This last book from the late Janet Chapman features Katy McBain and Gunnar Wolfe. Katy went to a training course for fire and rescue and then essentially disappeared for three weeks afterwards. Her best friend sent Gunnar on a mission to find Katy; he just also happens to be the new temporary fire chief and Katy’s new boss. Several of Katy’s overprotective Highlander cousins who live in the town and have already given stink eye to any prospective males who might be interested in her.

Gunnar is determined to solve the mystery of this intriguing young women to whom is he very attracted. As the new guy in town he has much to learn about its quirky and sometimes oddly magical inhabitants. Katy has a certain kind of magic on her own that works well with for a career as a paramedic. Katy has several challenges including becoming a part of a team who already know each other well, avoiding her nosy and busybody relatives, and resisting Gunnar’s charms.

On a darker note, this story contains an incidence of sexual assault which may be a trigger for some readers so it may not be for everyone. Reading it as a standalone, some aspects are less than clear regarding other characters mentioned and parts of the main story line. As this book is the final in the series, readers who have followed it Ms. Chapman’s work will be happy to visit this enchanted place one last time.

I mostly enjoyed Call It Magic. Unfortunately this was the first book by this author and in this series that I had read and I found myself confused at times as I didn't have the necessary background information. The author didn't do the best job to settle new readers into her world.
Overall it as a good read, but it didn't stand out to me. That doesn't mean it will be a delight for another reader.

I was so excited to receive an arc for review of Call It Magic. Janet Chapman’s loyal fans have been waiting for her final book since she passed away in 2017 and it was so warming to feel her sprinkling magic on us from up above. It is nice to check in with characters from her other books as well as find out what happens when Gunnar finally catches up with Katy. There were a few places in the story that I felt didn’t quite get finished, but Katy and Gunnar’s story didn’t disappoint. Readers may find themselves still dreaming about what might be happening in Spellbound Falls next.

Janet Chapman returns to Spellbound Falls with her new romance, but adds an underlying mystery to her heroes. Knowledge of her previous books will enhance your enjoyment as many prevoius characters have bearing in the story.

In the late Janet Chapman's final romance, she ties up loose ends left in From Kiss to Queen as Gunnar Wolfe tracks Katy McBain to Spellbound Falls. Longtime fans will realize she's brought all of her worlds together, and she tackles some tough issues as Katy and Gunnar work side-by-side in the local fire department: He's unexpectedly been named chief, and she's the new paramedic. So adventure one last time with her magical Highlander McBains, visit Spellbound Falls where Atlantis is real, and feel the love Chapman had for her readers and her characters.

I was very surprised to see this book published knowing that the author is no longer with us.
Janet Chapman's books have always been the best in my eyes. I read all of them. This one does not dissapoint. A wonderful book to read!!! Romance. Great storyline. Surprises and of course an awesome ending!

Katy and Gunnars story was great. I like how she jumped in with wrong conclusions which are fun to watch. I also liked the sub plot in knowing when to talk to some one when a terrible thing happens to you. I also love this community and how they are there for each other

Katy MacBain is starting a new job as paramedic in Spellbound Falls. She's just finished her mountain rescue training and is eager to join the Fire and Rescue Team. But she's got a secret that her boss, Gunnar Wolfe the town's interim fire chief, wants to learn... she was untraceable for 3 weeks. Where did she go? And why?

Why I started this book: Chapman's first romances are fond memories and fun rereads in times of stress... so I was eager to request her latest when I found it on NetGalley.

Why I finished it: Struggled with book a little, to much reliance on the "magic" and less on the romance. But let's be honest, Chapman, I'll read your next book because of my nostalgia for your first books.

Janet Chapman's Call It Magic is a fun filled adventure. Call It Magic starts up right after From Kiss to Queen. I really enjoyed the book, but had to go back to From Kiss to Queen and reread it because I felt lost at the beginning without that context. People who have not read Janet's other books may have problems with this as a stand alone novel. This is the story of Katie McBain (daughter of Libby and Michael MacBain from Wedding the Highlander) and Gunnar Wolfe from From Kiss to Queen. Katie is starting a new job in Spellbound Falls Fire and Rescue. However two weeks before starting the job she disappeared basically without a trace. Now she is starting the job, and Gunnar Wolfe wants to find out where she has been and what happened to her. Gunnar is her new supervisor at Spellbound Falls Fire and Rescue. Katie is dealing with something, something she wants to keep hidden from everyone. Katie can't understand why she is so drawn to Gunnar, and why what happened to her matters so much to him. However, however much she wants to hide, keeping her hands off her new boss is a real challenge. There are cameos of characters for past books in this story. It is an excellent story, but it really requires some familiarity with Janet's past books to be fully understood.

I have read almost all of Janet Chapman's books (I think I missed one recently - but I have to double check) This one was delightful addition to her series. Looking forward to more!

I always love a Janet Chapman book, and this one was so much fun to read. Love the interplay between Gunnar and Katy. There are always twists and turns, things that may be not obvious at first. These are the bits that entangle you in the story and keep you reading. Thanks for the great story!

This is one of favorite authors of all times and I am so sad that this is her last book.. RIP. I loved this book. This is a book of magic and how our main characters deal with magical powers. I loved the characters and loved seeing characters from other books again.. This is the last book in the series but if you like magic in your books please go back and read her highland book and the spin offs.
