I love books that deal with the practice of law and I love books that deal with family secrets. Put them together and I will pretty much read anything that has the two.

I loved that there was no clear "good person/bad person" everyone had good qualities and shitty qualities just like in real life.

This book was a great witty read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Rare Bird Books for this advanced reader's copy in return for my honest review. I couldn't get into this one. I found that because the characters were unlikeable, the book didn't draw me in as I didn't care what happened.

A meditation on the principles of behaviour, on ethicality; Russell's prose is flowing and engaging, whilst the story itself, although heavy on the didactic approach, is memorable and contemporary.

Jack Callahan is a lawyer in Raleigh, North Carolina who tries his best to move in all the right circles. It's a somewhat complicated story but told with plenty of wit giving the reader laugh out loud moments. But overall it failed to really engage me.

I'm not really sure what I think about this. I was confused many times and in the times that I wasn't it seemed like it was a tale of morality, but I guess it was left up to me to determine the morality of it and if it crossed the lines of my morality. It was hard to find characters to root for and while I don't necessarily need to like every character, having a character to like and root for makes me feel like there is a reason to read the book.

All this being said there were parts that I enjoyed, and characters actions that I could understand and sometimes appreciate. I had hoped to like and appreciate this book, but while it might be a "good" book for some, it was not a "good" book for me.

A somewhat interesting tale of morality set in the complicated story with lots of unlikable characters. This will not be for everyone, especially those that are seeking any players they will like. Didn't hold my attention throughout.

I really appreciate the advanced copy for review!!

ALL THE RIGHT CIRCLES is wise and witty, complex and compelling, and perhaps a bit confusing at times. John Russell has written a contemporary morality tale, but left the moralizing to the reader to sort out. A range of contemporary sins are exposed and we laugh and reflect as we encounter them, but it is sometimes difficult to determine who is the saint and who the sinner.

I loved the characters and identified with their challenges:
. . . . making it in business, and society;
. . . . doing the right thing for your family---and yourself;
. . . deciding how much is enough (money, frustration, love---take your pick)

This will be a book that thrives on discussion because I suspect every reader will see it through their own, very personal, lens. And, Russell has created a strong cast of characters---surely someone for each one of us to identify with. I loved the protagonist's mother---a liberal academic driven to both charm and antagonize the safe, stolid, stuffy southern society she chose to live among.

This is a memorable story that will stick with me for quite a while---I am not sure what to think, but I am thinking ! My thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I really had to struggle to get through this book. Too many relationships, way too many characters. I just couldn’t connect with apply where the characters.

I opened this book and fell into a malestrom of characters and dialogue that overwhelmed me. I rarely have that experience. It was difficult to see the relationships but once I did I found I had very little interest in reading about them. No characters can communicate in the never ending satirical quips and one liners that these do. The plot was predictable and already written about ad nauseam..
Legal shenanigans and adulterous affairs in a cast of unlikeable people made my head spin. I rarely want to put a book down but this one made me want to delete it before finishing. I can not recommend anyone willingly select this to cozy up and read.
