This is hands down the most adorable book I have read in years! It is such a great reminder to parents that our kids need a little bit of attention from us each day, and also that the routines we set for our children shape who they are and how they thrive as they grow. Sadly, my children are too big for this book, but I do have a few nieces and nephews with birthdays shortly after the release date and they will most likely be getting this book as their gift from me this year.

If you're ever looking for incredibly cute bedtime stories, look no further than <em>Help Wanted: Must Love Books</em> by Janet Johnson. Not only does this book just speak to me on a deeply personal level, it is all kinds of wonderful, sweet, and adorable. Young Shailey, perhaps unlike most kids, absolutely <em>loves</em> bedtime. Why? Well, because she has the best storyteller dad in the world to curl up with her and read the most amazing books, complete with spectacular voices and everything! But when her dad gets a new job, suddenly it begins interfering with bedtime so much that Shailey has no choice but to fire him. And thus begins the search for someone new to fill the job.

As Shailey posts a job listing and begins to interview a number of different potential bedtime story-readers, it quickly becomes clear that the search is going to be harder than it seems. She cycles through a number of well-known fairy tale characters who apply for the job, very nearly offering it to Sleeping Beauty until she falls asleep right in the middle of the story. The book cleverly offers brilliant reasons for why each applicant is unqualified, leaving Shailey feeling rather dejected after she's gone through quite a few prospects.

And then Robin Hood arrives.

I <em>loved</em>, loved, <em>loved</em> this book. It weaved fairy tales with reality in such a wonderfully honest and exciting way, quickly bringing a smile to my face with each turn of the page. It's a simple story, but it also brings up a situation that many kids might find themselves dealing with. The resolution was <em>perfect</em>, even bringing up a potential solution for a child who might be in this situation. And it was just one of the cutest stories I've ever come across for kids.

As a girl who <em>loved</em> books immensely as a child, I don't think it's really much of a surprise that this is one I would love to read to my future child and will definitely be on my shelf at some point in the future.

Help Wanted, Must Love Books is a cute picture book about a girl named Shailey. Shailey has an evening routine, the best part of which includes reading a bedtime story with her dad. Everything changes when her dad gets a new job and he doesn't have as much time to spend reading with Shailey. Shailey becomes frustrated, fires her father, and posts an ad to find a new storyteller. Despite numerous interviews with a variety of characters from popular fairy tales, Shailey struggles to find a replacement. In the end, Shailey finds the perfect storyteller and all is well.

The illustrations in this picture book are adorable. The vibrant, colorful illustrations drew me in right away and held my attention throughout the book. I enjoyed the expressive faces on the characters as well as some of the small details that made characters stand out. I appreciate that Shailey's "help wanted" ad was included and changed as the story progressed.

There are some humorous elements throughout the book, including the fairy tale resumes at the end, that may be lost on young children, however I think that adults will enjoy the humor while sharing this book with children. Children will enjoy seeing familiar characters from popular fairy tales throughout this book. They may also be able to relate to having a busy parent or caregiver that sometimes struggles to balance responsibilities. This book is a great, gentle reminder for adults to unplug for awhile and spend some time with the children in their lives!

I enjoyed the artwork and the colorful fairytale characters in this story of a girl whose dad gets a job and can no longer read her bedtime stories. She fires him and looks for another reader. She interviews Cinderella, the Giant, Goldilocks, and many others. Finally, her dad interviews, dressed up as Robin Hood. It's a sweet tale with some really fun illustrations. My 2 daughters loved it.

Books, father/daughter time, fairytale characters and a girl with SASS! What more could you want! I laughed and I cried, now I must purchase this book for my home library!

What a fun, clever book! A humorous picture book that many children will relate to. The voice is strong throughout. It would be a great addition to fairy tale units in class. The illustrations go so well with the text. I also thought the fairy tale bios were very funny. The adults reading the book to the child will enjoy it just as much!

What a sweet and fun book! Shailey loves her bedtime stories, and loves listening to her father read them to her. When Shailey's dad gets a new job that keeps him so busy that it interferes with storytime, Shailey starts interviewing for a new reader. Will it be Cinderella, the Gingerbread Man, or maybe the Three Little Pigs? You'll have to read this delightful book to find out who Shailey's new bedtime storyteller will be.

Ugh. Just adorable. Fun, sweet, and a protagonist who knows how to get the job done!

This is perfect for a family bed time read, it’s relatable and relevant, and its pitch perfect sweet. The play of the familiar fairy tales and why they wouldn’t fit the bill leaves lots of room for giggles or good hypothetical tangential conversations about which book characters would be good for the job and why... I could totally see a small project made off of this (make your own job description poster for a bed time reader etc) or just a fun class or bedtime convo or two:). Love that.

Also especially love that its a black girl and her daddy who reads to her each night. Precious.

It is a cute book, but doesn't explain how her dad is able tot come back, so easily.

Younger children will love seeing familiar fairy tale characters in this book and guessing who might turn up next, while older readers will enjoy reading the applications included at the end, and the humor through as Shailey searches for the perfect bedtime reader. Good humored adults will appreciate the reminder that bedtime should be focused time with their children, and not a time of distractions. An entertaining read that can prompt some deeper discussions.

Help Wanted, Must Love Books by Janet Sumner Johnson – By Janet Sumner Johnson I have to be honest this book may be my favorite in this list. Probably because it has a lot storybook characters that we all know and love who make cameo appearances. The illustrations are beautiful and it is the perfect bedtime story. This was a thoroughly charming children's picture book, full of sweetness, silliness, and a little bit of sass. Both of my daughters and I loved reading through it together. They especially loved all of the fairytale characters that made an appearance (while I personally loved the "appendix" at the end of all of their resumes). So many clever and creative things about this simple book. Would be a great addition to school and personal libraries.

Cute for kids who like fractured fairy tales. It though would not be my first choice to purchase for my collection. There are better fractured fairy tales I would acquire first.

Wonderful illustrations and an adorable story combine to make this an utterly delightful book. It is just so cute. I love the idea and think it is executed wonderfully.

This was a very cute little title that kids of that are just getting ready to read would fall in love with!! It would make a great bedtime story. With beautiful artwork this was one hit in my home with my kids.

Such a cute book! A little girl's dad is the best at bedtime stories, but he gets a new job and is too busy. She puts up a help wanted poster and many familiar storybook characters come to apply. Help Wanted,Must Love Books is a cute short story about a little girl who’s dad gets a new job that takes up much of his time. He becomes to busy to read her bedtime stories, so she takes it upon herself to find a replacement. I thought the story was very cute although used obvious well known characters which for some reason I did not enjoy.

I loved this book! Not only does it encourage reading and family time, promoting togetherness. but it provides an opportunity for many little brown boys and girls to “see themselves” not just imagine themselves in a story. However, this is not an everything comes up roses type of book. It also shows the struggle parents go through as they try to accomplish working and spending time with young ones. Absolutely priceless is the integration of characters from other children’s books as Shailey interviews a replacement for her Dad since his new job prevents him from reading to her each night.

The illustrations are very well done, the story line moves along well, and the combination of both will hold the attention of a child. I smiled the whole time while reading this book and would love to see it integrated into a library story time. This book is darling!!! Sometimes books about books can be iffy at best, but this one was so charming! I cannot wait to share it with my favorite young readers in the library!

Help Wanted, Must Love Books has a clever premise as it tells the story of a young girl who’s father has a new job and can’t read bedtime stories to her anymore. I thought the illustrations that portrayed the storyline were adorable. The writing, unfortunately, did not match the cute idea. While the pictures were engaging, the dialogue was not zingy or funny enough and lacked plausible explanations.
I thought it was out of nowhere to add the storybook creatures as a potential replacement for the father’s bedtime story job, as there was no foreshadowing of their role in the story.
While the story didn’t meet expectations, children will definitely immerse themselves in the illustrations.
