Ash got most of my sympathies here. I felt his pain in my bones. I had a little trouble warming up to Kincaid. But as I kept reading, I started to understand her a bit more. She desperately did not want to be like her mother, wanted to have that "picture perfect" family. I will admit to being mad at her when she couldn't see what was right in front of her face the whole time. But she couldn't see beyond what she thought she wanted. This was a heart wrenching conclusion the a fantastic series.

Roni Loren’s emotional friends to lovers to enemies-ish to lovers story The One for You has what will be catnip for a lot of romance lovers: a second chance story featuring two former best friends, both of whom were resilient against great challenges even before the famous high school shooting the night of their prom that brought everything tumbling down. It’s a story of reclaiming dreams and being brave and finding home and happiness in someone else, too.

After growing up with nothing, Kincaid Breslin has made a successful life for herself as a real estate agent. But it only takes one viewing of a huge, in-need-of-renovation home to fall in love, and before she knows it she’s put an offer in on a place she can’t quite afford so that she can open a bed and breakfast.

That’s still not the riskiest thing she does in this book. That would be having sex with Ashton Isaacs, former childhood and adolescent best friend who left town suddenly following the school shooting that took the lives of many, including Kincaid’s beloved high school boyfriend Graham, and the one night she and Ashton shared together. Now Ashton’s back in town and looking better than ever.

Unbeknownst to Kincaid, Ashton’s taking his own huge risk. He’s had feelings for Kincaid since high school and she broke his heart. Is there any way that they can be together now, outside of the shadow of their past and their shared memories of what she and Graham were? And is it possible for them to make a life together in a town that’s seen so much heartbreak and disappointment for them both?

Loren effectively inserts backstories throughout the book to show how Kincaid and Ashton have always cared about each other—in some cases, were the only ones really caring about each other. For so many years, Ashton was the only one truly accepting of Kincaid, and I love how he doesn’t judge her for the choices she’s made and makes and doesn’t try to police her behavior. His acceptance is juxtaposed against Graham’s lack of, which is something that the reader likely notices long before our heroine does.

When the HEA comes, it’s hard-won and much-deserved, partially because we’ve seen how long it’s taken them to get there.

The One for You is a searing, sensitive read with a satisfying ending and characters to root for.

Unfortunately Ash and Kincaid had to grow up and apart to get a second chance. A second chance at friendship and so much more.
I did skim some parts. A lot of their past was in the book. I'm not a fan of that, but it didn't bring the book down for me.

In an absolutely charming tale Ashton has loved Kincaid since they were ‘BFFs’ in middle school but he never tells her. Instead he steps aside for the man he thought was Kincaid’s one true love. Set in the backdrop of a school shooting - truly the backdrop; the emotion of the book is on the love story not the tragedy. However Kincaid’s high school boyfriend perished in the shooting and in their grief Kincaid and Ash are separated. Now Ash, a famous author, has come back to town and sparks begin to fly again. The characters are quirky with amusing interactions and the plot sweeps us along. Some very hot sexy scenes.

I would recommend this to my patrons.

2.5 stars: This is the fourth and last book in Roni Loren's "The Ones Who Got Away" series, about four survivors of a fictional school shooting. I was really looking forward to Kincaid's story, because she struck me as the mysterious of the four friends. Unfortunately, this book could have used better writing/editing. It was WAY too long, especially the beginning. It was incredibly repetitive--we listen to Kincaid and Ash recount their reasons why they can't be together over and over again. The most interesting parts were the flashbacks to their high school days, because there the plot moved forward much more than in the current timeline. Also, once the reveals were made, I felt like the book just ended. I was much more interested in seeing how they deal with the fallout of those reveals. I hate it when an author stretches out a secret until like ¾ of the book, because it means the first ¾ are people trying to hide that secret over and over again. And that's what happened here.

Overall, this was not my favorite of the books. If you've read the others, then I'd recommend reading this because it ties everything up nicely. But I wouldn't start the series here, or read it is a standalone.

The One for You is a fitting end for this heartbreaking, but also uplifting series. In fact, Kincaid’s story may be my favorite book in the series. Much of Kincaid’s life has been one of loneliness. Her father abandoned Kincaid and her mother when Kincaid was young. Kincaid’s mother essentially abandoned Kincaid at the same time, as men became the focus of her mother’s life. Kincaid’s lifelong best friend abandoned her after the same high school massacre in which Kincaid’s boyfriend was killed. Fortunately, Kincaid reconnected with three high school friends during a television interview with the survivors of the shooting ten years later.

Ash had been in love with his best friend Kincaid for quite some time when the shooting at their high school occurred. However, Kincaid had a boyfriend that she loved, so Ash stayed silent. After the shooting, he fell apart emotionally and decided that he needed to leave their community. Ash still had occasional contact with Kincaid through her late boyfriend’s parents with whom both were still close.

Now a prominent, but poor author, Ash returns to his hometown to work on a new book after breaking up with his fiancé. He and Kincaid reconnect and slowly reestablish their friendship. Both quickly feel a romantic connection. Can two people who have been badly hurt by both circumstances and other people heal enough to find love with one another?

Following the characters of a fictional town that still bears the scars of a school shooting over a decade ago has put Roni Loren on my radar. 4 books into the series, Loren still tells powerful stories of what it means to grieve, to nurture memories that are both good and bad, and even to tell oneself certain reconstructed tales laced with rum so that life gets easier to deal with as the years go by.

‘The One For You’ seems like Roni Loren’s final book of a difficult and poignant series, closing with Kincaid Breslin’s book and honestly, this was a harder, angstier one to take in than the rest. A series of events brings old school best-friends back together again, forcing them to face some unfinished business between them as they wade through the unpleasant memories that time and space can’t erase. The rest is predictable—Ash and Kincaid rediscover their own friendship, only with a dose of attraction and lust, with a big reveal towards the end of what really went down all those years ago that would again, make or break this fragile thread linking them once more.

Impulsive, flighty and so self-absorbed, I found Kincaid a different kettle of fish to even warm up to, let alone with her thoughtless hookups and actions that made others pay for the consequences. Constantly moving, surrounding herself with people, it felt as though she couldn’t even, for one moment centre herself and figure out what she really needed, having already sold herself the delusion of losing her one and only soulmate to the school shooting, then later back-pedalling when she realised it was supposedly her best friend for her after all. Not fighting for Ash, pettily looking at faults she could find with him even after all he'd done for her, so hell-bent on independence that she shaped up as someone who put herself first only.

Instead, I felt for Ash’s pining and his prolonged pain, especially as he kept on being second-best but never the first choice. That was rough, the way he’d held out for Kincaid and watched out for her time and again with her flaunting her dates in his face, and then later being so thick (and possibly in constant denial) in the way she kept seeing through him. In essence, he deserved better.

It did feel like a cop-out after all, at the end of the book when the love declarations came flowing in fast and furious, where Loren tried to sell the idea of Kincaid and Ash as the OTP. And that ironically, was hard to buy into since the whole book was already spent detailing how Kincaid didn’t quite seem to have a heart for Ash at all the way he did for her.

It isn’t to say that this isn’t a decent book considering the overarching narrative - my own issue with characterisation aside. Loren handles the aftermath of violence, the process of rebuilding and the coming to terms with stuff with a lot of grace and class, with a watertight HEA for all. The fairy-tale ending is given to her bunch of characters who vowed to live their lives to the fullest after the tragedy, and it’s with that upbeat note that the series anyway—with the message that there is hope and a happiness that even tragedy can’t take away.

I have simply loved this series, and the last couple to get their happy ending, Kincaid and Ash, must work through multiple misunderstandings, complications, and angst before finally seeing what was meant to be all along. The premise of adult survivors of a high school shooting has been both inspired and timely, and each entry has contributed to understanding how difficult coping with life afterward must be for these individuals. Roni Loren spins caring characters and believable romances into the mix, and I for one cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.

I am sad to see this series end, but this was a stellar ending! The One For You has lots of feels, a good plot, and lovable characters. You will root forKincaid and Ash. They made me laugh and cry.

Kincaid and Ashton were best friends in high school. Ashton was secretly in love with Kincaid. A tragic event separated them and has impacted their lives since. Now they must face their past to have a future.

This book is part of a series but it could easily stand on its own. It is full of heartbreak in spots, misunderstandings and in the end forgiveness. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

The long anticipated wait is over! Finally! Finally we get Kincaid's story. And what a story it is. Turns out that the usual bubbly friend who has been there for her friends in their most needed times, has some unresolved issues herself. It's about time she faces them.

Kincaid is another one of the survivors of the Long Acre mass shooting. She has spent years dealing with the fact that she lost her soul mate and destined future husband in the shooting. It was a tragedy after all. But losing her best friend, not by the shooting but by omission, has hurt just as much. Turns out, it's also been harder to get over.

Ashton was Kincaid's best friend since she moved to Long Acre. All through the years, they'd had each other to lean on and depend on when life was just too hard to deal with. That is until the shooting. Everything changed that night and he couldn't get out of town fast enough. Too bad life has a way of slapping you in the face because he's back in Long Acre, having to deal with the past he wanted to forget...and old memories don't die.

Each and every one of the books in this series are amazing. Yes, each book deals with the same tragic event, but it's the individual stories of each survivor that pulls at your heart strings. Not that I didn't enjoy the other books, but I honestly feel like this one's my favorite.

This book just freaking WRECKED me. Kincaid was so much of an enigma in the other books, really, but The One For You really rounded out her character and gave her depth. And ASH. What a dreamboat. The secret pining for years and years thing totally scratches an itch.

There is a lot of tragedy here, but also redemption. This whole series is a knock out.

Now all these years later, Ash and Kincaid find themselves unexpectedly at the same place at the same again! Could they get back to that close-knit friendship of their youth once more...or even crazier could they be “more”!?!? Wowzer!

I really want to mention that this entire series is so well written! Just when you think Roni Loren could top herself, she completely wow’s once again! I enjoyed the idea of best friends who share so much past together rekindling their friendship/relationship! Roni Loren did a great job with giving us the current day Ash and Kincaid all the while flashing back to their past to give us their full backstory. The premise of this series is so original and each installment seamlessly builds on the previous one! I love that with every book in this series it feels like catching up with friends- so flipping good! I really never wanted this series to end, but I have to say The One For You has an epilogue that melted my heart in the best possible way! I am 100% looking forward to whatever Roni Loren comes out with next! Don’t miss this 5 star book!

I've become obsessed with Roni Loren's writing and this conclusion to her series did not disappoint! I love all of her complex, well-developed characters and she delivers a truly swoon-worthy romance every time. There are emotional moments but never in a way that feels gratuitous or unnecessary, and always balanced with plenty of levity. I'm sad for this series to end but already looking forward to whatever Loren writes next.

Ahhhh, Kincaid, your story finally arrives, and what a lovely story it was. After the terrible events that Kincaid and her fellow Long Acre friends endured, they've all lived their lives in various shades of guilt, fear, stubborness and sheer will. Kincaid Breslin feels like she had lived her best romantic life at the age of 18 and so emotional distance is all she's willing to offer. Ashton Isaacs, KC's best friend from high school, and unknowingly to Kincaid, secretly in love with her, suddenly comes back to town. Events and misunderstanding have gone on between the pair and whilst the road to hell is paved with good intentions, these things always come back to bite you. I really felt for Kincaid, I can really understand why she would be so reluctant to put herself out there. Ash is really very sweet, the little snippets of their high school life were heartwarming, even though you knew where they were leading. There are two big reveal/realisation moments in this book and I thought they were both handled so movingly, it really ended this series on such a positive note.
I must admit I missed a little more interaction with the previous characters from the series, but that is really a very small thing. After all, we've had their stories and Kincaid and Ash deservedly get the right to tell their own with no narration from anyone else.

Older now, both are still wary of one another, but when Ash comes back to town and they are forced to work on a project together, their old familiar friend rhythm comes back and Kincaid is thrilled to have her bestie back. Only, he doesn’t look like the lean, gangly teen boy she loved like a brother anymore. Nor does he feel like one. No, now Ash looks very much like a sexy, grown man who’s filled out in all the right places.

One thing leads to another and soon they aren’t acting like friends anymore, but friends with very adult benefits.

Kincaid wishes he’d stayed for ever. But Ash time in town has an expiration stamp. And when he reveals the second secret he’s been holding since the night of prom, that expiration date comes sooner than either of them expect.

This entire series was wonderful, but this book about friends to lovers, mixed with a little bit of a Cyrano plot, was in my opinion the best one!

5 stars for a fabulous book. I’m not sure if this is the last book planned for the series, but if it is, MS Loren has gone out on a superb high note.

I think this was my absolute fave in this series. The ups and downs and trusts and turns. Kincaid and Ash were made for each other from day 1! Loved it. Hope there is more to this series!!

Ash has had feelings for Kincaid forever but he's her best friend while Graham is her soulmate. Ash wants Kincaid to be happy so he let's things go on even though he doesn't like the way Graham treats her at times. Then one day when two active shooters come to their school prom things change drastically. Trauma tears the people and town up and it isn't until years later that healing starts to take place. This is the fourth book in The Ones Who Got Away series. Each of the books are outstanding and I really enjoyed them!

I love that this book revisites the characters of roni's past book. The setting is in the same small town as before, where a school mass shooting occured. You Don't have to read the other books to enjoy this one, but if you did, you will find some of the secondary characters that you loved and get to get a glimpse of their life now. The story of kinkaid and ash was very cute and I got immediatly caught up in it.
