but the subject matter was handled sensitively and with respect. Bravo for that Ms. Loren. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her to write.

This book, like the rest of the series, is very character driven. I cared about them deeply from almost the beginning. The growth that both Kincaid and Ash go through was amazing. They may be adults, and years removed from the tragedy of the school shooting as teens, but it’s always there in the background. I liked seeing the progression of them going from carrying around the hurt on their shoulders, to wanting to grab onto their happiness. They learned to embrace the life they’re blessed with when so many of their friends never got that chance.

There’s a ton of heavy stuff in this book, but there were still moments that made me laugh. Quite a few, actually! There’s a pair of trouble making goats that had me giggling, and the banter between Kincaid and Ash never failed to put a smile on my face. Oh! And the manure in the pick up truck! So funny!

While this book, and series, is by no means as steamy as some of Roni Loren’s other books, there was still a ton of chemistry and sexy times. And Ash is crazy delicious in the bedroom!

This series was amazing. It pulled all the feels out of me. My heart was broken and mended. Roni Loren continues to be an auto read author for me.

This is the fourth and final book in this series and I really liked it. A second chance romance between childhood best friends is almost always going to work for me. Especially if there is a scene where as teenagers they share a bed in a non-sexual way and they feel like they are each others comforts. This makes me swoony. I liked seeing Kincaid and Ashton rediscover each other as friends and then lovers.

A few things of note about this story. There is a fairly detailed memory scene of them at the prom when the shooting happened. This may be very upsetting for readers. I don’t recall the other books being this detailed, but it might be that I have forgotten it.

Content Warning for neglectful parents and domestic abuse/intimate partner violence- secondary characters.

Also there is some lying between the characters. One of my friends pointed it out when we were discussing this book. It did not bother me, but if you have issues with a partner that lies/keeps things from the other, you may not enjoy this.

When I started reading the ‘The Ones Who Got Away’ Series in January of 2018 I was immediately hooked and loved everything about this series. So with every book that came out, I began loving Roni Loren’s writing more and more and I simple couldn’t get enough of this series and the characters. So when I saw that the fourth book in the series ‘The One For You’ was coming out I couldn’t resist and requested a review copy. And luckily for me I got it!

In ‘The One For You’ we meet Kincaid Breslin. Kincaid is the girl who always does everything for her friends and family. Including being a little matchmaker. And now her best friends all have a great guy, she is faced with remembering the two guys she loved and lost all those years ago. But when one of those guys, her best friend Ashton comes back to the town they grew up in, Kincaid is both shocked and excited to see him again.

Just as with the previous books in this series, ‘The One For You’ easily grabbed my attention and kept me hooked from the first to the very last page. I just loved reading about Kincaid. Kincaid was this fun, sweet and flirty girl who thought she wasn’t made for love. Just hook-ups without any complications. Her character is so different than me, that I was fascinated by her actions and thoughts. I loved getting to know her.

But my definite favorite character was Ashton. I mean WOW!! A handsome guy, who is a writer, a reader and kind of a loner?! Yep, I liked him and was rooting for him from the beginning of this story until the very end. He was just a character I would love in real-life too. And I definitely became his number one fan. LOL!

Throughout this book there were several flashbacks to years ago when tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School, a.k.a. Kincaid and Ashton’s senior year. And although those flashbacks made me sad, it fitted the story and was done in a great way.

Yes, ‘The One For You’ was a romantic, fun and emotional read that definitely gave me all the feelings! I simple loved it and would recommend it to every romance reader out there.

I've read 2 of the books in this series and enjoyed both of them, and was anxious to read Kincaid's story from the moment we met her. This series deals with characters who've had to cope with a school shooting and it's done in a very compassionate way. This was another intense, emotional read for me, but a very enjoyable one too. Very unique storyline and a plot that is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I can’t even stress enough how much I ADORE this series.

Plot overview: Old friends (and high-school shooting survivors) Kincaid and Ashton reconnect after years apart. But Ash has a few secrets that could change things with Kincaid forever.

So, first of all, while this book can be read as a standalone, I HIGHLY recommend that you read the other books in the series first so that you can really get a feel for what these characters have gone through and how much they’ve grown emotionally.

Kincaid is a GREAT heroine. She’s a little messed up from having lost her high school boyfriend, who she considered the love of her life, during the shooting, but it hasn’t held her back from living a great life. Sure, she has some trouble opening herself up to the possibility of a new love, but she also doesn’t sit around wallowing in despair and self-pity. She’s a true survivor, and as a romance heroine, she’s really inspiring.

Ash is a PHENOMENAL hero. He’s grumpy and a little anti-social (two of my all-time favorite romance hero qualities), and he’s hopelessly in love with Kincaid. If you’re a fan of unrequited love (and hey, who isn’t?) Ash will positively break your heart. And to make matters more complicated for him, he’s been holding on to some secrets about the “love” of Kincaid’s life that could change everything for both of them. He’s kept the secrets to himself because while spilling them could make his life better, it’d hurt Kincaid, and he can’t bring himself to do that. Dreamy sigh. I adored him.

The female friendships depicted in this series are nothing short of perfection. The women here are supportive and smart and successful. And each book passes the Bechdel test, which isn’t as easy to find in Romancelandia as you might think.

For anyone worried that reading about school shooting survivors would be depressing, don’t let that stop you from reading this series. It’s a highly emotional topic, but the focus of these books is on the survivors. They’re not victims; they’re survivors. You’ll just have to trust me when I say it’s an inspiring series, not a depressing one.

Honestly, I have no idea why you’re still reading this review. Buy the book! You won’t regret it.

This is my first book to read by Roni Loren and will not be my last. This story is simply amazing and has all the emotions one person can handle. My heart is full and tired from the exercise it received reading this one. There was love, friendship, grief, betrayal, hope, devastation, loneliness, doubt, etc. I adored both Kincaid and Ashton in this story. Their emotions came to life off these pages. I could totally feel what they felt. And to have your best friend, the one person who is your safe place leave, wow, and then come back. Their friendship was beautiful and literally brought tears to my eyes as I read. You just want to grab both of them and say, "Hey, you guys belong together. Open your eyes! You are perfect and it is so hard to find that special someone. Be that for each other!" I have such strong feelings with this book. It left such an impact on me. Beautiful!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

Omg, you saved the best for last! I adored Kincaid! Don't we all want a friend like her? She's a survivor of a horrible tragedy where she lost not only her boyfriend, but also her relationship with Ashton, her bestfriend. Kincaid doesn't know that Ashton has been in love with her since they were teenagers. When life throws these two together again, all bets are off. Their bantering back and forth is so fun, and made me laugh out loud, especially Kincaids retelling of a previous hookup. Hysterical! This is a very sweet, yet heartbreaking story that was worth the wait!
