Great little book to introduce kids to poetry. And the connection to nature, along with the art, was beautiful.

Ivy in Bloom is a wonderful book to introduce children to the world of poetry! The story follows an adorable little girl named Ivy on her search for spring! The use of poetry is cleverly used throughout the book along with the bright and vibrant illustrations! Included after the story is an awesome Bibliography of all of the poets and writers whose works were used to tell the story! A wonderful spring day read that will teach children about the seasons and the beautiful changes that take place when they change!

This is a lovely book. It is about a girl who can't wait for spring and later enjoys the beautiful spring days that come. It is beautifully illustrated with lines of poetry taken from several poems which are all included in citations at thee end AF the book, which is a great touch.

This was such a lovely children’s book. I found it very enjoyable, and very relatable seeing as how I live in Ontario, Canada, and we often have -50 degree winter days. This was a lovely story of a little girl longing for brighter days and warmer weather. The best part about it was that it was written using selected parts of famous poems. Featured writers include Robert Frost, E.E. Cummings, Charles Dickens, and many more. This was an absolutely stunning book filled with beautiful illustrations and I will be requesting that my local library look into purchasing a copy or two.

I love everything about this children's introduction to poetry. I love the illustrations and the concept of the author melding her words with words from famous poets to make a children's book. I love the fact that proceeds go to charity. I love that at the end of the book, credit is given to the poets whose phrases were used in the story, shown in the context of their original poem, and that information about the poet is given should the child want to explore further.

Four stars rather than five only because there were sections that did not flow naturally and seemed to be choppy or randomly inserted only to use a poet's phrase.

But I LOVE the concept of this book, all that it does, and all that it tries to do. Kudos Vanita Oelschlager!!

Many thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are strictly my own.

This book is perfect for today, when I am eagerly waiting for Spring but outside is the city covered in snow.

I think this is the perfect book to introduce little readers to some famous poets, but also have fun thinking about snow, spring and puddles. I really really enjoyed the illustration, the change of colors with the passing of time.

I think it's creative and it showcases the poems without representing the full poem, only a few lines that will get the kids curious - and the full poems are found in the book at the end. Plus, the lines used for each illustration form a full poems. This book could be described as a collage made of poems, accompanied by gorgeous illustrations.

Such a cute book.
I loved the illustration.
It brings a childhood memory, all the fun life and how as a kid there's nothing to be worried about.
You just go play out in the field, enjoying the air, flowers, and all surround you.
Just lovely :)

This book was very immersive with it's beautiful and eye capturing illustrations. The author takes phrases and verses from many different, yet exceptional, poets. This was a very creative way that would get any child to appreciate poetry. It makes a wonderful addition to any household Library. It's certainly a good book to sit down and read with your child as you prepare for Winter or even for the end of it.
Best of all were the references left under each picture. The names of each poet, dates for the poem itself and a few historical words. Which is another great way to teach kids, or anyone, how to really appreciate poetry.
A quick read but definitely a good one!

While I may not be this book's target audience, children will certainly greatly enjoy it. The poetry is very easy to follow, especially for younger readers, and it is accompanied by adorable illustrations that add to the loveliness of this little book.

This works both as a cute little picture book, as well as an introduction to poetry for kids. It would definitely make a lovely gift for a child.

It is a wonderful idea to have Ivy, a child character, introduce some of the best classic poetry to young readers. The illustrations are beautiful, and the poetry selected is top-notch. My young students would love this book!

This picture book is beautiful. I love every page of it. They drew every little things very well. I can see how sad and gloomy ivy was. In another page, I can also feel how excited she was when the spring came.

Not only the great illustration, the poetry are also interesting. I am not a big fan of poetry but they are splendid. In the end of the book, I found the reasons why. I do recognize some of those famous poets and writers.

I'd love to read more beautiful picture books like Ivy in Bloom

"Ivy in Bloom" is a Children's picture book about a girl, Ivy, that is too tired of winter and snow and is looking forward to spring! Given she is a lovely girl herself, she is singing a poetic song to her wish for spring!

The "Spring poem" quotes phrases from well known poems. For those that don't recognise them, the author makes them available at the end of the book. The author knits them together to form a new lovely poem that rolls smoothly. It is a great kind of poetry introduction to children, based on poetry by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Charles Dickens, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, E. E. Cummings,  Christopher Morley, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Robert Frost, Thomas Nashe, William Wordsworth, A. A. Milne, Robert Browning and the author herself!

The illustration by Kristin Blackwood is marvelous! The reader is really absorbed by the little girl that marches through the different seasons waiting for her favorite season! It really captures the eye and the details put in every page are adorable! For example I loved the monogrammed towels!

A story of a young girl enjoying the changing seasons, using selected verses from well-known authors.

Loved the bold, colorful artwork. The story starts in winter and is depicted in browns and grays. As the season’s change from winter to spring, the color gradually emerges until it explodes across the pages.

A bibliography is included in the back of this book that lists the author and works used to create Ivy in Bloom.

I received this Ebook via NetGalley for my honest opinion.
I read this book to my daughter who is 4. We live in Florida and she has never seen real snow, but knows she wants to go on a sleigh.
She was pleased at how beautiful the pictures was. She also loved when Spring finally came. It's her favorite season.
I personally was amazed that it was composed of different lines from different poems by some well know poets.
I give this 4/5 stars
