Look, Name Drop: The Really Good Celebrity Stories I Usually Only Tell at Happy Hour is by Ross Mathews, and though I've been pleasantly surprised by some really stellar books by comedians/funny personalities recently (Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, & Advice for Living Your Best Life), I kept my expectations at "Kathy-Griffin-Lite" level. And that was just about right.

I read this book in bits and pieces in between reading other stories, but even though it took me three weeks to get through, I found it to be a fun, entertaining read. Sure, it didn't hold my attention for long spans of time, but I enjoyed that the book read just like Ross Mathews sounds, so I felt like I was watching him on TV while I was reading.

Only read this book if you like lots of puns and play-on-word-humor. I'm... not sure if I like it that much, but I muscled through it. Also, be prepared for lots of self-deprecating "I'm chubby!" humor.

As a RuPaul super-fan, I could have used more Drag Race content. There was barely any here, which was a bit of a let down. I wanted some drag queen T!! Yeah, I know, there is probably contractual mumble, mumble keeping him from saying the good stuff, but Drag Race fans, you WILL be left wanting.

I enjoyed his celebrity snippets, and though it felt very surface level, I found some to be funny and most to be mildly entertaining.

An easy, fun read to pass the time if you are a Ross Mathews fan (one T!).

Super easy read that is mostly just fun. The stories were cute as compared to real expose type pieces. I think it would likely be more enjoyable for big Ross fans, I like him, but don't really follow him too much. Overall a good quick piece that fit nicely in between more hearty reads.

Such a fun read! I have loved watching Ross Mathews and all of his shenanigans over the years, so this book was a must read for me! Plus, there was some celebrity gossip involved - so that was a sure thing. This book is a light-hearted, fun, quick read. And the cocktail and the "Rossipe" recipes were perfect! Thank you Atria Books and NetGalley for a digital arc of this title.

This book is a bright, conversational romp through the best anecdotes that Matthews has to offer. It's just a fun read, through and through, packed with recipes, stories, and lots of puns. Clearly the puns are the best part. He's got a great facility with making you feel like you're sitting right next to him, gossiping along. It serves him well in this book. Some of his stories are sweet, like brightening up a dreary press junket for Beyonce, and some are more reflective, like meeting Matthew Perry twice across his career, with very different impressions of him. All are fun to read.

Ross Matthew the verbose, silly, witty mega-fan of every celebrity that walks the planet has written his own tome of celebrity experiences. When you read this book, you hear his chipper voice in your own head. Nothing too catty, negative, critical or racy here. Just good clean gossip for those that enjoy a little inside scoop from an author who's "just one of us".

I’ve seen Matthews a few times on TV shows, and I find him entertaining, so I thought I’d enjoy this book. I did, but not as much as I’d hoped.

Overall, this is a quick read with a number of fun, humorous puns. Matthews gives a lot of celebrity stories on people most readers will likely be familiar with. It was a bit like reading a book version of the Enquirer, though not quite as mean or gossipy.

If you don't know who Ross Mathews is, darling you are missing out. Ross interned on Jay Leno's show, worked red carpets, and judges on Rupaul's Drag Race. He's absolutely hilarious and completely adorable!!!

Name Drop is a collection of some of Ross's encounters with celebrities. He tells the stories as if you are sitting with him and having cocktails. Ross has some amazing insight of stardom!

I was very luck to get a copy of this book from Atria Books. Thanks to them I got to read one of my favorite books for 2020! I absolutely adored this book!!!! I laughed so much that I looked like a crazy lady. Ross did a wonderful job on intertwining his life stories and amazing Rossicpes. I highly recommend this for a cheerful and hilarious read for everyone! It's better than picturing Paris Hilton on Celebrity Jeopardy.🤣

For me, this was just okay... I like Ross Mathews, but I felt the tone of the book was meant to sound like a gossipy friend dishes out stories over a cup of tea, but many of the jokes just didn't do it for me. The stories were interesting enough, and it was a super quick read, but I just wasn't as involved in this as I anticipated being . Funny enough, just not a good representation of how hilarious Ross Mathews truly can be.

I love Ross Mathews...I think he is hilarious. I was so excited to get an advanced copy of Name Drop from the publisher and NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Name Drop is a collection of stories about famous people that Ross Mathews has met and often times interviewed. He also begins each chapter with a drink recipe and Rossipe for some of his favorite foods.

When I started the book I thought, wow this is really corny. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but decided to keep reading because he is typically so funny. I am so glad I did! As the book progressed (by the second chapter) I was literally laughing out loud at times. His humor and puns were so funny.

I will definitely be picking up his first book, Man Up!

I only know Ross Matthews a little bit from one what I have seen on TV and on the E! channel. Wow, this was insightful, hilarious, honest and a quick read. He really has met and interviewed many fascinating people. I hope he writes more books like this and I will have to look into his other book. If you want to polish up on your celebrity gossip and know other juicy tidbits, this is the book for you!

Thanks for ARC copy in exchange for honest review

Ross Mathews writes in a way that makes me feel I am sitting with him in person having a chat. A talented storyteller, Ross’ writes a book that is hilarious and has me breezing right through the book until until the end.

I saw a review of this on a friend’s page and just had to check it out. I think Ross is a hoot and would love to be besties with him anytime. His book is a good for a grin, and entertaining right down to the cocktail and appetizer recipes, or Rossipes as he calls them. If you’re ready for a lighthearted and fun break from whatever you’ve been reading, this will probably work for you, especially if you are a Ross Mathews fan. He keeps it real about the stars he meets, and has a great sense of humor that has served him well in his career path. If you love star gossip you will enjoy his book.

Now it makes me want to check out his first book too, which I likely will after this. It’s mentioned below in the author section. I will also be watching for future works of literary art from Ross and plenty more Rossipes for sure! Keep up the great work Ross, we need more happy entertainment like you provide. Perhaps my own personal vlog delivered to my inbox wouldn't be too much to ask? :-) Advance electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author Ross Mathews, and the publisher.

As a fan of Ross Mathews, I may consider him the celebrity best friend in my head, I’ve been eagerly anticipating reading this book. This book is exactly what I imagine hanging out with Ross in Palm Springs drinking skinny margaritas poolside would be like. His voice comes through loud and clear and it couldn’t be more delightful. I laughed and squealed throughout the entire thing. Plus I can’t wait to try ALL the Rossipes 😍😍. This is a rare book that I would want to have a physical and audio version of. I can’t wait for everyone to read this one!!

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review.

I have been a follower of Ross Mathews since he was on the Today's Show, he is naturally funny and engaging. He is an amazing storyteller and I enjoyed reading all his famous encounters. It was a quick-paced, fun book for any fan of celebrities or of Ross Mathews.

I love Ross Mathews and have for years! When I saw this book I knew it would be right up my alley, and I wasn't wrong. I laughed out loud reading this book because I could just picture Ross saying these things and these things happening to him. The stories of meeting different celebrities are great, and even if the meeting wasn't exactly the best, Ross doesn't present them in a bad light. Also, I LOVED the inclusion of cocktail recipes and food recipes that went with each celebrity, and I can't wait to try some. I am glad I got to read this book, and if you are a fan of Ross Mathews you should do the same!

I love Ross Matthews as a person but this just doesn't do it for me. I think its because I am veering away from nonfiction

I love celebrity memoirs and personal essays, provided they're by somebody funny whom I generally enjoy. Ross is definitely in that category. Name Drop is fun and full of, yes, name-dropping and celebrity dish. I love Ross from judging Drag Race and his podcast, and the tone of this book is exactly the same as he is in those venues. He's sassy and funny, and shares his best stories about meeting super famous (Lady Gaga, Rosie O'Donnell at her peak) and medium famous people (a Real Housewife whose name I already forgot). He's never mean about anyone (although Barbara Walters seems like a jerk), even when he's poking fun. This is a fairly short, fast read that some people might consume one chapter at a time (totally reasonable), even though I blasted through it all at once. I usually try to listen to books like this on audio during road trips, and I probably will listen to this when it's out and at the library. I bet it's even more fun in Ross's voice.
