As a speech language pathologist, I am always looking for books to help convey certain language structures or concepts. I just love this book, as it is a book of ilIustrated idioms. So many children do not understand non-literal language and this book will help convey those concept. It explains the meanings of many different sayings to the reader that they may hear from older adults. It is great for young kids of all ages. I love the Illustrations in this book, which is the most important visual language. It is a fun and fast read. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for a pre-publication ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved the idea for this! The illustrations were beautiful, but I did have a problem with one: Let the cat out of the bag. It was a little too much. I understand the need to adequately convey the idiom through imagery, but I also think it sends the wrong message to kids. We shouldn't put animals in bags and tie them up, not even as a joke in a children's book. I feel like this could have been depicted in a better way.

My second issue with this book was the captions. They're upside down. Do you know how difficult it was to continuously flip the book over (impossible on an iPad that keeps adjusting the screen), to read the descriptions for the idioms? The idioms themselves were short and to the point, but the upside down portion (explanation and example) were a lot longer. My son was also frustrated because he wanted to look at the pictures, and I had to try and angle the book in a way that would allow me to read the captions. About halfway through I stopped flipping the book over and just gave my own explanations. I think it was a lovely idea that could have been executed better.

An interesting concept. Each page features a picture portraying an idiom. Ex: goosebumps. The child need to figure out what the idiom really means. The pictures are fun, but I’m not sure if young ones will get it at first.

We loved this book - my husband and I. Our son enjoyed the pictures with puzzled looks at his parents for why are they laughing. He kept demanding a story while we giggled at the witty ways of explaining idioms to kids. Or rather demonstrating their direct meanings to adults who use them daily without thinking what they really sound like to kids.

I can imagine this book is a perfect road to a thousand WHY questions for those with slightly older kids who will take up these idioms in their further speech.

It's a fantastic way to teach and demonstrate.

Also, the birds are super cute and memorable characters. Wish there were further stories with them - my son would utterly enjoy their adventures in "a real story."

PS not that it's intended for it but I think this book makes for a funny present for someone's boss or a colleague. Say, someone who's prone to adding an idiom to every thought spoken.

Birds of a Feather is such a fun book to introduce children to idioms! Though as adults we may use them with children without even thinking that they are taking what we say literally! This book does a wonderful job with awesome illustrations and explanations of each idiom! Children will learn what it really mean to have Butterflies in your Tummy and Ants in your Pants!!!

This was such a fun collection of beautiful illustrations to children understand the meaning behind a handful of common idioms such as "Ants in your pants", "Bull in a china shop", and "Raining cats and dogs". I can imagine that this book would be a popular classroom or daycare read. I found each and every page to be delightfully funny, and i will certainly be recommending it.

This colorful book uses entertaining illustrations to teach the meaning behind idioms such as "raining cats and dogs", "no spring chicken", "butterflies in your stomach", and "wild goose chase". I enjoyed this book and believe it would be most popular among children ages 5-8.

Thank you #NetGalley and #VanitaBooks for providing me with #BirdsOfAFeather to read and review!

Beautiful illustrations, adorable book. The little blurbs about the origin of each idiom helped turn the book into a language arts lesson.

Good:

Simple and colorful illustrations of common idioms. I liked the imagery for, "Look what the cat dragged in." and a "A wild goose chase."

Explanation page at the end about what an idiom is.

You have to flip the book to read the explanation and example sentence that goes with the idiom.

Bad:
May find it offensive that the idiom illustration depiction of a "Wild goose chase" the police officers are pigs.

You have to flip the book to read the explanation and example sentence that goes with the idiom.

Recommend?
Yes, it's cute and I love it already. Learning about idioms in school was my favorite part of language arts.

This is a cute book with silly illustrations. I love this book! The pictures are beautifully illustrated and depict scenes of common idioms in the English language. This book is a perfect example of making learning fun for little ones. I have no doubt they will be laughing out loud while learning that not everything in life can be interpreted literally. Recommended for early readers.

This is an adorable book that introduces children to idioms in the English language. The illustrations are colorful and funny and include a literal interpretation of the idiom. Upside down on the same page is the true meaning of the idiom. This is a fun and entertaining read and a great introduction to popular idioms- hogwash, raining cats and dogs, ants in your pants (my favorite lol), and many more.

A cute book of idioms. All of the pictures show what the words might mean if taken literally, while upside-down in smaller letters you get the actual meaning of the idiom. The idea for this book is great.

I will say it's probably one you want a physical copy of (as most kids books should be read), because I had a hard time reading some of the words at the bottom on my computer as they were so small.

I would highly suggest this one for young readers learning about idioms. This will make it fun.

4 stars.
This was very clever! Every single one of these expressions I have heard hundreds of times in my life and im sure alot of others have too, including probably your kids. If they are anything like me they will hear these and think, 'huh?'. So to explain what adults mean when they talk this 'gobbledygook', and to place it all in a very well done picture book, is really a genius idea. With the illustrations being so colourful, this is sure to appeal to children of a wide variety of ages.

Interesting way to introduce idioms to kids. Illustrations of literal meaning of the idioms and and explanation of it are given. Good illustrations

Loved the drawings and content. However there are upside down parts and it was a bit small. On a tablet navigating to the upside down part took a lot of effort away from talking about rhe idioms.
