I adore Davidson's writing. He has a way with the slow burn that just makes me keep flipping the pages. I loved IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN and this was no different. His writing is exquisite and I felt like such a part of the story.

I unfortunately was not able to fully finish this novel before the archive date, though the portion I did read was very intriguing and atmospheric. I look forward to picking it back up now that it's been released!

Having visited Arkansas a few times, the vibe it gives off is very accurate, lol.

I really enjoyed this! I like how magic was just barely woven into the story with Iskra and her cabin. Also, as someone who is into archery, Miranda preferring a bow to the normal gun as a weapon was very satisfying. I don't really have much more to say other than it was just a fun read.

This was much too scary for me, but I realize that that's what will make it a great book to read for others. What I liked about it was the descriptions of the bayou. Those descriptions helped make the book come alive for those of us who have never been in a bayou.

This was right up my street! Loved it!
Miranda has been running contraband in the swamps of Louisiana. Seems straight-forward enough. but then there's a whole odd thing going on here with a witch, a mystical child, and the crazy preacher she works for. This is sort of a fantasy and sort of a horror story- it's next to impossible to categorize. The writing is evocative and atmospheric.
The author is master storyteller and I want to read other stories written by him.
Not at all what I was expecting but it's a good read if you're looking to go outside your comfort zone. Definitely try this!

Atmospheric and haunting, this book was surprising in its depth of writing and colorful characters. Miranda survives by her wits, running drugs and dealing with corruption in an attempt to survive alone. Worth the read!

Trigger Warnings: Sexual assault and attempted sexual assault. Violence. A tad bit of gore (not over the top, though).

I need to take a break every once in a while from my mindless romance and buzzy literary fiction books, and this one was a detour I’m glad I decided to take.

Miranda Crabtree was just a child when her father was killed and she found a mysterious baby near where he perished. Years later, she transports contraband for a crazy preacher and his small band of followers in order to protect the child and stay alive. When both humans and demons start causing trouble, and the preacher makes an impossible demand of Miranda, she can no longer keep her head down. She’ll have to make some tough decisions, because life as she knows it is about to change.

Witchcraft, demons, corrupt preachers, this gritty horror has a little bit of everything. I had no expectations going in; it just looked interesting. It’s definitely weird. I had a little trouble keeping up with everything here and there, but overall, it came together pretty well.

In this book, you’ll see some of the worst parts of humanity, but don’t despair, because there’s plenty of the best parts, too. Parts about family and what it means, and about how far some people will go to protect the ones they hold dear.

It’s out today, so if you like your horror more paranormal and dark, definitely check this one out.

4.5 stars to Davidson's action-packed, swamp magic filled, anxiety inducing thrill ride, THE BOATMAN'S DAUGHTER! Do you like action? Brooding? Cults? Women highly skilled with a bow and arrow? Ancient swamp magic? REVENGE?!? Obviously you do. You need to read this book asap! Real world terrors mix with volatile magic deep in the festering bayous of Arkansas. Miranda Crabtree will find herself fighting with everything she's got to protect her family from evil men. This book is bloody and terrifying, but also full of heart and found family vibes. It's like Winter's Bone meets Beast of the Southern Wild.

I received this from Netgalley.com for a review.

"Ever since her father was killed when she was just a child, Miranda Crabtree has kept her head down and her eyes up, ferrying contraband for a mad preacher and his declining band of followers to make ends meet and to protect an old witch and a secret child from harm."

Kind of a weird, eerie, obscure story. The writing is a bit disjointed but compelling, once I got the hang of it.

Fantasy/mythological stories aren’t an easy sell in our collection, but I picked this to read based on other rave reviews. I think it’s too “out there” for our readership.

I never would have read this book if it hadn't been on Netgalley. And that would have been a damned shame. This story is everything I dislike in a book. Too damned hot and swampy! Well, by the time I finished this book, I was thinking that living alone in this place would be great for me. Not near as great as someplace with icebergs, a huge picture window and a woodstove, but close!
This story had atmosphere. I took it into my dreams at night. I didn't want to, but I'd fall asleep to the light of it on my Kindle, and down we'd go! I loved these people! They were everything I would never want to know. But, here. In this book, they got me! This is one of those books that I will revisit again. Just because I will need to be in their company again. Mr. Davidson did an excellent job on building this tiny section of the world. I'll be reading more!
My thanks to the publishers, the author and netgalley.

I was so excited to receive an ARC of The Boatman's Daughter after reading so many stellar reviews about the novel.. The book is beautifully written and I was invested in what would happen to the characters involved but there was something missing. It's almost hard for me to even pinpoint considering that there was a lot I really enjoyed about the novel.

This is one powerful and epic novel. It draws you in and you are instantly transported and held captive by the forest,, the water, the sound of insects and things slithering through the woods. Tragic and haunting, filled with a diverse cast of characters and a touch of the supernatural

Andy Davison's The Boatman's Daughter is a fantastical story. While there is magic and monsters and actions beyond belief, true depravity always lies within human action. There is a significant amount of violence in this book and--warning--a fair amount of it is done to children, but none of it is detailed or descriptive. I feel like it is done tastefully in order to get the message across without feeling like overkill. Overall, a beautiful, violent story with a surprisingly resounding message of hope and the power of family--whether it is blood or found.
