Post-apocalypse themed books are very hit or miss for me - this was somewhere in the middle for me. The good: no major grammatical errors, plot moves smoothly, main characters are mostly decently created. The bad: too much tell instead of show, a lot of info dumps, and the "villains" were a bit cartoonish. Overall, a little torn on this one so rating it right down the middle at 3 stars.

The Last Crime Against Humanity is an apocalyptic story that though well-written, was, for me, somewhat long-winded and I thought the story could have been told without quite so much detail.

A virus has been tested in the Middle East. The aim is to destroy the West. But when the virus escapes, its spread is unstoppable, and within months, most of the planet's population has been destroyed. Communications networks are silent, the government, military and hospital staff all dead.

However, for reasons unknown, there are some survivors and the story focuses on brothers Steve and Clint, and the amazing Ashley, survivor of a violent husband, and a vicious attack. Fate brings them together, and along with those left alive in the surrounding area, they band together to pool skills and resources in order to survive.

But there is another group of survivors led by Mitch, who are sinister and intent on destroying others so they can keep any remaining resources for themselves. Book 1 ends with Mitch ordering his men to track down the rival gang. The suspense is such that I would definitely want to read the next in the series.

I usually love books about the end of humanity and all this survival thing... But this book did not really catch my attention . I would not say it was bad, it was just not for me, I was fully interested in the beginning, loving the premise ...but i lost interest throuhout the book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!

A virus has wiped out all but 1% of the population. There's only a handful of people left from random "groups." While the concept was intriguing, the book itself did not keep my interest. The writing just wasn't good. I wasn't able to finish the book, which seems to be a trend among the reviews.

It is very rare that I truly despise a book, but unfortunately this was one that just felt all wrong for me.
The premise was good, albeit a little unoriginal - a virus manufactured for bioterrorism escapes a lab and wipes out the majority of the human population except for the few that are immune. A pretty solid plot. Yet this was a massive disappointment.
The biggest issue for me was the blatant sexism. After escaping her kidnapper, the female protagonist is seemingly more concerned with his messy house than escaping and she actually puts this down to her being a woman (this had me shouting NOOOO out loud to my kindle). The first gun that she finds in the apocalypse? A pretty PINK one that she can apparently fit in her handbag. Who honestly would be thinking about what they can and can’t fit in their handbag at the end of the world and why does the gun have to be bloody pink?!?!? We, the readers, did not need to be told about how the cold made her nipples so hard that they hurt. It didn’t add anything to the story, plus none of the male characters were described in the same manner, so it is NOT needed.
I also struggle to understand why the hell we needed a storyline with an insane camera guy who wants to make the best porn in the world despite everyone being dead!? It was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever read and it felt like it was only added so there were more odd sex scenes. Weird.
To top it all off there were typos and grammatical errors throughout which, paired with the one-dimensional characters and wooden/unrealistic dialogue, just added to the disappointment.

All in all, it had a solid plot that was lost in the mess and sexism (it’s 2019, sexism isn’t needed). I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

DNF. I really like the concept of the story, but the writing style was just really not for me. I found myself struggling to make any progress on the book.

I would like to thank Net Galley for the advanced copy of “The Last Crime Against Humanity.” This is the first book in this series about the end of the world where a virus has wiped out all but a few handfuls of various groups. Starting with the virus killing most of the world population and then diverse groups coming together to figure out how to survive the new world. There is also a military twist that I’m sure will be tired in in the series. The book although long I found to be a fast read and was wrote very well. It kept me reading till the end where it finished wanting to read the next installment. I like this type of novel and am looking forward to Ray Willis future books in this series. I rated this book a 5 for interest and good writing. An enjoyable read if you like this type of topic.
