This is not a genre I would normally choose and I have to say that this book didn't change my opinion. I couldn't get into it at all, I didn't like the whole gang storyline and thought it gave an unfair stereotypical view of life on a British council estate. I wouldn't recommend this book, sorry.

DNF. I really had hopes for this book. It's the first I've read from this author. The beginning was pretty good but towards the middle I was lost. I may read this again in the future but for right now, it just didn't do it for me.

I was surprised and had to go back and read previous pages because the plot did twist and turn and I didn't see it coming.

Ugh. This unfortunately did nothing for me. From the goodreads synopsis, which I realize now is what I read, and which differs GREATLY from the one here in Netgalley, I was expecting more of a psychological thriller along the lines of - why does she not remember this child? Who is he to her? Is she going crazy? Is someone trying to make her think she is?

“Lights blinded her in an eerie white flash. She yanked the wheel as she felt the impact from the car behind her. There was a sharp pain, and then a bang in front of her, and after that nothing but darkness.

Holly Kendal is trying to put her painful past and broken marriage behind her and focus on her beloved son, Milo. But while driving him home on a dark February night, Holly loses control on the rain-slicked tarmac, and her car spirals off the road.

I just didn’t care, and honestly I felt kind of tricked by the synopsis I had read - even though there’s nothing untrue per ce in it, it paints the picture of a very different kind of narrative.

The “accident”, the child’s appearance and even who the child was, was resolved quite early, and the rest was more crime/family drama and wasn’t really interesting to me. I kept loosing track of who was who, and how they all related within the crime families.

The actual story itself wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t a good fit for me - the synopsis immediately pulled me in, and I wish the book had continued with that.

Unfortunately this is a book which I could not finish. I have to add that there is nothing wrong with it- I just wasn’t pulled in and found I lost interest.

As a result- I haven’t posted public reviews because I do not think it is fair on the author.

Great read. I really enjoyed this book and the suspense. I will be watching for more books from this author. Thank you for the opportunity to read this one.

The Forgotten Child started off intensely but in the middle it really dragged only to be saved by the ending. Thank you Net Galley, HQ Digital and D.E. White for the chance to read this book. When Holly and Milo were forced off the road it was so scary and full of suspense. When the second child showed up I thought it was a ghost story but it turned out to be one of the many twists in this book. I liked Holly’s character as she was tough and spunky yet a loyal and loving mother. The other characters didn’t really hold any appeal for me. Perhaps more description might have drawn me to the, but I just didn’t like them. This story had many twists and I love that in a book. I found that it dwelled too long in the gangs and criminal world. We needed to know where everyone came from and what their place was but I found it took to long to get through that part. The ending was awesome and suspenseful. If the centre had been better this would be a great book. For me, it was ok with some good parts.

This story started out amazing and spiraled downward from there. What started as a chilling mystery/thriller turned into a confusing crime drama focusing on a large cast of characters belonging to an organized crime family. Somewhere along the way, the focus of the story shifted and my interest waned very quickly. Organized crime is just not a topic that interests me in books and it was a very heavy theme throughout. Not my favorite.

A different kind of thriller that is not necessarily what you'd expect from the synopsis. A woman trying to escape her past gets drawn back into her family circle by circumstance. We find out quickly that her family is Family with a capital F. DE White sets an original story inside an organized crime community and then turns the imagination loose. The title Forgotten Child could be the child found at the site of a car crash or could be our main character. The story line plays out with many clues that will mislead the reader into thinking you know what will happen next, only to find out you missed something a few pages back. Again, this is not a typical mystery/ thriller, but is definitely a good read.

I found this story to be very boring and the characters unlikable. I could not connect with any of the characters.The story was more Organized crime not psychological thriller. If you like crime/ mob/ human trafficking type stories then this book is good for you. The blurt sounded really good but it is not what the book is really about. I found it to be quite misleading. This novel is REALLY about Holly and how she can’t lose her connection to organised crime. Not about Holly regaining consciousness after a car crash and finding a random child in her car. Even though this happens in first chapter of the book , and we find out who the child is pretty quick. Then the rest of the book is all about Holly and her connection to organized crime. Which is not something I have an interest in. Had they been more honest in the description of this book and the title of the book it would have gave readers more of an idea what they would have been reading and probably less bad reviews.
The author also switched from past to present in such a way it was not easy to follow. There is also ALOT of characters to keep up with in the two crime families so get a notebook ready. It would have been more better if the anonymous child was more of a feature of the story like the blurb states. I wanted to read this book on the basis of the blurb. Sadly the two do not match up. I loved the start of this book , an accident then a strange boy in the back of the car . I got a bit bored with the telling of her past life and the rough estate life she had but then we found out more about the boy and I was hooked again .Great book , I will be looking out for more from this author .

I expected this to be a psychological thriller, but it was more about criminal activities and human trafficking.

Holly and her son Milo were driving in a dark road when they wete made to go off road by a car hitting them. When she became conscious, she found another child in the backseat who had a DNA link to hers. But she had no idea as everyone in her family were dead. The story moved on...

My first book by this author, I was excited with the initial parts of the story. They kept me enthralled and curious to know about the second child. But the book turned dark with human trafficking as it's concept which was not what I wanted to read at that moment.

The characters were pretty much unlikable, and the writing staccato going awry between past and present. My brain couldn't follow it easily. Organized crime was not my cup of tea, which was not told to me in the blurb. Found it to be quite misleading.

Overall it was an okay story.

A slow starter I was on chapter three before things picked up to a faster pace it was well written and I would recommend to others.

A slow burn of a thriller. It takes a chapter or two to really get going as backgrounds and circumstances are developed. There are lots of misleads and misdirection's but when the reveal came it was well worth the wait. The end of the epilogue makes me wonder if more books are in the offing, if so they will be on my pre-purchase list.

Quite a quick start book, driving along with her son in the heavy rain when a car behind is tailgating to a point she feels he's almost in the car. Suddenly the car behind Holly ran into her she didn't know what to think. If anything because of some texts she had been reviving of her ex husband she wouldn't put Anything hat he Boulder be behind it, even though he was out of the country at the time, she still didn't trust him. The car hit her agin, her son just shouted mum watch out a deer in front, Holly braked and was sliding over the road, she lost control, she went down a embankment eventually when she dies finally stop she can see her sons hand, she struggles to get out of the car to check him because he wasn't answering. When she saw him on the back seat unconciese but he was breathing. Then suddenly she saw another child on the other seat. She had no idea where this other child came from. Holly had tried to put the past behind her, yet someone was trying to bring her back to her past life, it's a intriguing book, with lots of twists and turns surprises coming out of nowhere. Whoever was behind putting the boy in her car was ademamt to. Drag Holly back into the past. A worthy read win unexpected turns definaly reccomend this

Different from what I'm use to reading but the first few pages had me hooked and wanted to see what was about to happen. If you want crime, mobs and suspense this one is a must read! Definitely a page Turner. I wanted to add there are some spelling errors in this book. Like Holly the main character has come across as Holy. Just little errors but still kind of annoying.

Excellent thriller. Kept me up late reading to find out what was actually happen! I love a good missing kid story and this one does not disappoint!

A captivating story-line and a brilliant read!

Daisy White has delighted me with this clever and gripping contemporary psychological thriller. I was not prepared for the exciting and intense roller-coaster read this book inflicted on me! Although I had been expecting this to be more of a psychological thriller than it was, I was not in the least disappointed in this superb action-packed story about a community and family embroiled in drug dealing and human trafficking. Single mum Holly Kendal is run off the road and regains consciousness to find a mysterious child in the backseat of her car along with with her son. Who left the forgotten child and why?

The Forgotten Child was so full of drama and suspense that it had my heart racing and I was absorbed in the story from the start. Daisy White gave the reader a mixture of excellent characters, some of whom had appeal despite their flaws, though others were slightly less palatable and were meant to be scorned. Holly was strong, tough and edgy and I liked her enough to root for her throughout the story as the tangled and complicated connections in Holly's life were revealed and unravelled. This worked in retaining my interest and attention and I was never bored but instead, was lured ever deeper into this compulsive tale.

The book was a commanding read and the author’s talent made this a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for the entertainment it was. The ending was something of a surprise to me as I did not anticipate the conclusion.

Overall, I'd say that The Forgotten Child is a little gem and a book that I'm so pleased to have read!
