Davis Winger, a self-proclaimed good guy, designs roller coasters, and a new log flume ride that he's designed experiences a problem which injures a young woman. On the same day, his wife finds out about a previous indiscretion. His life as he knows it changes instantaneously. Davis' sister Molly is dealing with her own issues including job security as a writer at a local newspaper and being abandoned by her mom when she was little.

I really enjoyed this book. I was pulled in by the story and loved the element of roller coaster design - I had never read anything with that in the story line. Davis' relationships with his family and friends are sweet yet flawed. Good dialogue and likable characters. I wasn't familiar with the author but I'll check out his other book "Thank you, Goodnight".

A Beginner's Guide to Free Fall by Andy Abramowitz is about a man who hits a crisis at work and in his marriage. There were some parts I enjoyed and others I found irritating so overall it was an uneven reading experience.

With hundreds of ratings and helpful reviews, I'll just say that this worked for me. I've read better books, but the author has a good sense of humor and writes pretty well.

Thanks for review copy!!

A Beginner's Guide to Free Fall started of pretty strong, the story line was intriguing and the characters were interesting enough to keep me reading on. It all started going downhill when the main character, Davis decided to deal with his problems by acting defensively and flat out refusing to accept anyone's point of view except his own. Overall he comes off as an egocentric, judgemental, controlling, misogynistic douche bag. The other main character, Davis's sister - Molly, is cringe-inducing on the other end of the scale. She is very insecure about herself and her talent, dating a much younger boyfriend whom she shared zero interest with and basically everything he does annoyed her to no end. For the sake of being safe, she stuck by him, but at the same time nonstop doubting herself if this relationship is going anywhere. Even when her career took off on a national scale, she flat out refused to accept that it's her talent that got her there. There were some funny banters shared between the siblings and light moments here and there to make reading this more bearable.

Roller coaster accident, marriage problems, childhood issues. I just didn't 'click with the characters in this story. I had a hard time sticking to it. The main character is very childish and unlikable. His sister has low self esteem from abandonment issues by their mother. Just not an enjoyable read at least for me. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of A Beginner's Guide to Free Fall by Andy Abramowitz.

David and Molly are siblings with a close and warm relationship. They call each other often to top each other in coming up with the worst business ideas. But their own lives aren't ideal. David's marriage and career are starting to unravel, and Molly is in a relationship going nowhere. But through their own work and support from family and each other, maybe they can use their difficulties as a launchpad into something better.

I did enjoy this one. I like family dramas, mostly because I love reading about relationships, and how informative they are to who we are. This was well written, with warmth but authenticity. It moved slowly enough for me to drift in and out every now and again, but I was always very invested in the story.

I love the cover. I really, really didn't like Davis. Overall an okay book but not one I'd necessarily recommend.
