I still do not like Wendy much, she did not have much character development or so it felt like.
She just was whiny and childish. Hook felt uinteresting and boring, sometimes i wondered why he was there at all? Peter, Tink and Charming were funny and interesting though.

“The Navigator” by Erin Michelle Sky and Steven Brown was a sequel to “The Wendy” and was so beautifully done. It was twisty and original, but still kept the spirit of these beloved characters. Highly recommend!

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

I have elected not to read and review this book due to time constraints. Thank you for the opportunity.

This was definitely a fun sequel to the first book. It is still a fun retelling that is totally different than the original and it keeps you entertained. I am still rooting for Peter and Wendy in this and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

This just got old for me. It was like the first was good and this one not so much, I found it dragging.

What a beautiful sequel! I really wish I saw this series around more, it deserves much more attention.
I'm a fan of retellings, and Peter Pan was one of my favorites growing up. This is THE perfect retelling. Honestly, if you haven't read it just do it. The take on this book is so original while keeping true to the characters we all know and love.
There are so many twists in this book that I was surprised by every chapter. Some new characters make an appearance and I was so excited to read about them, especially characters that were neglected or misportrayed in the original version.
Wendy is the perfect female character. She is strong and fierce, and she makes smart decisions. At the same time, she's vulnerable and I loved that duality. Hook was my next favorite, and I loved reading from his point of view. I love villains and grey arcs, and I thought this one was gorgeous.
The writing was beautiful. I found it very musical, like every sentence danced on my tongue perfectly. It has that ol story feeling to it that I enjoyed.

So, if you've read the first one and loved it, chances are you're going to love this one as well. If you haven't, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone that loves adventures, retelling and great writing.

This is definitely an “under the radar” little fantasy series. I pretty much only strayed upon it after scrolling way, way into the backfiles on NetGalley. But man, I’m glad I did! I, obviously, love re-tellings, and “Peter Pan” is definitely one of the more rare ones, mostly because of how hard it is to get right, I think. But the first book definitely proved that the authors had a new take on the story, so I was really excited to pick up this sequel and see where things went from there!

Wendy has finally made it: she’s the navigator of a ship. Of course, no one but herself is very pleased about this fact and without the magical compass that only she can read, she’s fairly certain they would all toss her overboard at their first chance. But still. Challenges are still ahead, however. Not only must she continue to try to prove herself to this new crew, but loss and uncertainty await on the horizon as a war brews around her.

So, overall, most everything that I enjoyed from the first book continued on here. I love the twists and turns that the authors are bringing to a well-known story. There were several that took me quite by surprise. I was also pleased to see variations on other familiar characters make an appearance, like Tigerlija. It’s always fun to see new takes on characters like this, especially ones that had fairly minor roles in the original story (not to mention…um…questionable ones at that).

I also still really enjoy Wendy herself. Her story tackles a lot of emotional legwork with her struggles to gain the respect of her male crew. But she also doesn’t fall into all of the trope-y “strong woman” moments that can be seen everywhere. Instead, we see her have to become more vulnerable when confronted with unexpected losses that strike her where it hurts. She’s dealing with a war, after all, so I’m glad the authors didn’t shy away from the dangers and realities that that would present.

Hook and Pan, of course, are also still great characters. Hook’s POV chapters were especially interesting. It’s definitely a challenge to write chapters from the perspective of the villain of the story, but if done right, it can add many additional layers to the story and the interactions between characters. It’s hard not to like Hook, frankly.

Overall, I really liked this book. If you’ve read the first one, this is pretty much more of the same. Which, in this case, is not a criticism but a bonus! And if you haven’t read this series yet, but like “Peter Pan,” then I definitely recommend checking out these books. They deserve more attention than they’re getting!

Rating 8: Still a rollicking good time to be had here!

Will not be reviewing as I was given this and the previous book at the same time and DNF'd the first one. Thanks for the opportunity.

Giving a neutral rating as I have not read this one.

I wanted to give this a chance, however this one just wasn't for me at no fault of the writing-- the premise alone just wasn't up my alley.

DNF (Did not finish) Review

This book was, unfortunately, a bit too young for me. That does not mean that this isn't a good book, I just didn't enjoy it enough. The premise was really interesting and I love fairytale retellings. The characters are also really great, even if I'm not a fan of all the sexist comments. I know it's part of the time period, but it just annoyed me to no end.

I DNFed the first book in this series and so, I have not read this book as well so will not be able to review.

I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the authors, publisher and Netgalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Book two of The Tales of the Wendy does not disappoint! A fun read from beginning to end!

5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend!

As far as I'm concerned, re-tellings of fairy tales can be a hit or miss. The Navigator (and The Wendy) are one of few re-tellings I've read, which have been able to take the recognizable elements from the Peter Pan story and turned this into a total new story. Really amazing and a wonderful twist to the original! Wendy is a very stubborn, opinionated young woman, who is smarter than most of the crew she is working with. They (albeit sometimes a little reluctantly) turn to her for guidance and advice.
In all The Navigator is the second part of the story, where Captain Hook and Wendy go to Neverland. There is a lot more interaction with Peter and with Tigerlilly. However, this version is not for the faint of heart, because crewmates actually die and there is some cruelty along the way. So not your average children book. It is, however, a gripping story, which keeps you on edge during the whole journey. My only regret is that the story still isn't finished! So, now we have to wait for the next part in the series... Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

The second book in the Tales of the Wendy series did not disappoint, I could hardly wait for the sequel! The series is a Peter Pan retelling which is super engaging and creative.

I absolutely loved this sequel!

It's a strong and solid follow-up to book one, THE WENDY (which I also absolutely ADORED). Wendy Darling is back, and she's as strong, bada** and brilliant as ever! Plus, this instalment in the series fleshes out Captain Hook's character SO MUCH MORE -- he was always my favourite in the Peter Pan story, and getting to explore his slightly-kinder, more charismatic and incredibly dynamic personality was, for me, the absolute highlight of this novel,

The pacing of the plot is a little slow, but that just allows for more description and immersion into the world -- if you were all right with the pacing in book one, you'll definitely be fine with it in here; they're pretty equal in terms of pacing.

All in all, if you like Peter Pan, or you read and enjoyed Sky and Brown's THE WENDY, definitely pick up this title -- it's daring, it's adventurous, it's FUN, and it's a fantastic follow-up to the first book in the series!

What an amazing follow-up!

I found the beginning a bit slow pace, but it turned out an amazing adventure, on Peter's words.

Wendy is still brilliant and smart. But I have to give for Hook, who started treating her with the respect that she deserves.

Tinker is still a pain in the ass, just like always. I loved to (finally) meet Tigerlilja and she really gives me Lagherta's vibes.

Can't wat for the next one!

Thank you to Netgalley and Trash Dogs Media for providing me with an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All slightly less than flattering thoughts and opinions are my own.

I question a little why I came back to this series. I think the covers just draw me in. They're absolutely gorgeous, plus I wanted Hook. He's the most dynamic character of this series by far. They could probably write a series about him and I would be fine.

However, the rest of this just continued on like the first book. It was slow, the characters need a bit more fleshing out. Wendy is still the center of the universe for most of the men within a three mile radius. I just want more for her, she's not utilized to her fullest potential and neither are the rest of them.

Since this series seems likely to continue based on the ending, I have to say I am probably done here. I have other books that I want to read more, but I will continue to appreciate the cover and the concept from afar.

Clean Read; reimagining of the Peter Pan story told from Wendy Darlings point of view
I have to confess, I am late getting this review up, but this was a gorgeous re-telling of the Peter Pan story from a dynamic, adventurous, determined, couragious Wendy Darling. I haven't read the first book in this series, but was able to read this and enjoy this without doing so. However, that being said, I will go back and read it to get the beginning at some point.
This is an adventurous, fantastically detailed visit to Neverland, with the main characters you know and love, but from Wendy's courageously brave and determined point of view. She is a strong character, the setting is detailed and fantastically imagined, and the battles, worries, adventures and journey that they go on while tracking Blackheart's ship was intense, fantastical, and so well described! I am ready for the next adventure in this series!

I bought the first novel and it did not engage me. So, I was hoping that the sequel would make me like this book. It turned out that this series was not my cup of tea. Except the names, this series does not remind me of Peter Pan in any way. I think this series would be better off as an original story than asa retelling.
