Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
While I do think this is an enjoyable enough story that children would probably enjoy, that’s pretty much all it was for me: an enjoyable enough story. I like children’s books with a deeper meaning that make kids think. Sadly, this book just didn’t do that for me.

This was super cute! I love how all of the different 'storytellers' are depicted and seeing the resumes at the end was such a nice touch. The ending was peaceful, happy, and cute and it just warmed my heart so much!

Such a wonderful story that showcased some very memorable fairy tale characters. The writing was great for the age group and the imagery was lovely. A happy ending for Shailey and her Dad.

Although shorter than I would have liked, Help Wanted, Must Love Books was a lovely story that I enjoyed reading to my daughter.

We really enjoyed this one!
A kiddo who loves their bedtime stories knows that the reader of those stories must meet certain qualifications. When the favorite reader is unavailable, no other will do!
The stream of applicants made my kiddos laugh and the resumes were comical.
As a parent, the subtle message also drove home that it's beyond important to put everything else aside and read ALL-THE-BOOKS with my littles.

Adorable! Absolutely loved the characters, loved that she fired her own father because she demanded more from him, loved the interviews and the changing job specifications as she narrowed what she was really searching for. Adorable, adorable, adorable!

HELP WANTED, MUST LOVE BOOKS by Janet Sumner Johnson was a delight to read. It's going to make a fun story time pick. It's the type of picture books I love to share with my students: using humor to express frustrations. Looking forward to release day so I can add it to my library.

Incredibly adorable but the plot was a little too simple and the examples were interesting but I would have loved ten more pages. Perhaps just a little more content would take this over the edge.

Now that dad has to work, Shailey is in need of a great bedtime reader. Who can handle the task? She posts a job notice and begins taking in applicants. Interview after interview, she is left despondent by each of them who themselves are famed characters from books but are horrible candidates for the job. Only one choice remains and it is the best choice ever: Dad, with conditions. Vocabulary makes this more enjoyable for middle-grade readers. 3-stars. #JozefSyndicate

an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
What an adorable book! I loved how classic fairy tale characters were woven into this book.
Such a cute tale about a little girl whos father is the nest at reading and sharing bedtime stories with her until he gets a new job which leaves him too busy or too tired to share these books with her at bedtime anymore, so the girl sacks him and starts looking for a replacement.
We 3njoyed every page of this book and the job applications at the back were very funny too.

This was a cute and original story about a young girl looking for someone to read her a bedtime story when her dad becomes too busy with work. It was quick and could create good opportunities to ask kids about the other book characters that appear in the story.

I was provided a complimentary copy from netgalley.com to read and review.
Help Wanted, Must Love Books is such a cute fun story with colorful illustrations about a young girl named Shailey looking for someone to help read all her favorite bedtime books when her fathers work begins to interfere with her routine .
She then proceeds to hold interviews with classic nursery rhyme characters hoping to find one that fits into her reading expectations but doesn’t have much luck, Until the end when the very best reader comes to her rescue.
A great beginning,middle and end.
5 stars!!

I simply must have this book! So adorable! I love all the fairy tale characters and cannot wait until this book publishes so I can read it to my class!

Thank you NetGalley and Capstone for providing me with an ARC of this book. I absolutely enjoyed this. I had a few laughs as well, as I was reading the resumes of some of the characters. The book was entertaining, simple, easy to read and engaging. The colors were vibrant and Shailey was bossy and cute and simply knows what she wants. She is definitely going to be handful when she grows up, that's for sure. Shailey is smart and amazing. I loved her confidence and creativity. The book is just a fun read for small kids and I would say a lot of the characters were from fairytales and other stories. It is a fantasy book in my opinion with a great cast and a strong, confident girl leading the story. I absolutely adore this story. I have given it 5 stars and definitely will be looking for a copy for myself o that I can share it with my kids. I highly recommend checking it out.

I received at e-ARC of this book and I’m ordering one for my children ASAP. This book is hilarious, yet also brilliantly shows the importance of reading books to your children and how much they cherish that. It’s real because as parents we sometimes get overwhelmed and busy and might brush off reading to our children or cutting it short. The main character misses her dad’s Storytimes and gets some interesting applicants. Will she find the perfect one? I love this picture book and I know children will love it to. A perfect bed time story!

This is such a cute picture book featuring a father and daughter struggling to find the perfect balance for evening story times. The daughter places a help wanted add for a bed time reader and classic story book characters appear, but none of them quite fit the bill. Kids and adults will enjoy pointing out all of the characters.
It'll make dads everywhere want to sit down and read a book to their kids.

This was a cute story. I'm not sure if some of the younger kids will recognize every character that was featured but it was definitely nostalgic. There were some words that kids would not understand that require extra explanation.

#HelpWantedMustLoveBooks #NetGalley This is one of my new favorite picture books. I love the introduction of all the other characters and how her job posting changes throughout the book.

Cute picture book about a little girl who usually has story time with her dad at night, until he gets a new job and has too much to do! She posts a job ad for new storyteller and all her favorite fairy tale characters come to apply.
I'm always eager to find diverse picture book protagonists for my kids, and Shailey was great. My 4 year old has nighttime stories as her devoted one on one time with her dad, so she could definitely connect with her, as well as the fact that he (for work) has to be busy on his phone sometimes when he should be focusing on her. The characters that come to apply for the job are mostly not named, so you can guide your child in guessing who is who (the woman who falls asleep midstory is Sleeping Beauty, for example). There's some extra material in the end that's pretty wordy (the job applications), and my daughter wasn't interested, but that's a good sign of a book growing with your child.
Overall it was cute, and the illustrations were charming. I wish the fairy tale princesses were pictured as more diverse, but otherwise it was very nice.
I was able to read a copy of this book at no cost through NetGalley but my review and opinions are wholly my own.

Shailey is the main character, and she wants one thing: to be read to at night! Her dad used to do a great job of it, but then he got a new job and much to Shailey’s disappointment he wasn’t able to keep up his high quality rocking chair story time.
This girl is a go getter, so she puts an ad out and interviews a true cast of characters to fill her dad’s shoes. The applicants are unnamed but through looking at the pictures and reading the storyline, young readers should be able to determine most of their Fairy Tale literary connections. No one makes the cut until dad returns again, this time committed to giving his undivided attention to their bedtime routine.
I liked that the child in the book loved reading and valued her read aloud routine so much. I think all parents (and children) can learn from Shailey that parent-child bonding with a book is a crucial social-emotional connection. Not only is it imperative to show them you care, but it builds oral language and reading skills. I also appreciated that this book represents minorities and different family structures because we need more opportunities for diversity to be seen in texts. Of course I also think the Fairy Tale aspect of the book is a great talking point for children/students, and this could definitely be used as part of a unit. I think that some of the inference may be difficult for children who aren’t familiar with the fairy tales, but the story will still make sense.
