A decently written mystery/thriller. It kept me entertained, but I wasn't really invested in any of the characters. I would recommend simply for an entertaining read. Sometimes it feels like authors are working too hard for their "twisty" endings. This felt a bit that way for me. Though the twists worked, I felt that they "tried to hard" to be twisty.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers.

I struggled with the initial rating of this book. I ended up going with a 3.5 because even though this book had me compelled enough for me to want to continue to read, it still fell a little bit flat for me when it came to the story overall. ⠀

I enjoyed the dual timelines and each persons different POV as the chapters went on, but I felt like the husband was such a key to this book and would have liked to have heard him more throughout the book. Maybe even a chapter that had him talking from his POV on everything that’s been going on between these newly found sisters!? ⠀

Robin and Leslie were both great characters and I really like how they both had their own secrets from one another, because that kept me on edge on what it possible could be. ⠀

This book was easy to read because of its chapters and dialogue but at times I felt confused who the narrator was and had to regroup and go back and see or take my time to really connect with it. ⠀

I would recommend this book because it was a good read and I did enjoy it. ⠀

It was just a lot different then the normal fast page, gripping thrillers I am used to!!⠀

This was a dark story that reads like a literary fiction/thriller mashup moving between three POVs. It succeeds as a thriller - a truly engaging story with a great twist.

This book was SO much fun! I think it’s one of the best titles I’ve read this past year. I was completely blown away by the twists, and they just kept coming! I was left stunned at the end. Loved it!

This book really surprised me. I really enjoyed the start of the book, which flips between the perspectives of two women who’s lives meet. It was chugging along at a good pace and then WHAM, in comes a twist I did not see coming.

The end cranks the pace up to 100 and I just didn’t want to put it down. I would suggest this book!

The Better Liar is the debut novel by Tanen Jones. In it, we meet estranged sisters Leslie and Robin. An inheritance is at stake and Leslie must find Robin in order to cash in. Off she goes to Sin City (Vegas) to track her down, and what she discovers is more than she bargained for. She finds a body strewn across a mattress and decides to act fast. This is when the story changes. Leslie is in over her head when she decides to go through with the plan for, her and her sister. Along the way, she teams up with Robin, and things get out of control. It’s hard not to divulge more in the plot without giving it all away. All in all, it was a fast-paced thriller. There are times when the story fell a little flat, but by the end, it did pick up.

The Better Liar is a psychological thriller with plenty of twists. Two estranged sisters inherit money from their father on the condition that they both must be there at the same time. Leslie goes looking for her sister Robin that she hasn’t seen in 10 years only to find her dead and asks another woman to pretend to be her sister to collect the money. It is a sad twisted story with lies that unfold over time. Perfect for readers looking for twists and able to be comfortable with far fetched ideas.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Based on the title, you know that there are going to be liars in this one (right? that's not a spoiler?). There are chapters written by Robin, Leslie and Mary. Leslie finds her sister Robin, dead, of an apparent overdose in Las Vegas. She hadn't spoken to her in years, but needs to find her now because their father died and in order to claim the inheritance money he left, both sisters need to show up (alive) at the lawyer's office.

First, why is there no clause if one of them died? But that aside, Leslie decides that Mary, who she finds sitting on her car waiting for her boyfriend, looks enough like Robin to pass as her so they each can get their money.

Only Leslie is lying about why she wants the money, among other things. Mary has plenty that she's lying about as well.

This was very twisty and I didn't see the big twist at the end coming. I think the author tried to tackle a few real issues with this one but instead focused on making it a twisty thriller and the attempt to deal with issues was lost. The characters were all selfish and very unlikeable. A few plot lines were dropped and disappeared. A few things never got explained, but if you're willing to see through the plot holes, it's an entertaining thriller.

Who doesn't love the idea of concealing a death for an inheritance? A book full of twists, turns, and lies. The book was a fast paced ride, but I did guess the ending. For some people this might bother them, but since I read endings all the time to see if I'm guessing right I didn't mind it. Overall, I liked the book and would read more by the author.

Good page turner with many twists. Two sisters who've become estranged and a father who leaves $100,000 in his will to be divided between the two of them provided they both attend the meeting with his executor. The only problem is that one of the sisters is dead. The other sister persuades a stranger to pretend to be her sister in order to get the money. This leads to a series of events that keeps the reader guessing right until the end.

Leslie’s sister Robin left home more than years ago - but Leslie is forced to track her down when their father dies.
Leslie is dismayed to learn that she has to split their father's inheritance with Robin - and that the will specifies that both must share the money or neither gets a dime. She runs into a problem when she is too late - Robin is dead. So what to do now? Leslie really needs to money. That’s where she meets Mary - an extroverted, stunning, aspiring actress. Mary looks enough like Robin - and with a little coaching and a little makeover she just knows they can pull it off.
I liked the characters and the pacing but I guessed the ending - which takes a little wind out of the sails of a thriller. Overall the themes of corrupt family situation, deceit and greed kept me reading!
Thanks to Tanen Jones, Ballantine and NetGalley for the ARC.

This book is full of twists, turns, and surprises; and I so enjoyed navigating this awesome story as it climbed and climbed towards its ultimate conclusion.

The first half of the book had me on the edge as Leslie hit so many roadblocks and speed bumps while she scrambled to find Robin. What I loved most about this book is the continuous desire it triggered in me to see what would happen next and watching everything unfold in this amazing tangled web. It was so satisfying at every level. I will definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a page-turner!

When I first saw this cover I was hooked and I could not wait to read this book. However, as I started reading the book I was upset because the beginning of the story dragged to bad. I had to force myself to keep reading and that is really no way to read a book. I read half way through this book until I just could not really take it anymore and started skipping characters so I could be done with it. This mind-bending, psychological thriller was overall pretty good read. The premise of estranged sisters needing each other to be able to collect an inheritance from their father was a great draw. Overall, enjoyable web of lies and hidden agendas but not enough twists for me. Thanks NG and Ballantine Books for the advanced copy of this book.
