This book made me feel like I was sitting down for a chat and catch up with an old friend.
The story is told over the course of just over a year in Ginnys life with its up and downs regarding love, friendships and work. I found Ginny as a character funny and very relatable and this made me genuinely interested as to where her life would take her next.
This book is a funny and enjoyable read but also does touch on harder hitting topics such as depression which i felt was handled very well.
Overall a lovely, heartfelt book to dive into.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

When I first started reading this book, I thought that it was going the same as others, and to an extent, it was - there is romance, betrayal and more romance. But, an interesting part of the story for me was the developing relationship between neighbours. It was very sensitively handled and proved that just because you’re famous, doesn’t mean you’ll fiind happiness necessarily.

Thanks to NetGalley & Avon Books UK for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

A mostly enjoyable read about 2 unlikely neighbors who become friends. It took me a while to get into this book, and the main character Ginny drove me crazy a few times, but the idea of friendship and life in your 30s was a redeeming quality of this book.

There were things I loved about this book and also things that I didn’t.

I was a huge fan of Cassie and Ginnys friendship. The beginning of the book made it seem like Cassie was witty and wise and Ginny would be learning all life lessons from her. This changed about halfway through and I liked how Ginny helped Cassie grow as well.

Now what I wasn’t a fan of. Ginnys lack of communication. Her complicated and lonely ‘love life’ would have been solved so easily if she would have just talked to Nick. I also was not a big fan of the ending. It was finally her chance to talk and the entire chapter was full of interruptions that by the time she did get everything out, it felt rushed. I would have liked to have seen more personal dedicated time.

I know this isn’t supposed to be a love story so I still would give it 3.5/5 stars because I did enjoy Cassie and Ginny together!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review

Different in that it was not so much a love story but more about growing friendships among neighbours. Not really my preferred read but good all the same!

I do like books that steer away from the usual romance plot and books focusing on friendship are normally good reads for me but unfortunately this just didn’t live up to my expectations. Despite liking both characters who are very different I found that the story just dragged and it took ages for me to get into . I thought it might pick up half way but it was very predictable and maybe just too long to keep me engaged. I wouldn’t say it was a bad read but Just nothing special .thankyou to netgalley and Avon books for this ARC . Oh but I do really like the cover !

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I thought the characters were quite good but I don't think the book lived up to it's potential, it seemed disjointed at times and felt as if something was missing.

Although not a book I would purchase in my professional life, it is one that I will be recommending in my volunteer life and to friends. I expected a light read, but it was more than that, and I enjoyed it!

This was a light and easy read, was a good switch up from all the dark thrillers I've been reading lately. I did find that it dragged a little bit in the beginning but overall I really liked the theme focusing more on the relationship between the two female friends more than your more common, generic love story found in most chic lit.

I read this book very quickly in one sitting, it's a heartwarming read.
This book wasn't what I was expecting but in a good way.
This book isn't your usual romance boy meets girl, falls in love etc, it's more about the friendship between the two neighbours.
This book is about two friends that need each other, some help, friendship and loyalty. Two neighbours who can both help each other in one way or another.
Ginny is a woman who just caught her boyfriend cheating with her boss, she's lost her job and her life has been turned upside down completely.
Cassie is the downstairs neighbour who's an older lady who was once a well known actress who's life is complicated and could also do with someone to lean on. There's a 20yr age gap between the ladies but that didn't matter, they didn't know each other but actually really needed each other.
Friendship, loyalty, heartbreak and difficult decisions.
I liked the characters in this book and the fact that they brought something different and they became firm friends and helped each other through tough times.
This book has some dark times with some difficult life issues and I don't want to give anything away.
This book did have a few humours and heartwarming parts but I did feel that the story was a tad predictable at times and this book was more about friendship than romance.
This is the first I've read by this author.
It was a nice read and I would be interested to see what this author writes next.
Thank you netgalley and to publishers for allowing me to read this early copy.
Thank you.

A super cute story of an unlikely friendship. A quick paced read which packs much more of a punch than the cover would have you believe.

However, my copy of this book had some formatting issues that made it a little difficult to read.

I was gripped by this story in parts, but I thought it took too long to get going in terms of pace. I skipped over some parts, especially during the second half, because I felt there was too much detail and to be honest I wanted to see what the outcome of the romance would be. That said this is not a romance. It is a story about friendship. Depression is covered in great detail. We also see how Ginny becomes stronger. I thought that her decision to just end things with Nick without talking through the kids issue was silly on her part. I also found there were abrupt scene changes which made working out what was happening at times a bit confusing. There are a lot of good things here, but not quite enough for me to give it five stars. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The book was an easy read. It is a story about a completely average woman living in modern-day London. Because of this fact, I really enjoyed the story as it seemed very realistic to me and the main character easily could be somebody I know.

The book focuses on the friendship between two neighbours who never met each other before. It shows beautifully what friendship is but also touches harder topics like depression and suicide.

I didn't have any issues with the book until around 3/5 of it. At this point, I felt like the author rushed a bit to the end and I got lost a bit in action of the story. Otherwise, I would recommend the book as a short simple summer read.

Advanced copy received thanks to NetGalley.

After a bit of a slow start to this book it turned out to be a great read. I'm sure there will be comparisons with Bridget Jones and the narration by Ginny gives it a feel of that. But it has a little more to it than an average chick lit book. The characters explore so many life issues within the pages, with some humour thrown in at times and great one liners.

One of the things I didn't like about the writing style was the author explaining what was happening without the preamble. It would work great visually but in a book I had to keep re reading parts, thinking I had missed something. So Ginny gets some notebooks - she's admiring them, where did they come from? Next paragraph describes her getting the notebooks from the person she was just talking to.

The book is more about Ginny and Cassie's friendship than the romances and I found this a refreshing change. There are some dark times in the book, which without spoilers is difficult to convey. Once I got to know Ginny and Cassie I found the book hard to put down and read about 3/4 of it in one sitting as I really wanted to find out what was to become of them both.

I'm giving this book four out of five stars.

The Neighbours was an unexpectedly poignant read! Ginny & Cassie have been neighbours for quite some time but don't seem to have much in common. Ginny is working in PR while working on being a writer, Cassie is an aging actress. Despite their differences - age being the most defining - they become close friends. Nicola Gill deals with clinical depression elegantly in this book. There are areas of romance but the main focus is the beautiful friendship between these 2 women. I would definitely recommend reading this one - if I had one criticism, it's a bit slow in areas but still worth the read.

Ginny strikes an unlikely friendship with Cassie, an older woman, a celebrity who is ruining her public image and is in need of a new PR person. Who's better then her neighbour who just lost a job, a boyfriend and needs some distraction (and money)? I was very pleased that in Nicola Gill's debut novel we do not follow yet another woman trying to find her love, but we concentrate on friendship between two women. Yes, there are heartbreaks, bad decisions and Tinder, but to me the relationship between Ginny and Cassie was always the centre of the story.

Ginny and Cassie are neighbours, they don't have much things in common, or so it seems. Once Ginny's life is turned upside down, after breaking up with her boyfriend and losing her job, she begins to spend time with those close to her and her neighbour. That's how they begin to form a friendship that shows them that they aren't so different.

While they are getting to know each other, they also discover things about themselves and what it's truly important.

In general, Ginny's decisions aren't always the best, I think she rushed through some things because she was feeling pressured.
As for Cassie, she seems like someone who has it all, but she is dealing some personal problems that are rooted inside her.

A wonderful sweet story of an unlikely friendship.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Nicola Gill’s The Neighbours is a fantastic entertaining new novel. Ginny Taylor, age 34, comes home from work suddenly to find her long term boyfriend cheating on her with her current boss. Suddenly, Ginny’s life spirals into unknown territory. She’s sharing a room with someone she’s never met, she’s out of a PR job (after throwing plants at her cheating boss) and befriends the ex-famous neighbour, Cassie, downstairs in her flat. The Neighbours does an excellent job of following both Ginny’s story of job hunting, boyfriend finding and soul searching. Along the same time, readers get to know Cassie. A much older woman struggling to overcome a shattered working reputation, many ex-husbands and complicated sister. Ginny and Cassie’s stories are engaging, delightful, sometimes sad and ultimately make for a wonderful read. I cannot wait to discuss The Neighbours with friends in 2020 and keep Ginny and Cassie’s friendship alive!

A sincere thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had potential to tell a great story about female friendship, but it didn't get there. It's definitely too long. There are big stretches of unnecessary details and then a major plot point is skipped over. With one or two more edits, this could have been a better, richer novel. It's hard to tell if it was supposed to be about the friendship between Ginny and Cassie, or only about Cassie's life. She is an unlikable protagonist, and I didn't want to root for her to get her act together. Cassie on the other hand, was a deeper character and I wish she'd been further developed and featured in the story. I could have done without all of Ginny's romantic messes. I kept reading because I kept thinking it would get better but it didn't. I wouldn't recommend this one.
