Thank you for the advanced copy of this book. Another great work of fiction by Mary Burton. This is either book 2 or 3 I have read by Mary and it really won't be the last.

"I See You" is the second book in the criminal profiler series however these books can be read as a stand-alone. It seems like each book will have different characters with a central theme of criminal profilers. I enjoyed this one! I just could not figure out who the correct suspect was. This story had a lot of twists and turns and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a criminal profiler type book that isn't super predictable.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

A fantastic read that keeps you hooked. I couldnt help but think of The First 48 while reading this. I rather enjoyed the criminal element from a police standpoint. In so many other thrillers we are coming from a victim or another outsider's perspective, but in this case, you're following the unfolding of a homicide investigation. Awesome and quick read!

I love Mary Burton's books and this one was no exception. I found I had to concentrate quite hard as the plot was very involved, but worth it. Special Agent Zoe Spencer and her "friend-with-benefits" Detective William Vaughan think they are trying to solve a cold case after Spencer recreates the face of a murder victim when a skull is found in a storage unit. The case twists and turns, and more bodies turn up putting the case into the present. I have said before that Mary Burton doesn't hold back on crime scene description, and this book is no exception, quite gory in parts but very compelling just the same, as are the love scenes between Spencer and Vaughan. All in all a very satisfactory read, and as usual I was sorry to come to the end. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks for the preview copy.

I See You – Mary Burton

I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.
Nikki McDonald is a disgraced reporter, looking for a big scoop to propel her back into the limelight. So, when she receives a tip that leads her to a burned skeleton in a trunk in an old woman’s storage unit, she’s determined to insert herself into the investigation in hopes of scooping the story.

Special Agent Zoe Spencer is a gifted artist and utilizes her skills as a sculptor to restore identities to murder victims. When she receives the skull from the burned skeleton and gives it a face, her boss recognizes her as a young college co-ed that disappeared in 2001, Marsha Price, whose case had quickly gone cold with no suspects.

Detective William Vaughn is Zoe’s liaison with the Alexandria PD, and occasional lover, who is investigating a messy homicide scene when he receives Zoe’s call regarding her Jane Doe. As they re-open the case and begin the investigation, one of their first visits is to Marsha’s sister Hadley, who is astonished at the discovery. As Vaughn & Zoe dig deeper into the past, Hadley and her daughter Skylar suddenly go missing…and a murderer starts killing again, or did he ever stop??

This was a great read, as are all of Mary Burton’s novels. I was sucked right in within the first couple of pages, and quickly became engrossed in discovering just who the protagonist would turn out to be! This one kept me up well into the night! Well worth the read!!

Mary Burton has the ability to write a book and keep her readers on the edge, she always has the perfect timing to bring the intrigue a bit further. every element is brought at a perfect pace and gives the reader just enough information to try and guess where the story is going without giving too much information. This book is no exeption to her other ones, it's highly entertaining and I loved it. it's a 4.5 stars for me. I also kept on thinking that this book would make an amazing movie.

FBI Agent Zoe Spencer is a skeletal reconstruction specialist who uses skeletal remains to recreate the faces of murder victims. William Vaughan is a homicide detective who has some history with Zoe Spencer. A reconstruction of a skull finds Zoe and William working on a cold case from over 10 years ago.As the investigation progresses though they discover that the case may not be as clear-cut as they thought and the killer might be closer than they think.

I See You by Mary Burton is the second book in the thrilling romantic suspense Criminal Profiler series and can be read as a stand alone. It has well developed characters and is an excellent romantic thriller which focuses on the mystery as well making it an enjoyable addition to the series.

I would like to thank Montlake Romance & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

I See You by Mary Burton is a great read! It draws you in from the beginning and keeps you on your toes. There are many twists and turns, along with secrets, lies, mystery, suspense and some romance to boot. It is a smorgasbord of genres. Vaughn and Spencer not only have to deal with solving the mystery of a missing wife and daughter, but also the death of some working girls, plus one. Eventually, it comes to light that both cases are tied together. Burton kept me guessing until the very end in that I vacillated between two characters while trying to determine the guilty party. All in all, this is a great read, that drew me back again and again until I finished it. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to review this book.

Criminal Profiler #2, Part of a series but can be read as a standalone like with most of Mary Burton books. Burton's writing is engaging and thrilling and always keeps me on my toes, Written in third person the POV goes from protagonist to side characters and switches to first person POV for the antagonist, still keeping the identity of the baddie a secret 'til the end.

FBI Special Agent Zoe Spencer started of life as a dancer but due to an unfortunate accident she had to stop dancing which lead her to art and then to the FBI. Although she is a criminal profiler she also gets pulled onto cases requiring her artist talent and does forensic sketches or sculptures independently from her team. Most recently she was given a charred skull that was discovered by a reporter who was given a tip. A tip from the very person who put the body in there in the first place who was looking for some recognition after all this time.

Discovering who the skull belonged to puts her smack in the middle of the cold case investigation working side by side with her occasional lover Homicide Detective William Vaughn. The more questions they ask the more the killer gets nervous and soon the cold case is hot again with another murder, and another. Working together Vaughn and Zoe try to figure out what happened all those years ago and why the killer started up again, unless he never stopped.

Vaughn and Zoe keep it professional for the most part but soon realize what they have is not casual anymore but Zoe isn't sure she's ready to move on from the death of her husband with someone new someone with the same occupation. This case bring them closer than ever but catching this killer is going to make them both realize something big. Overall it's a really good read it keeps you going from start to finish. Mary Burton is one of my go to authors for romantic suspense and this one did not disappoint.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series – I have not read the previous book, but had no trouble being fully engaged with this story.

This is a clever, complex murder mystery, which unfolds in time sequenced chapters. There are twists and turns and we are given so many versions of what happened, that it is intriguing to find out just what really happened. I felt the level of tension was maintained without it being too intense. We get to meet a wide law enforcement team, but mostly spend time with Zoe Spencer and William Vaughan. They had met before at a profiler course she was leading, and had been strongly attracted to each other.

The relationship between the two is examined in a few scenes, and as they worked the case, they came to some realisations of their own about how they felt about each other. Zoe in particular, having suffered becoming a widow at a young age, needed to find herself before considering starting again, but by the end of the book, she has a clearer view.

I enjoyed how there were many weird clues which made no sense and as we got another version, seemed even more off – it raised the stakes of the possible perpetrators' motive, actions, and essentially, their version of reality. I shall definitely look out for the next one in the series.

M/F Thriller

Zoe and Vaughn are brought together by an old cold case. Zoe is amazing with facial reconstruction and when an old cold case is brought new life by her identifying the remains, we are left tracking down who could have done it – looking at both motive and guilt of everyone involved.

While I liked the mystery aspect, the romance left a little to be desired. Neither character really seemed ready for a full relationship and it felt very flat. I did think that they made good police partners, but not romantic partners.

This mystery is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing. There is pertinent information buried in the misdirection of the story and I liked how I kept having to go back and rethink the mystery.

Overall, this was entertaining, but lacked the relationship component that was supposed to be there.

Triggers: Murder, stalking, suicide

Title: I see You
Series: Criminal Profiler #2
Author: Mary Burton
Genre: Suspense
Montlake Romance

Pages: 348
Rating:5

FBI special agent Zoe Spencer uses skeletal remains to recreate the faces of murder victims through sculpture. Though highly scientific, the process is also sensitive and intimate; she becomes attached to the individuals she identifies, desperate to find justice for each.

As Zoe examines old remains, she sees a teenage girl looking back at her—the victim in a cold case from over a decade ago. Zoe wants nothing more than to tell this young woman’s story and to bring her killer to justice.

Zoe’s case leads her to the victim’s hometown and to homicide detective William Vaughan, Zoe’s on-again, off-again lover. As the two become more involved in the case, they quickly realize that it isn’t as cold as they first believed: someone’s still out there hunting women. And with more women gone missing, time’s running out. Can they work together and stop this madman before he kills again?

My thoughts
Would I recommend it? Yes
Would I read more of this series? Yes
Would I read more of this author? Yes, in fact I have one other of her books to read.
Wow, for a second book in a series it packs a lot of twist and turns that pulls you in to the story, a cold case, and a present day murder case. Mixed in with a romance that takes nothing away from the story. Plus the more you're reading the more it keeps you guessing as to who is the killer and why is he or she doing this, as well as makes you question wither the killer is the same one who is linked to the cold case, and can you trust what the victims themselves are saying. With that said I would love to say thanks to NetGalley for letting me read and review it and I can't wait to read more of this series .
