This was a very well written historical romance. It was very atmospheric and I felt caught up in the Battle of New Orleans. The characters were well developed and realistic.
Many thanks to Flowers and Fullerton LLC and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley and Flowers & Fullerton LLC in exchange for an honest review.

The Heart of a Spy is a historical romance set at the time of the Battle of New Orleans. Eva, hoping to be a Novitiate, is on a mission for the Catholic Church. Drago is a Privateer and former pirate, who is on a mission for the King of France. When their missions conflict, sparks ensue, as the Battle of New Orleans begins to rage around them.

This is a well written historical romance that will appeal to any history buff. Eva, Drago, and the surrounding characters are well written. The history is woven seamlessly into the novel. The action and adventure keep you fully engaged. If you love well written historical novels, you will enjoy this book. If you love History, especially American History, you will enjoy this book. If you love Christian books that contain history, action, and adventure, you will enjoy this book. I was thoroughly entertained and am hoping for a sequel.

Captain Drago Gampionetti had been a pirate and was now a privateer. He was known for his iron fist and the loyalty of his men.

Eva Trudeau was an orphan who had been exploited and then maimed by an evil man when she was a young girl. She hid in the convent and behind a veil to hide her scars. I won't give away the story but suffice it to say it was an epic drama, including part of the Battle of New Orleans and the pirate Jean Lafitte. The story starts in Jamaica and ends in New Orleans. I love Eva and Drago's story. In fact, I lost a good bit of sleep in trying to finish the book before work.

This is the cleaner version of this author's books in this series, which I would prefer to read. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

Sister Eva Trudeau was a novitiate of the Ursuline Convent. She is also a healer and a talented one. She had lived on the streets as a small child but been with the nuns for about nine years. Kalia was a healer for the Jamaicans and had the sight. She had given Eva a premonition about her future, she wasn't sure what Kalia wanted. She had a bad scar down one side of her face and people did not like to look at her. So she wore a veil instead.
captain Drago Viteri Gamponetti(Gampo) is a pirate turned privateer. His letter of Marque came from the King of France.
Two other spies bought the missive. The king wanted the bones of St. Louis of La Roche-Guyon and return them home.
The action and traveling begin. The author has written a thoughtful, action-filled, and whimsical novel. The characters are wonderful and very life-like. It was a very enjoyable read. I would be willing to go through it again for the thrill. I highly recommend this great book that is about the return of the English, again going to war with America and thank heavens, lose again at New Orleans. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for an eARC of The Heart of a Spy in return for my honest opinion.

I am so glad I read this book! The main characters are easy to like and well developed. The historical aspect of the Battle of New Orleans seemed accurate or at least believable (I'm not an expert in the battle). The "good v bad" even within the characters development is well thought out and easy to relate to/understand. I especially like the romance being heartfelt and richly written without the steaming erotic descriptions. It makes for an excellent read.

She is almost a nun and he is a former pirate turned spy.He is on a mission from the king of France. All this is happening while The Battle of New Orleans is unfolding. Not one of your simpering female characters,Eva holds her own in this romance.Strong, opinionated and so easy to fall in love with. This book is a good read with plenty of history holding it up.
