BLOODY GENIUS is the 12th book in John Sandford’s long running and intriguing ‘Virgil Flowers’ crime thriller series. This is a read that had the potential of being a great read until it lost its way and got a little sloppy towards the end. Virgil is investigating a murder in a Minneapolis suburb dominated by a college campus and its environs; armed with nothing but some odd, random clues. This was a refreshing break from the last few books, which had revolved around small town politics, gossip, and some ‘friendly’ backstabbing.

The story was a solid murder investigation, pretty straightforward and interesting. Around the 70% mark, though, a number of new characters and subplots were brought into play which muddied the main storyline. They eventually threaded together, of course; but it was all a little strange, and marked departure from the linear investigation and writing style of the earlier part of the book.

Overall, though, I’m still happy with Virgil and his world, whereas I’ve pretty much lost interested in Lucas Davenport.

Description:
Virgil Flowers will have to watch his back--and his mouth--as he investigates a college culture war turned deadly in the latest thriller from #1 New York Times-bestseller John Sandford.

At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of PC culture. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right?

Then someone winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate . . . and he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy. Among this group of wildly impassioned, diametrically opposed zealots lurks a killer, and it will be up to Virgil to sort the murderer from the mere maniacs.

My thoughts
Would I recommend it ? Yes ( in fact as soon as I saw Netgalley had it to request I went and enabled my friend Shelleen to go and get it .

Will I be going on with the series ?yes I will be

Will I read anymore by this author? Yes I will be
Another win for John Sandford and his book series
because when ever I read one of them I get lost in the story and I just want to keep reading it until the last page, this was fast pace and not once did I want to put it down at all , with that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it exchange for my honest opinion.

An exciting and thtillingly-paced police procedural with an amazingly convoluted mystery, BLOODY GENIUS is #12 in John Sandford's enthralling Virgil Flowers series. Virgil is the long-haired, band T-shirt wearing agent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, who lives on a farm with pregnant girlfriend Frankie, expecting twins. Virgil is called in to assist in a Minneapolis case, involving the murder of a University professor, which has stumped local homicide. The case has far more ramifications than expected and the suspense level remains constantly high.
