John Hodgman is often referred to as a "humorist," being neither fish nor fowl (not a stand-up, not famous as a comedic actor), and just as in his previous book, Vacationland, Hodgman absolutely delivers the humor in Medallion Status. The one-time Daily Show correspondent remains sharply witty and self-deprecating even as he shares Hollywood stories from his "slightly famous" days, but in Medallion Status, John Hodgman also reveals more of himself, flaws and all, with greater vulnerability -- and greater empathy -- than he has previously. Ultimately, Medallion Status is a glorious combination of dry humor laced with laugh-out-loud moments and unexpected wisdom and humanity.
Highly recommended. Especially the audiobook, narrated by John Hodgman himself. The narration adds a layer of intimacy to the book, letting the author tell his own stories.
John Hodgman is clever and funny. This is a fun read, but also one that makes some really interesting observations.
I love John Hodgman. His humor sits comfortably in my brain and makes my heart bigger. He's gentle and silly and ridiculously insightful, and I aspire to bring the spirit of his comedy into my life.
This book is delightful. I loved it so much that I got it in audiobook format, just because I wanted to hear his voice tell these stories.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Medallion Status. I adored Vacationland and this is more of the same delightful humor and insightful critique of this very silly world we live in. The Judge John Hodgman podcast remains one of the most consistently funny podcasts around so if you like the books make sure you are listening and if you like the podcast you’ll love his books.

John Hoffman has now fully transitioned from quirky humor to deeply moving (but just as funny) non-fiction. This is the perfect followup to Vacationland.
Love, love, love! John Hodgman is such a gifted writer. As someone already obsessed with him, it was so great to read about his career. This book is funny, insightful, and heartfelt. For those who have yet to read anything by John Hodgman (wait, what??), I'd get started with his last book, Vacationland, and then dive into Medallion Status.
