This is my favorite book in the series and I really liked the other books so that’s saying something. It was a beautiful emotional roller coaster that I would gladly ride again. Roni Loren wrote some of the most beautiful words spoken by two broken people trying to find their way. I could relate to Kincaid so much that this book sucked me in and held me captive. Her and Ash and their story was everything! The baby fox coffee scene was one of my favorites. It made me swoon and want to cry all at the same time.

This is one of my top reads of 2019 hands down. The perfect conclusion to a gut wrenching series. I have so many emotions about this book and I could talk for days about how much I loved this book but I don’t want to give away too much. I highly recommend this whole series.

This is a heartwarming and emotional story with complex characters that have a lot of emotional baggage. It’s an engaging small town romance and a second chance for two people to learn they can love and be happy together.

The small town of Long Acre is still trying to move forward after a high school shooting changed the town forever. Ash and Kincaid have never been able to forget they are survivors of a shooting at their high school. Years later, they are still dealing with survivor's guilt and miss all the friends they lost on that horrible day that changed their lives.

Ash left town immediately after high school and he and Kincaid have both taken different roads in dealing with their grief. Unfortunately, along the way, they lost their close friendship. They reconnect again when Ash returns to Long Acre and starts working on a project with Kincaid.

In high school Ash was a nerd, but he has grown into a handsome, charming successful writer and Kincaid is finding it difficult to resist him. Kincaid is outgoing and fun loving and Ash has never stopped caring for her. Ash and Kincaid deserve to find happiness again and hopefully, they can find it together. I loved watching them fall in love and discover happiness again.

The One For You is the fourth and final book in The Ones Who Got Away series. While each book is a stand alone with different characters, I recommend that readers at least read the first book since that's really where you understand what unites these characters.

This is one of those series that I've recommended time and time again as a must read. It's hard to find a book, let alone a series, that affects you so much when reading it but Roni Loren has done a phenomenal job of evoking a lot of emotions for these characters while they still try to move on from a past that haunts them all. If you don't know the back story, twelve years ago during their High School prom night, two boys opened fire, killing dozens of students and changing the lives of everyone there.

For Kincaid Breslin one of those victims was her boyfriend and the love of her life, Graham and while twelve years have passed, she hasn't moved on. Besides dealing with grief over the loss of Graham, she also had to deal with her best friend Ash, leaving soon after the attack, making her feel abandoned and betrayed. Fast forward to the twelve year anniversary of the event and many of their old classmates have come back, including Ash. Now a semi-successful writer, Ash has left New York and a cheating ex-fiancee behind to try and write a new book and figure out where his life goes now. But coming back means that he has to face the girl he loved and left behind. Because while Kincaid always considered Ash her best friend, Ash' feelings ran deeper and after the massacre and events that occurred after, he realized he could no longer live in Long Acre and pretend.

“Once upon a time, there was a feisty little girl named Kincaid who met this awkward little boy when she was out walking one day. She adopted him as her friend on sight, and he knew his life would never be the same…”

Kincaid is completely oblivious to Ash' feelings for her which is equal amounts frustrating and funny. No matter how much time has passed, Ash still feels the same way for her but hates that he has to fight a ghost that still continues to hold on to Kincaid so tightly. But there are things that Kincaid doesn't know about the night of the massacre that threatens their new tenuous re-friendship and he's scared that telling Kincaid may be the final nail in the coffin for any sort of future.

It is tremendously bittersweet to finish this series, especially Kincaid's story. She's been that pivotal character throughout all of them, getting the group of survivors together and helping the other characters. Finally getting to read her story was what it was all leading up to for me and so worth it. Kincaid is a chatterbox and sweet, regardless of what happened to her growing up and the adult Kincaid has big dreams but trying to see them to fruition has her stumbling and unsure what to do anymore. Ash was, and still is, the nerdy guy who loves to read but now has grown up and the hipster has some muscles and is now a writer. The story alternates between the present and the past leading up to prom night and it works really well. A part of their present time is Kincaid and Ash as enemies so seeing them younger and as Best friends, seeing Ash' feelings and Kincaid being totally clueless, helps show that these two had a strong past and when they work past it, can have a future together if they can both open their eyes and heal. This series was just amazing to read and this book brings it full circle.

"On this day, I, Olivia Arias…
I, Rebecca Lindt…
I, Taryn Landry…
I, Kincaid Breslin…
Promise the Class of 2005 that I will not waste the second chance that I have been given, that I will honor all the people we lost by living my life to the fullest…"

Second chance romances are my favorite books to read and The One For You was the icing on the cake. What a massive emotional roller coaster ride this book was. At times I would be laughing, others I would be going for a box of tissues. This story is the definition of second chance romance with the two main characters surviving absolutely devastation as teenagers who are lost as adults and dealing with past demons, only to truly find themselves again in each other.

I loved loved loved loved this book! This whole series is amazing but The One For You was a one-two punch for me. I wanted more of Kincaid and Ash’s story. This was so good I didn’t want it to end.

Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for gifting me with this ARC.

Such a great ending to this Roni Loren "The Ones Who Got Away" series - I will truly miss these characters. The final pieces to the Long Acre shooting are revealed, and what reader doesn't love a story where the characters fall in love in a bookstore!

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

When I began this series, Roni Loren was a new to me author and I am so happy that I gave her a chance because this has been such a great series! I'm sad to see it coming to an end, but I'm grateful we got to spend time with such an amazing group of characters.

Kincaid Breslin is the final one of the four friends who gets her second chance at love. Just as with the others, Kincaid's life was changed that night at senior prom when the gunman opened fire. Kincaid lost her then boyfriend that night and she's never gotten over him. He is still the person that she compares other men to and she's not ready to risk her heart in that way again as she doesn't want to be left brokenhearted yet again.

Ashton Isaacs was Kincaid's best friend back in high school and with the events that transpired at the prom, he left town and has always been determined not to return. When he left, he not only left his home town, but he left his best friend and the person who meant the most to him. When life throws a curve ball at him, Ash is forced to return to Long Acre regardless of the fact that it is going to be one of the hardest things he's ever done.

When Kincaid and Ash are reunited, things are not all sunshine and roses. They are both hurt by things from the past and the way their friendship ended before has left them both with a lot of hurt feelings. When they are forced to work together for the good of their friends, they begin to patch things up, however will the secrets that Ash harbors end things again before they really begin? Also, will these two notice that the friendship they have is beginning to burn into something much stronger than that?

I enjoyed this book so much. Kincaid comes off as happy-go-lucky and the light one of the group, but the reality is actually much different. She's lonely and struggling. Ash on the other hand is totally in love with his friend and he knows she has never seen him that way, which made my heart break for him throughout the book. Knowing that he's always been second best in Kincaid's eyes was so tough to take. The way this relationship evolved from friends to lovers was organic and right.

If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it. It was enjoyable and entertaining and this group of friends is totally awesome!

Oh Mamamia what a book. This was the best for last. It's a shame it's the last book but it was a fantastic journey. To leave with theses characters their pain, laughter's, sorrow, joy was very enticing. I was rooting for Kincaid and Ash to finally get it on but it was good that it didn't happened at the beginning of the story. I was in tears by the end when he finally told her what exactly happened that faithful day. All in all a brilliant story. Great characters. Great pace. Enough chemistry to burn the pages.
I voluntarily review this ARC. The opinions here are all mine.

So, idk this book is part of a series but man...i was blown away by this. It was such a heart wrenching read. I didn't know what to expect when reading it but wow...this story, although tough to read, was just amazing. I'm definitely going to go back and read from the beginning but what a way to end it.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow

This is how you finish off a series.

The The Ones Who Got Away series has followed each woman in a group of friends who survived a school shooting. They were brought back together in the first book when a documentary was being made about the shooting, and since the events in first book they have supported each other as they each get their HEA in turn.

In the first 3 books, Kincaid Breslin kind of functioned as the one who pushed her friends to follow their hearts, and in this book she finally gets her shot at the HEA. In high school, Kincaid was the super popular girl, the prom queen, but her home life was less than ideal. Her biggest support was her best friend Ash, but he ran away after the shooting and broke her heart. When Ash comes back to town as a stopgap while he writes his next novel, he and Kincaid try to pick up the pieces of their friendship and ignore their growing chemistry.

Of course, we all know how that goes in romance novels.

I absolutely loved this book. Kincaid is such a positive character, determined to better her life and get out from under the shadow of her past. I am also such a sucker for the dynamic of Person Has Been in Love With Other Person Their Whole Life and Other Person Has No Clue. Ash's half of this story is so heartbreaking - he loved this girl and sacrificed so much of his own happiness for her (I won't spoil exactly how he does this - the story unfolds so beautifully and naturally through the whole book) and she never had any idea. The depth of feeling from his side is so strong and so real, and when Kincaid finally realizes how she feels it is such a moment of catharsis.

These books have all had the school shooting tragedy as their lynchpin, and the ending of this fourth installment wraps the whole series up in such a beautiful way. I love that these characters have all overcome their own problems, many of them stemming from this one event, and that each of them in turn found happiness and completion. This whole series has been such a joy to read, even the hardest parts of it. Roni Loren should be proud of her achievement with this series.

On a lighter note, she should also be proud of this section in particular. I laughed myself sick and now so should you:

She sniffed indelicately against his shirt collar. “I don’t want to be crying. I hate crying. Especially over some stupid guy. And he wasn’t even good in bed, so it was a total waste.”
Ash snorted. “I really don’t want to know about the guy’s bedroom skills.”
“He hung his cowboy hat on his dick like I should be impressed,” she said, her voice muffled against his shirt.
Ash groaned but she could hear the laughter in it. “I’m officially traumatized. Please stop.”
“And he refused to take off his boots,” she said, smiling into his shoulder, some weird delirium replacing the tears. “Like for the whole time.”
“The visuals are literally killing me, KC. Please, no more,” he begged, making the plea overdramatic.
She lifted her head. “When he came—”
Ash pressed his fingers over her lips, shaking his head, biting back a grin.  “Nope. Not gonna listen. Can’t—”
“He said ‘yeehaw,’” she finished from behind his fingers.
Ash’s eyes widened, and then he burst out laughing, tipping his head back against the wall and his own tears appearing. “Holy shit. You’re making this up.”
She snort-laughed. “Sadly no. It was really that bad. So, so bad.”

Reader, I freaking lost it.

The greatest endorsement I can give The One For You is this: I stayed up ridiculously long past my bedtime to finish it in one sitting, and when I skimmed it again in preparation for writing my review, I felt all the feelings again. I must be a masochist, because my gauge of how much I love an angst-ridden book is how much physical pain I feel while reading this. And Roni Loren makes me feel it in my bones. The pining! Oh, the pining.

Kincaid has been a bit of a mystery through the previous books. I really enjoyed finally getting to know her on a deeper level. She’s sassy, quick-witted, and creative. I like that she’s unapologetic about who she is. It’s no wonder that Ash has been stupid in love with her for eons. I invested in Ash so hard. I loved seeing an introverted, bookish nerd who’s so far in his own head get constantly yanked back to the real world by the force of nature that is Kincaid. Their friendship gives them such a good foundation to develop a new kind of relationship on even with all the baggage we learn about. Plus—hot guy reading with glasses and tattoos. I mean, come on. It’s just not even fair.

I think this book could be read as a stand-alone, but readers will get a lot more out of it by reading the full series in order. It’s important to understand the context of the characters’ shared trauma. It’s also the best way to experience how deftly Loren writes about healing and moving forward from tragedy—namely, that there’s no one way and certainly no right way to do it. The right way is the one that lets you survive. More than in the previous books, Ash and Kincaid think they have that figured out. They think that by putting it behind them they have conquered it. Ash ignores it. Kincaid gives it the finger. It’s worked well enough, but this is a romance. The reward of reading it is seeing them realize they’re not doing as well as they thought and that they do immensely better together.

The One For You is an excellent conclusion to one of my favorite series. It’s one I can see myself coming back to time and time again.

CW: gun violence, violent death, domestic violence, gender discrimination in the workplace, child neglect
Tropes: Childhood friends to lovers, pining hero, stoic/repressed one falls for tornado one, sex pact, unrequited love

Wow! Roni Loren finished The Ones Who Got Away series with a flourish. Kincaid (KC) and Ash were best friends in high school. But after a terrible school shooting that shatters their lives, Ash flees town. Reunited years later, Ash and KC are unexpectedly reunited. Can they forgive each other and themselves?

So first off, this book is a bit steamy, so it is best to read it in private. I loved KC; she was a relatable and badass woman who took no bull from any man. And I loved how Ash loves KC. They are a formidable pair and their relationship felt so real. This is probably my favorite book in the series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the series in order. And have your tissues ready! Thank you Roni Loren for such a treat!

Kincaid Breslin lost both her boyfriend and best friend due to the Long Acre shooting but in different ways. One was gone forever and one left town.

Ashton Isaacs always planned on leaving Long Acre, but after the tragic events and another incident, he took off and did not look back. He always loved Kincaid but was always just the sidekick. He followed his dreams of traveling and being a writer, but now his life is in transition so he is home in the interim.

Kincaid stayed and is a real estate agent. She has friends but has lost hope for a real relationship and is tired of being hurt. She measures every relationship by impossible standards and is used to being left behind. She tends to be a bit flighty and impulsive and just made one decision that could really affect her future. And now she is face to face with her old best friend that broke her heart with his departure.

Now they are asked to work on a joint project that keeps putting them back in close proximity. They are trying to work on rekindling their lost friendship. But this new Ashton is surprisingly more attractive to her and she is reluctantly taking notice. And poor Ash is still getting over a recent heartbreak and has always loved Kincaid, so he is trying to resist. But do they really want to? And if they don't, can they stay friends when he leaves again?

Ash has some secrets and guilt that have stayed with him all this time. And Kincaid has always been plagued by "What ifs?" And she does not even know the full truth of their shared past. Their lives were tied together before as the closest of friends and then bound together by tragedy and damaged by distance. They both struggle with self-worth issues, fears, and insecurities. But now they have a chance to come clean and hopefully move forward one way or another.

This is a beautiful, angsty, and emotional best-friends-to-lovers story that took years to come to fruition due to tragedy, secrets, ommissions, and hidden feelings. It is also the conclusion of this series about four friends who survived and had to find their purpose and love in the aftermath. Their reconnection was a catalyst for change in all of their lives and helped them to let go of grief, guilt, and pain in order to embrace hope, move on, and find love and happiness. I loved how the author wrapped up this story for all of the characters as well as just Ash and Kincaid.

Ash is definitely my favourite hero from this series. What can I say, he had all the right words and the type of personality I liked best: the one who made sacrifices, the anti-hero. Kincaid didn’t let me down either, don’t mistake her sweet personality, she was no pushover.

There is some predictability in the plot line after the halfway mark but Roni Loren kept it interesting.

This group of incredibly courageous women has come full circle. I will miss them.

WOW!!!! This was a wonderful book & a fantastic series. I'm charged with emotions so strong after reading this book, what a great way to end this series. I enjoyed this book so much it's hard to put into words just how much. Definitely keep a box of Kleenex on hand while reading this book(entire series), I went through a 1/4 of a box of Kleenex just on the epilogue alone. Sadness was a strong emotion throughout it mostly because of Ash's unrequited love for Kincaid all these years. I laughed until I had tears during the goat scene with Barry & Beula. Anger was definitely present when Kincaid lost her job because of a lie & when they ran into Ash's parents, I thought for sure that Kincaid would give Ash's parents a tongue lashing or somehow let it been known publicly what a jerk his dad was. It was sweet revenge I felt when they got back at the lying cowboy, like they did in their youth to Kincaid's ex-boyfriends when needed. I was a sobbing mess when Ash told Kincaid the truth about the night of the prom. I was excited when Ash & Kincaid finally decided to take their friendship to a physical level even though it was only for a short time, they scorched every page. I loved the friendship that they had growing up & my heart broke for them both as we experienced the memories of their youth. The way you brought everything full circle to the 4 women with their promise letters again was touching & beautiful. To author Roni Loren, you outdid yourself with this book & series, thank you for writing it. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. I definitely recommend this book & series as a must read. It is on the top of my must read again list. I received this book from the publisher through Net Galley for an honest review.

The One For You is my first book by Roni Loren, and it also happens to be the last in a series. However, that didn't stop me enjoying this story immensely. Even though it was an emotionally tough read. As the characters are survivors of a high school shooting in which at prom, a time they should have been letting loose, and having fun, their lives were altered forever.

Yet, Kincaid and Ash's story is complicated still further by the fact they were once best friends. But after the shooting everything changed and whilst Kincaid's memory of that night is fuzzy she's clear that her best friend, the guy she later had sex with walked away when she needed him the most. But for Ash his memories are different, as he knows more about what occurred before his classmates started shooting. And so, he walked away, in the hope that distance would dull the memories and pain of loving his best friend. Whom he believes will always consider him as second best.

And The One For You takes you on a journey that is at times heart breaking, but also uplifting, sweet, fun and absolutely absorbing. As the past and present collide and you learn about Ash and Kincaid's friendship before that fatal night. As well as see them rebuild their friendship and embark on a relationship, and with a great group of secondary characters who were all likable and engaging. This really was a fantastic and at times dazzling read. That I would happily recommend to others, and I'll definitely be going back and reading the earlier books in this series as well.

As heartbreaking as this series has been, it’s truly one that you will remember for a very long time.
Though a stand alone, I highly recommend you read the previous stories all centering around the lives of the survivors of a school shooting .
Ten years later, those that survived still are suffering from survivor’s guilt. Some staying to build new lives and others, leaving . That is the case of Ashton Isaacs.
His best friend before the shooting was Kincaid Breslin. She took a different road. She felt that having survived , she needed to live her life .
Ashton/Ash’s return brings back the memories and also the possibility of more than their friendship. But will the secrets get in the way, even though Ash loves Kincaid?
Be sure to have your hankies ready.
Another well written story by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

4.5 stars - Roni Loren continues to blow me away with this series. This installment finds Kincaid reconnecting with her, one time, best friend Ashton. He’s crushed on her since forever and that fateful prom night, just before the their lives changed forever, he was ready to put it all on the line. Then the shooting happened and everything changed. When they find themselves back at the bookstore again, Ashton has to decide what he wants and what he’s willing to risk. Kincaid too will have some hard choices to make and memories to face. When the flashbacks come, and the truth Kincaid forgot is finally revealed then they have to decide where to go from there.

This continues to be a very engaging and moving series. The fact that it’s also a friends to lovers story just makes it extra special to me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story is a tear jerker and a new beginning story between two people that survived a tragedy. Kincaid and Ash were best friends until that fateful night. Kincaid Breslin wasn't supposed to survive the night of her school's prom night shooting. Her best friend Ashton Isaacs stepped in and saved her life.

Ash had been in love with Kincaid for as long as he could remember, he put aside his feelings and helped her get the guy she wanted by writing secret admirer card and left them in the book store she was working at after school. The night of the prom, Ash confronted Kincaid about her boyfriends behavior, but she wasn't able to remember what actually happened until he began to retell the story. Kincaid thought her boyfriend was everything she had ever wanted and that her soul mate had been taken away from her. Not realizing her soul mate was right in front of her the whole time. Ash is everything that any woman would want.

I love the second chance these two get. While they were best friends, they were able to share things with each other that they wouldn't normally share with anyone else. I loved that these two were able to get everything they ever wanted by laying it all on the line. Kincaid was the cheerleader for all her friends through the rest of the series, I loved how they were able to get together and try to put the tragedy behind them and continue to build the future together with their families and together. I couldn't get over how Kincaid was able to show the other girls just how much they meant to her. The Epilogue was so touching and I couldn't keep a dry eye as she made dedications to each of her friends that were there for each other throughout the years. I couldn't imagine a better ending to a series that started with such a tragedy bringing these girls together.

Received ARC in exchange for honest and voluntary review from NetGalley.
