This was a feel good read. It's a story about loss, love, forgiveness, sacrifice and second chances.

The writing was a bit jumbled around but it was readable.

I enjoyed this book

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. A Dozen Second Chances by Kate Field is a story about Eve Roberts, school secretary, new empty-nester who is about to turn forty. Once upon a time Eve had a hot boyfriend, an exciting career in archeology and plans to travel around the world, it all came crashing to a halt when Eve’s older sister overdosed and Eve became guardian to her two-year-old niece. The boyfriend left and Eve needing safety and security to raise her niece Caitlyn moved to a small town and trained to be the school secretary. When Caitlyn leaves for a year in Paris as an au pair, she gives Eve a collection of small cards Be Kind to Yourself vouchers that Eve is to fill out and send to Caitlyn. The history lecture Eve treats herself to for the first card leads to meeting her old boyfriend, Paddy Friel, who has a successful career with an archeology television show. Her friends and family conspire to keep them meeting up again, and Eve begins to wonder if she could ever trust Paddy with her heart again. I was excited to read this but unfortunately the formatting of the book on the version I was sent is wonky, with words run together and strange, choppy line spacing.
I tried for a while but I'm sorry to say I can't concentrate with these formatting challenges. I'll try to pick up a copy of the book when it comes out!
Thanks again for letting me try this!

This was such an empowering story. It tells women it's never too late to turn things around. It was so well written it feels as if the reader is there. Wonderfull book!

I loved this book, it was such a light-hearted, easy read. The pace of the book was just right.

The archeology fascinated me, how something that has been underground for so many years can be dug up and still be in good condition !
Similar to Eve’s love for Paddy really, it had been hiding inside of her for many years but when Paddy surfaced again, it appeared, it needed brushing down and a bit of tlc .

I especially loved the quote ‘in my day, ladies had curves not angles’.

I will definitely be reading more books by Kate Field.

Thanks NetGalley and One More Chapter for the ARC. "A Dozen Second Chances" comes out February 6, 2020.
"A Dozen Second Chances" follows the story of Eve, a woman who when faced with her sister's death decides she will raise her niece as her own and in the process loses her boyfriend. Now years later, her niece is grown and who does she bump into? The boyfriend who left all those years ago. Is he worth another chance? Or do his actions all those years ago still ring true?
Field does amazing work bringing this romance to life without being cringey. I feel like that's something you don't often find when reading romance books, but this was an exception. There was nothing in this book I needed to skip or made me uncomfortable.
I also loved the characters in this book. If given the chance, I usually lean towards the Eve type character. Playing it safe seems like the smart choice most of the time. But characters like Paddy remind us that life isn't all black and white. Sometimes we need to take some risks. The only thing that didn't quite feel right was the ages of characters. Eve and Paddy always felt younger to me than they were supposed to be.
All and all, I greatly enjoyed this book. 4 stars from me!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. I enjoyed this story of Eva getting her life back after her daughter moves out. It was a bit on the slow side although I didn’t really see the twists coming. An enjoyable read

Eve is a very selfless woman who at a young age put her career and plans on hold to raise her deceased sister’s young daughter Caitlyn, a decision she has accepted with few regrets. Now Caitlyn has grown up and moved on she encourages Eve to do the same with some ‘Be good to yourself’ vouchers. I really liked that Eve didn’t feel the need to do monumental things to be good to herself, just little things overall that gave her a lift which I guess is something we all should do. I think the vouchers combined well with her impending ‘big’ birthday to make her think about her own future and her story was well told. I liked the characters overall however I adored Eve’s gran Phyllis who was a hoot and I thought this was a really thoughtful uplifting read.

I've been trying to get into this, but I just cannot get into the book. I don't know why, because the summary sounds amazing, but it just doesn't grab me.

This was a cute fun read. I enjoyed the characters and the story. It slowed down like halfway through but it eventually picked up. Not sure if I'll read this Author again but I won't rule it out.

This was the first time for me to read a book by Kate Field. I had high hopes for this book considering that the plot seemed exciting. First chapters were very full of events but unfortunately quite fast, the book started to be a bit boring to my taste and maybe way too serious. I wasn't expecting a story like that and so I was disappointed and i really struggled to finish it. I give this book a 3 stars out of 5 because it's not bad, it's just not what I was expecting.

I was attracted by the blurb and really wanted to like this story. Unfortunately I found it too slow and it didn't keep my attention.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Thank you to Harper Collins and #netgalley for letting me read and review A Dozen Second Chances by Kate Field. This was a lovely romantic story about a woman getting another chance at love after being selfless for many years. I loved the setting, the story, and the characters.

When you are young, you have an idea in your head about the way you would like to live your life. But the path you have chosen for yourself is not always the one you travel on. Devastating events might force you to take a back road and although you are happy, you don't know if you might not have been more or less happy ...

When things start to settle down, a blast form the past suddenly appears and turns everything upside down again. Is it for the best or does it make everything worse?

I totally adored this book. It made me smile, but it made me sad too. A romantic story is not only about love and living on cloud nine, but there is often a lot more depth in them too and more serious matters are discussed.

This story has everything I like about this genre. You often see twists in thrillers or mysteries, but there is no reason why this should not occur in romantic stories either.

There is only one reason to find out which ones the author has hidden in her book ...

Top score for this story : 5 stars.

Thank you, Kate Field and Rachel's Random Resources

I really enjoyed the positivity of this book and the empowering yourself by being kind isn't always easy but it's the main challenge of the protagonist in the story. Eve has a daughter that goes off to school and is left with an empty house and doesn't know what to do now that she has to put herself first and live life again. Her daughter gives her 12 "be kind to yourself" vouchers and that is the story;

This book is believable, heartfelt and empowering and something we should all strive to do for ourselves. I like this a lot more than I thought I would and highly recommend it if you want a change from mystery, suspense and thrillers.

Thanks to NetGelley, the publisher and Kate Field (author) for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The plotline sounded very interesting when I requested this book.
And I am very grateful for getting a copy of it. But it was very bad, an unedited version with sentences and words together that just took away the enjoyment of the book. I had to struggle to read it and finish it.

I picked this book because it had an older main character...ha 40 being older. The idea of a woman putting off her dreams to raise her child is very real. This happens all of the time so I looked to see where this took me.

I liked the idea of a daughter pushing the mom to go out and fly -it was her time... but I did have to work to finish.

A Dozen Second Chances is a wonderful book full of wonderfully deep characters. I loved Eve, and the depth that was given to her. She is a mother, first and fore most, in the story but she is also a very flawed character. She isn’t perfect but she was the perfect character for this story. The other characters all had a depth to them that made them feel real as well.

They had problems and dealt with grief and made me laugh. They felt like real people and I loved it all at the same time it made my heart hurt for these characters and everything they had been through.

The way Kate Field writes makes you feel like she is an experienced storyteller. I haven’t read any other books by Kate Field, but this one makes me want to read everything she’s ever written.

This book also dealt with heavy topics, like grief, in a very sensitive way. I loved that no one told Eve that she couldn’t grieve for her sister no matter how long it had been, as I’ve seen this in other books. I felt like this book was very powerful in how it dealt with the topic, proving that while it is possible to love again, you may not love the same way after loss.

The plot in this book was also perfectly paced and felt like you actually went on a journey with Eve over the course of several months but rather than feeling too slow, like some romances tend to do, this was the perfect pace.

Overall, I gave this book four and half out of five stars. I loved every minute of reading it and I hope that you will too. Make sure to pick up it up when it comes out on February 6. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

The main character, Eve, was not particularly sympathetic. She had a lot of things happen to her which were supposed to make us feel bad for her but I couldn't stand how passive she was.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

As a mom in a similar age and space as Eve, this book was just so sweet and relatable. It's like a snuggly Hallmark movie in a book. I really enjoyed the relationship that Eve has with her family and Gran was such a perfect lighthearted and fun addition to the story. She reminded me so much of the Grandma in the Stephanie Plum series with her pluck and wit. A Dozen Second Chances is a heartwarming story of personal growth, finding who you are after giving everything to someone else and learning to be happy. Perfect for readers who want romance, but not the steam.
