A boating accident resulted in Virginia being saved by Toby and Mike, but her fiancé died. Virginia’s father,a self made man, often through pushing others aside, had made a few enemies. He suspected that one of these enemies was responsible for the accident. Virginia was unconscious and even after recovering was depressed. Mike, who although was in a serious relationship discovered he had feeling for Virginia and gave up his girlfriend. Meanwhile in Virginia’s fathers house, Virginia was not recovering quickly so predictably her father contacted Mik who just happened to be a therapist to come and help. Kepler, her father had realized Cecil was responsible for Virginia’s accident and sent two of his guys searching for him. Cecil realizing his potential demise left his wife and just took off with no destination in mind. I found the characters had little depth and the writing simplistic. This book is not a page turner, but for a light read, acceptable.

An Empty Sky by Frank Drury

An empty story. Part mystery and part general fiction, this story was for me a real head scratcher. While some events in the story are pointless, other parts are good. The story just doesn’t gel as a whole.

Young Virginia and her boyfriend have a tragedy at sea. A hurricane is on its way, yet they go out sailing. Was the hit to their catamaran purposeful or an accident?

The girl’s father disappears for lengthy bits of time with no purpose, along with other gaps in the story creating a problem with continuity in the tale. On the other hand, there are endless details on what the character Cecil eats for every meal for days on end.

Several characters who had no real purpose are introduced, a minor character ends up being a major player at the end, and political events are woven into the epilogue. Some tightening up and rewrites would help this book go from meh to good.

This book wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be. It had a great concept and plot with a good character development but it wasn’t that engaging to me. I just couldn’t get into this book which is why I am giving it only 2 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book for my honest review.

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.
