What a simple thought this is...do what brings you pleasure in life, and don't feel bad about it. But like most people, I find this hard. I don't have time, I don't have the energy, I should do something else instead...etc. But Cynthia Loyst writes that it doesn't need to be super difficult or time consuming (if we choose), and we don't need to feel guilty for taking time to do what we love. I love these movements that have taken over - find a more joyful life, kon-mari your space - I'm not usually one to jump on these so-called "bandwagons", but there's something about simplicity and joyfulness that resonates with me this time around, which is why I wanted to read this book - I also really like Cynthia on The Social! And trust me when I say I'm working on this and decluttering my home, and man it feels great!

While Cynthia is first and foremost a relationship/sexual health columnist/writer, Find Your Pleasure doesn't only focus on those aspects. In this book she talks about finding pleasure with family, friends, in your work life, and home life. Plants make you feel happy? Fill your home with them! Want to lay in a hot bath for hours? Do it and lock the door so no one can bother you!

She writes about how women feel guilty taking time for themselves and how we stop doing the things we love for us becuase we've been engrained to feel this way from society. On Instagram I follow a lot of advocates (body positivity, equality, etc) and I'd say it's people like them and Cynthia Loyst that are paving way for a more accepting world a little each day, and I applaud them. Now excuse me while I go drink my coffee, and listen to Justin Bieber, because right now that's what brings me pleasure!

This was such a pleasurable read about pleasure and just the type of empowering book to start the new year and decade off with.

This is basically a how to guide on finding one's pleasures in life, both in the big as well as the small things. Some things were great suggestions, others not so much (for example I could not relate to the chapter discussing having children for I have none). Overall, the premise was warm and uplifting. We waste so much time on what goes wrong throughout each day, why not savor the sweet things instead?

An uplifting guide to finding your pleasure, whatever that may be. This is the perfect book for anyone needing a boost, those who like self help type books, and those who like Cynthia from The Social TV show.

Thank you Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for my copy and honest review.

Find Your Pleasure is a personal lifestyle book focusing on eliminating the guilt associated with pleasure. Through personal experiences and anecdotes, it focuses on finding pleasure in the author's own life and committing to make it a priority. Too often women are made to feel ashamed for embracing pleasure, whether at work, in the bedroom, or in the form of a simple cupcake. This book sets out to break down those stigmas and teach the reader how to welcome pleasure with open arms in every aspect of their lives, to live a more fulfilling life.

When I saw the announcement for this book I was immediately excited. I was unaware of Loyst's lifestyle website prior, but was definitely drawn to the topic of pleasure. First off, let me just say this book contains some absolutely stunning photos. As a lover of flowers, the shots made me swoon. Secondly, this was a great book to kick start the year, as I definitely want to focus on self-care and what makes me happy in 2020. I enjoyed the break down, as it is divided into sections for each area of life. With that said, I didn't find the content all that relatable, given her and I live extremely different lives. But the important message is to simply embrace pleasure. One thing I will definitely be taking away is the importance of 'unscheduled days'. Although this sounds counter-intuitive, I will plan these days into my calendar for 2020 on a regular basis.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read. If you resolve to show yourself some love in 2020, are a fan of the social, and/or love lifestyle and self-help books, then this is for you. Otherwise, it's just a gorgeous coffee table book.

A huge thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada for providing me with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
