This book is based on a true story. Charlotte thought she had married the man of her dreams. But she soon felt trapped y her husband and mother-in-law. She has an affair with a man called Ewan. Charlotte is ready to leave her husband but Ewan has disappeared without trace.

This is quite a dark read. The more you read the darker it gets. It's also very addictive. It wine twisted roller coaster ride you wont want to get off until the last page has been turned. This is such a well written debut novel. This is one family domestic you definitely want to read. I will be looking out for more from the author in future.

I would like to thank NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and the author Samantha Lee Howe for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderful psychological thriller.
Its a wonderful thriller. Charlotte's character was awesome in the book and was able to bind me with this book till the end.
Charlotte has everything money can buy. I’m a good wife, but sometimes I feel trapped. And when I start an affair with a stranger called Ewan, my life changes in ways I can’t begin to understand.Because Ewan breaks apart my marriage piece by piece and then he just disappears. He uses a fake name and leaves no trace behind; it’s like he doesn’t even exist.
Thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter for giving me an advance copy.

The Stranger In Our Bed is a fast paced domestic thriller that I cannot believe is a debut by Samantha Lee Howe.
First off the thing that stopped me in my tracks was at the beginning it says”based on a true story” and all the way through when things got out of hand I kept thinking this is a true story!! WTF!!!
Charlotte is married to Tom, Tom is head of his late fathers company and has more money than is possibly needed. Charlotte is controlled by both Tom and his mother, although she has an easy life by not working and merely lunching with charity members and organising events for charities with Toms mother, she is still controlled from every angle. Then feeling low she meets Ewan and starts an affair, she arranged to leave Tom and meet Ewan and start a new life with him but Ewan fails to appear, where is he? Could be really care so little for her? The plot thickens and the more you read the deeper you go and the darker it gets.
This was a really good read for me, one that I read in a day as I couldn’t wait to get to the bottom of it all.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oohh this author is definitely one I'm gonna be looking for! I devoured this book!
While I did find myself losing sympathy for the main character by the end, I certainly wouldn't wish what she went through on my worst enemy!
She put up with a lot more then I would of done in her shoes!
Regardless of my personal feelings about her decisions, she was still a character that I did root for, and she was written so well. In fact every single character was excellently written. I loved that, although there were clear villains/heroes of the story, they all had their own reason for acting like they did. Very realistic and believable!
The story had plenty of twists and turns, and it had my full attention throughout.
Overall, a dark, intensely twisted domestic read that is most definitely worth a read!
Really looking forward to reading more from this author!

Samantha Lee Howe has written a sterling novel in this début psychological thriller.

Charlotte and Tom appear to have a pretty perfect life. Tom runs the family business while Charlotte spends her days arranging charity events. But she is far from content. Manipulative, wealthy Tom and his controlling mother have a say in everything she does and she has no freedom. Suddenly, Ewan Daniels catapults into Charlotte's life with whom she has an affair, and that develops into a serious relationship. She has a man who truly makes her feel happy and loved. After months of disloyalty and sneaky behaviour, she finally tells Tom that she is leaving him, only Ewan appears to have completely vanished. Reluctantly, Charlotte reconciles with Tom but carries on searching for Ewan.

Charlotte's discoveries are not what she expected and this helps to make The Stranger in Our Bed such a magnificent read. It is certainly up there with the best of thrillers about toxic relationships that I've read. The characters are well fleshed out (you'll despise some of them) and the story is brilliantly told.

The Stranger in Our Bed is one to read if dark and twisted domestic noir is your thing.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from One More Chapter via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

No spoilers! Charlotte looks like she has it all- her husband Tom is a wealthy man of influence and she's busy with charitable work and social affairs. That's the outside. On the inside, things aren't so great. When she meets Ewan, she falls hard and as their relationship develops, they make a plan to run away together. And then, when she finally tells Tom, Ewan ghosts her. Leaves her standing on the side of the road, literally. In her position, you'd want explanations too - wouldn't you? What Charlotte finds is not what she expected and that's what makes this a good read. The characters are good (you'll boo hiss at some of them) and the story well told. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

Charlotte was gave up a law career to become the wife of Tom Carlisle, CEO of Carlisle Corp. She spends her time lunching with his mother and the other wives, and planning charities events. When she becomes pregnant, Her mother-in-law takes over, planning everything, and not letting Charlotte have a say in anything. She is befriended by a man who she feels an instant attraction to, and he is a good sounding board for all of her complaints about how her life is no longer in her control. When she loses the baby due to a tragic accident, her husband and mother-in-law become even more controlling and her husband even accuses her of losing the baby on purpose. When Ewan contacts Charlotte just to check in on her she can help but respond and soon they are meeting for coffee, which quickly escalates to a full-blown affair. When Charlotte tells Tom she is leaving him for Ewan, Tom is enraged. But when Charlotte goes to meet him Ewen is not there, his phone is not in service, the place he said he worked has never heard from him and the apartment he supposedly was living in has someone else living there...someone who says they have lived there for years.
I really wanted to like this book. It had all of the check marks for a great book, except for one. I could not stand the main character. It made no sense why someone as smart as Charlotte would not only let herself get bullied around and physically abused by Tom , but she kept going back to him. Over. And over. And over. So, maybe that is just ,me, but in my opinion it took away from the story.

This is a hard to put down book. and if you think you might have an idea of what is about to happen by the end of the book, the twists and turns will certainly surprise you. The characters are developed slowly and new things about them come to the surface as the book continues.

The author. Samantha Lee Howe, expertly captured how a wife is subject to the unpredictable ways her husband treats her, and after the bad experiences, falls under his spell again, and settles into a life of predictability.

This is an intriguing read if you like psychological-type thrillers.

First, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the novel in exchange for my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised by The Stranger in Our Bed, by Samantha Lee Howe. Charlotte is a pretty trophy wife and house wife. She met her now-husband Tom in college, and he is the successful CEO of his moneyed family’s company. Her days are spent doing things like shopping, going to the gym or salon, and making sure a nice dinner is on the table for her husband in the evenings. Charlotte is expected to fulfill the societal expectations placed on her, and to look and act the part of a dutiful wife to a powerful man. However, Charlotte has her own identity, and although she is malleable and can be subservient, she often feels stifled by her stylish, perfect, domineering mother in law and by Tom. There is a distinct imbalance of power between these three relationships - Charlotte clearly holds very little power in the household and is often only meant to conform and play a role, rather than being her own independent person.

Eventually, Charlotte becomes more and more dissatisfied in her prescribed role, and she meets another man whom she finds attractive, kind, and quite thrilling. This turns into an affair, and the affair leads her down a dark path which will eventually threaten her life and the life of her small daughter Melody.

I began reading The Stranger in Our Bed yesterday, and binge read it the same day. Once I got into the book, I found it very difficult to believe this is a debut novel. I have read so many books, and this one felt polished, well edited and well written, with interesting characters and some truly unexpected twists and turns. At a number of points in the novel I was unable to tell what was really going on. Who was the true villain? Which man was the bad guy? WAS there a bad guy? And what of Charlotte’s mother in law Isadora? What did she know, and what was she hiding?

I did find the denouement to be a tad bit disappointing. The very last page seemed like quite a cliche, and the book’s tension was resolved too neatly, with more of a whimper than a bang. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I would definitely recommend it and give it a solid 4 stars out of 5. I was very impressed by how enjoyable it was. I’d love to get my hands on what Samantha Lee Howe writes next.

A great title and cover that grabs the reader and I imagine will stand out in a busy genre market place

Charlotte and Tom, shop at Harrods, have a chauffeur driven limo, Country estate and London pad and literally everything they could wish for..except happiness, well on Charlotte’s side, she feels hemmed in and has 2 chance meetings with Ewan...they have an all consuming affair and decided to be together, forever, the time and dare are set, Charlotte gets to the designated place
And waits, in vain
The only person meeting her there is Tom
Ewan ghosts her, vanishes completely, or does he?
Then, in simple story telling language the book charts Tom and Charlotte’s ‘reunion’ and drive to find that married ‘bliss’, again, that they never really had in the first place, this time however Tom’s true evil side comes out, revealing many things ( including a fascination with his Mother ) and Charlotte realises just how much trouble she really is in

As said a very easy writing style that
easily draw the reader in and keeps you focused as the story takes turn after nasty turn

Possibly one of the scariest ‘she woke up and realised what he was doing’ scenes read lately and a good if maybe predictable ending mean most who are drawn in by the cover and title will enjoy this book

There are scenes of marital violence both physical and mental that I felt did not go ‘above and beyond’ what the author had to show to describe the character of Tom and what he was doing

8/10
4 Stars

Charlotte wasn't looking for trouble. She was happily married. Or, maybe, not as happy as she had thought. Which is why she started an affair and got herself into this mess. And her life might be in danger.

Charlotte has been married for over a decade. Being the wife of a prestigious and incredibly wealthy lawyer comes with great perks. But it also comes with an incredibly controlling and condescending mother-in-law. And, while her patience with Isadora is running low, Charlotte also realizes that her marriage might not be as interesting and strong as she'd thought.

Charlotte soon finds herself in an affair with a mysterious, charming man. Ewan is caring, he listens to her thoughts, she lets her be herself. But at the moment she declares she's leaving her husband, Ewan disappears. His cell phone goes out of service. Someone else is living in his apartment. And he doesn't reach out again.

Charlotte's life is crumbling. She's determined to find out Ewan's real identity. But there are more pieces to this puzzle than she'd ever imagined. And things are more dangerous than she'd ever expected.

The Stranger In Our Bed is a fast-moving, gripping psychological thriller. It moves rapidly, not letting the reader get bored even for a second. Every detail matters. Pay attention, and you might find the clues to what's going on.

Samantha Lee Howe has created some very interesting characters. There's a background to each hero's story, and a reason behind every action. But it's quite difficult to unravel all that. Which makes this book such a good read for the thriller genre.

The Stranger In Our Bed is a book you will not want to put down. Highly recommended for everyone's to-read list.
