Oh I never get tired of books that keep me guessing until the end! At times, this one kept me having to reread as the characters switched so often, but by the middle I was onto the patterns and was still heavily invested in what was next.
I did not see the ending coming and while it was disturbing, it was in a good way!
Recommended for mysteries, thrillers and lovers of Gone, Girl and the like.

Such a twisted tale! Kept me recalculating as to what was going on until the very end. Nicely done.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book intrigued me at first (such a great premise), but I suspected the "twist" early on and never found myself really rooting for either one of the main characters. Then when the twist was finally revealed and when Leslie's reasons for what she was plotting were made clear, I lost interest. SPOILERS---------> I just don't believe someone wouldn't recognize her own sister, especially since they didn't part ways until adulthood. A nose job and dyed hair aren't enough to make me buy it. Also, Leslie's reason for wanting to abandon her husband and child (while sad) didn't quite add up for me--such an elaborate scheme just because she truly loves her wonderful husband and doesn't want him to know she's having issues with loving their child? Also, the events surrounding their mother's death were confusing, and everything was revealed in such a disjointed way.

When I read what the The BetterLier was about it seemed like a book I would like, one sister having to find the other sister in order to receive her inheritance. This book was a fast read and I was interested one how it was going to end, with a few twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Honestly, this book kept me right on the edge of my seat until the very last page! This author's debut novel was such a twisty, psychological thriller with a truly fitting ending. Two thumbs up!

I went through this book pretty quickly. Despite not finding the characters very likeable, I was intrigued by the plot. I suspected the ending in the back of my mind, but it playing out the way it was very interesting. The main characters were on the bland side for me, and I couldn't tolerate "Mary." Leslie had a few moments, I guess, but overall I didn't like her character much. I did like how her life paralleled her mother's tragic one and things came full circle in a way for Leslie. The ending was ambiguous to an extent which I am not a fan of - I also liked that the author addressed the problematic aspects of the ending in her note. Her efforts to shine light on PPD and women who wish to remain childless/are not prepared for children was valiant and relatable to women in similar positions but there is room for improvement on the way she tried to do so. I found myself cringing at parts of the book, at the excess detail and some of dialogue/lines with how fake it could feel. Overall, I did like the plot twist at the ending and the general idea behind the novel.

I really enjoyed this book. Leslie tracks down her long lost sister in order to claim their inheritance, and the mystery unfolds. Written very well, both sisters were unlikable so it was confusing which one you were rooting for but that only made the story more interesting.

This was a difficult book to finish. The characters were not very likable. The twist at the end was rather anti-climatic.

This was a suspenseful read that I ended up enjoying. It took a bit to get going but then there were little reveals that brought up more questions to keep me intrigued. The big twists were not what I was expecting at all. And then the end touched on a serious subject pretty well, actually. Overall, a book that many who enjoy suspenseful reads will enjoy!

Desperate to collect an inheritance from her late father, Leslie is searching for her estranged sister Robin who has turned up dead in las Vegas. The only way Leslie can get the money she so desperately needs is to bring Robin home with her but now that's impossible. Instead, she finds Mary, a charismatic free spirit who so closely resembles Robin that it's uncanny. A plan forms in Leslie's head as she asks Mary to go home with her and pretend to be Robin just long enough to get the inheritance. Mary reluctantly agrees, troubled by Leslie's desperation but driven by her own need for money.

This book started out with a great premise and some relatively solid writing but the plot twists promised in the synopsis were disappointingly predictable. Though readers will occasionally enjoy being able to solve the mystery ahead of the author, this particular story is so transparent and obvious that most readers will pick up on it in the first third of the book. Though I finished this book and finished it quickly, it was definitely disappointing.

The twists and turn had me stunned until the last page! I definitely did not see it coming. When a father of 2 girls dies and the inheritance can only be distributed with both girls present, one girl ran away at 14 and is now living in Las Vegas. The other is a working mom. When the story starts it is with a bang!

This book was immediately engaging. The characters were well written and I found myself liking both.
The book feels like it is constantly leading you to a dark place and at times I could not put it down.
I read it on my flight to Vegas and time flew! 😂
The ending was crazy in one of the most believable ways and I’m always able to predict them, but not this time.
I really enjoyed it!

This was amazing for a debut novel! It is full of suspense and twists and turns. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, another twist appeared! Leslie’s father died and left $100,000 to her and her sister Robin. Robin disappeared some years ago and Leslie has not been in touch with her. Both sisters have to appear together in front of the lawyer in order to inherit the money. When Leslie finds who she thinks is Robin, she finds a dead body who she assumes is Robin. At almost the same time Leslie meets Mary who has an uncanny resemblance to Robin. Mary is persuaded to impersonate Robin and she can keep half the inheritance. Leslie has secrets and Mary wants to find them. I liked the bombshell of an ending!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Leslie and Robin are long-estranged sisters. Growing up, Robin needed her older sister. And now Leslie needs to find Robin in order to obtain her inheritance. When we learn how far Leslie will go in order to ensure she can bring her sister home to meet with the family lawyer, we begin to question the reasons given for their estrangement. When we meet Mary it appears a third liar is brought into the mix. Mary becomes an equally guilty party in the charade Leslie is planning to obtain the money she desperately needs. However, as the lies become deeper and more intricate the liars are caught in their own maze.
Do twisted people lie or do lies make people become twisted? Does truth triumph, or do falsehood and deception rule?
A novel filled with twists and turns as the tale of two sisters unfolds.
