I was a bit conflicted with this novel since it begins with the hero accosting the heroine who punches him on the nose. He's then banished and returns determined to win her back. Now I liked that Phoebe is a strong heroine determined to make decisions for herself and falls in love with Marcus as he slowly shows her he's changed. What disturbed me was that everyone around her was pushing for her union with Marcus despite her telling them initially that he tried to kiss her against her will.
The other thing I wasn't too fond of was the fact that we were told how independent and wonderful Phoebe is but never really shown. Marcus falls in love with her looks and then decided to pursue her for marriage. We don't see the slow progression of their connection. Everything seemed rushed. Just not the best storytelling in my opinion.
