Issues of trust abound in this novel of love that could be if only. McKenna has trust issues stemming from her mentally abusive, narcissistic ex-husband. Brodie had a problematic romance in his last job that led him to leave it and return to Marietta. Both need their jobs together on a ranch and love and romance might get in the way and ruin it for both of them.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“Her Cowboy Boss” (Tule Publishing) is another great story by Jeannie Watt, with amazing, realistic characters, emotions running deep and underlying implications about appearances, misconceptions and truth. There’s a lot of subtlety, nuances, fears and emotions in Brodie’s and McKenna romance
I loved the romantic couple, how despite of their reluctance to get involved, they’re honest with each other, admitting their feelings as well as their preconceived ideas.
What an improbable cowboy – but very believable and hardworking – a spectacled hero with a flair for the arts, the geeky kid who turned into a hunk.
McKenna is a strong, hardworking heroine, and her son, Josh, a pleasure to read as a fictional child who seems as energetic and sweet as a real toddler.
Great secondary characters, too, featuring in other stories, are essential to the success of the book. The descriptions of ranch life and work are vivid and not sugarcoated and make the novel even more compelling.

This story of Brodie and McKenna is all about overcoming preconceptions and hardships to be your true and best self. Brodie thought McKenna was a golden girl in high school and a bit of a princess - which she admits to. Yet she remembers him as a quiet gifted artist - that she noticed him is a surprise to Brodie. Years later she is a single mom of a 2 year old, has left an abusive marriage and is struggling to make ends meet having distanced herself from her family and it’s money. She bought a small ranch that was later devastated by fire and which she now needs to rebuild. To make ends meet she gets a ranch job .... with Brodie as her boss. They have a growing attraction but trouble is brewing as McKenna’s ex makes waves. In the end an accident cements their feelings as they both have to face that they don’t want to lose each other.

Three and a half stars.

McKenna Benjamin and her two year old son live on a small farm which was recently devastated by the fire which swept through their small Montana town. Her inheritance from her grandmother was enough for a frugal existence but won't cover the cost of rebuilding so McKenna needs a job, preferably something local. After divorcing her cheating husband McKenna's wealthy family were less than impressed and have cut her off without a dime.

She applies to work on the Marvell Ranch but is informed by the town gossip that the ranch manager Brodie Collins doesn't want her around. Brodie and McKenna went to school together, he was the class geek whereas she was school royalty. Brodie doesn't know why she's looking for work but the spoilt entitled princess her remembers isn't welcome.

Brodie isn't your typical cowboy, he still draws as much as ever and is studying photography. Although initially resistant to McKenna he soon realises she has changed and he comes to admire her work ethic, but can romance blossom when they work together?

I enjoyed this romance very much but felt it ended rather abruptly, the story had been quite slow moving and building up to a big confrontation which just seemed to be over before it had begun and we were straight into the epilogue. I wanted the ending to be drawn out a bit more.

The story of McKenna and Brodie.

They were at school together, but back then she was a spolit princess. Now they are working together and she can show him how much she has changed. She has her yooung son now, and is set on being independant and not needing anyone. She doesn't need Brodie, but she wants him.

Great read.
