An excellent book! Had fun reading it, and kept me on my toes the whole time. Great character development and fascinating storyline.

This is a new one by Meg Cabot, who every so often writes an adult contemporary as well as her incredibly successful kids books. I really loved her other adult series, which sadly have not aged well (BlackBerry messaging, anyone) but had a host of supporting characters in the various books who worked at newspapers (remember them?) and had reliable jobs. Anyhow, so that's a long winded way of saying I'm a fan of her sense of humour. I found this one to be quite a bit darker: don't panic, it's still a romance, but both characters are mourning and there's a hurricane about to hit their island, plus a #metoo incident in the past that's not going to stay past.

And rather than the romance trope of being stuck in a hotel room/ inn / ice house* Cabot takes the story in a different direction entirely, complete with water damage and community kitchens. I enjoyed reading it, and I'll read the next one set on the same (fictional?) island.

*I've not read this one, but would be willing to bet it exists.

This was a netgalley preview.

This was a good love story and the back stories of the characters were interesting. It took a little too long to get going for my liking...and the hurricane aspect was a bit of a anti climax. That being said, I wanted to know how it was going to end with regards to the main characters which kept me reading.

This was a fun, light hearted romance, in spite of being set during a hurricane. Meg Cabot’s irreverent style of writing keeps things from getting too serious. I found it easy to read, and entertaining.

The only thing I didn’t really like was Drew’s tendency towards violence and possessiveness. However, when Bree wanted to deal with her ex’s friend by herself he didn’t raise much of an objection, so that redeemed him a bit.

I will look forward to the next book in the series. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will start this off by saying I am a huge Meg Cabot fan and when a new book comes out every other book I am reading or about to read is forgotten because Meg comes first!

So this is the story of Bree who moves to Little Bridge Island after her boyfriend and mother don't take her seriously after something happens to her (vague I know but doing my best not to spoil anything). She cuts off all contact and off she goes.

She starts working at the mermaid cafe and soon has many friends on the island and is settling in nicely. She also gets to know her boss's nephew Drew Hartwell, known as little bridges heartbreaker.

A big hurricane hits Little Bridge and it leaves the island cut off from the main land with no power. Bree realises that quite a few of the Islands residents evacuated without their pets and so she sets out to take care of all the animals she can with the help of the dreamy Drew Hartwell.

This is the perfect book romance and animals, whats not to love!? I really adored this story and must say perhaps it's one of the best of Megs books. I also loved that there was a sneak peak of the next book in the series.

Plus there is a recipe for the hurricane dip and lemon pudding cake mentioned in the book as well which I thought was a great addition.
