A second chance fast paced romance Will give Danny and Skylar the future they were previously denied. I absolutely adore all of Donna Grant’s cowboy stories since she makes her characters come to life!

One night after Sheriff Danny Oldman after getting his supper to go he parked in a rest stop. Danny figured he would eat his meal in silence while enjoying the quiet until suddenly another car pulled up next to him. Danny couldn’t help but overhear a woman and man fighting. Danny tried not to get involved until the man started to get violent with the woman. Danny had no choice to intervene to prevent anyone getting hurt. As soon as he notices the woman it turns out to be a long-ago high school crush of his, Skylar Long. Danny is at first surprised to Skylar but manages to get the man who turns out to be her current boyfriend away from her. Skylar decides to press charges on her so-called boyfriend and Danny realizes that he must protect Skylar so hides her at his friend’s ranch. As Danny geos about protecting his town from evil he and Skylar are in the fight for their very lives when Skylar’s boyfriend threatens them constantly. Love is proving to be quite the battlefield for them both.
What a lovely contemporary cowboy romance with a hunky chivalrous sheriff cowboy and his strong-willed feisty heroine. Who wouldn’t love that? Usually, I stay away from these types of stories, but I just couldn’t resist this one that has been sitting in my to be read pile and on my Netgalley books that needed feedback for quite some time. So yes, I bit the bullet and just read it realizing what a silly person I am to avoid these types of romances because they are just absolutely wonderful. Well, also Ms. Donna Grant is quite a fantastic author that any story of hers isn’t humdrum or boring in the least. Okay sure the relationship abuse is a sensitive subject, but it is dealt with nicely giving justice especially to Skylar the brave heroine. Sure, she never should have stayed that long in the relationship but since it led her to Danny who is just absolutely a gorgeous cowboy that is a perfect book boyfriend then it’s forgivable. This will inspire me to read the rest in the series too!

What is not to enjoy about a romance novel that involves a cowboy and the one that got away? You have romance, cowboys and a crazy ex. What could go wrong? LOL. Danny and Skylar will have to re-live the past and confront the future all while dealing with an ex gung ho on making their lives miserable.

Apologies for the late response on this title, and apologies for clogging up an inbox on old titles.

While I am aware it's obvious, I have chosen not to read/review this title.

As always, I appreciate access to titles and look forward to the next one...which I have likely already read based on how long ago this title was published.

Thanks, again.

Danny and Skylar knew each other in high school, but Skylar decided that small town living was not for her, and went to Houston to find what she was looking for. Things were good for a while but an abusive ex sent her back home for protection. Danny, now a sheriff, thought he and forgotten Skylar until he saw her again and realized what was missing in his life. Now he is ready and willing to do anything to keep Skylar safe, but will that be enough, when he's up against a powerful family and a man who has no moral compass at all. Can they survive to find their HEA?
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily am leaving a review.

This is my first read by Donna Grant and I think it's fantastic!

I really liked the small town romance feel this book had while still incorporating a very real and true to life situation. I cannot wait to read more by Donna Grant.

I rated this book 3 stars on GoodReads when I read it 3 years ago but didn't write a formal review. I am marking the stars here to move it off my shelf.

Good book. A few over the top spots but nothing horrible. Seemed short to me but I read fast also. Definitely a weekend type of book you don’t have to think of the plot line to hard.

This is book 4 in the Heart of Texas Series. Danny is the local sheriff and he tells everyone that he is married to his job, and that is why he's not dating or married. Skylar never thought she'd have to flee back to Texas, but here she is doing just that. Can their old flame reignite, or will the person she's fleeing tear them apart?

Danny renews romance and ties with Skylar when she returns to hometown although danger follows to interrupt this second chance for love.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

Grant comes back in a big way with her story of two people reconnecting and finding in one another exactly what is needed. Grant has led us through many years and some amazing stories as we learned about this small Texas town and the folks who call it home, not the least of which was the family at the heart of the community. Danny has been a big part of each of the previous stories, somehow being a hero without taking away from the magic of the lovebird in those stories, but I was thrilled to learn he was finally getting his own love. Danny is an interesting mix of brooding hero and sweet lover that reminds us that the men we fall in love with aren’t all built from the same mold. I really enjoyed getting to see him flex his muscles as he used his influence as sheriff to protect the woman that he was falling for and to allow her to return to the woman she once was before a bastard tried to break her spirit. If you are looking for a story with a rugged and sexy alpha hero that knows how to show his gentle side to the woman that steals his heart, you don’t need to look much further that Donna’s new story. I am dying to see what comes next and find out who might be falling in love.
Danny is in a rut; he works all the time and has no desire to even cultivate much of a personal life, so when he stops for dinner at his favorite truck stop, he never imagined his life would change forever in an instant. Skylar has finally made an escape from the bastard that has turned her into a virtual prisoner, but he’s caught up with her and she’s sure she will soon be dead. Luckily Danny comes to her rescue, a dark shadow coming into the light and taking her tormentor into custody as well as providing her with a refuge while he helps her to get her now-ex off her back. Danny and his friends are determined to do whatever is necessary to make sure that Skylar has a chance to get back to her life, but Danny is slowly losing his heart to the sexy woman that he had a crush on through most of his young adulthood. Soon the dangers are coming from every corner and only Danny and his team can make sure that the two of them have a chance to explore their passions and have a future together, before Sky’s past ends all chances for them.
I really enjoyed getting a deeper understanding of Danny and seeing him in action as Sheriff even in the mundane moments. He is obviously a very controlled and brave guy, sexy as all get out and sweet to the women in his life. We have seen so much of him in the past that we assumed we knew him inside and out, but the loneliness we get to see Skylar overcoming as they spend more time together reminds us that even some people are hiding from us. My favorite moments with him was when he was just spending quiet time with Skylar and encouraging her to come out the shell, she has put herself into for protection or when he’s with the East family. There are also moments where his passions are undeniably hot and I envied Skylar for being the focus and recipient of that heat, but it’s obvious that she is the missing piece of this life and his soul. Skylar is a strong woman that has found herself in a situation that she swore she’d never be in and one she needs serious help to get out of. When Danny and his friends offer her the helping hand, she needs, she doesn’t hesitate to grab ahold of it and get out of the terrifying situation she has found herself in, and thankfully she is soon able find her old strength and bravery. I loved watching her in action as she found her footing again and remind Danny why he loved her spirit so much as a young woman, but I also enjoyed watching her find her home again in both Danny and the small town where she belonged. Us small town girls need to stick where we belong, even if we get confused sometimes. The best part of the whole story was seeing her take a stand against her ex and demand her due, even to the point of putting herself in danger in order to protect the man she loved when he is put in danger. That is true love and the ultimate sacrifice.
A Cowboy Like You is one of those stories that seems so much shorter than it truly is because it flies by as you are reading, and you fall in love with it quickly. There is enough action and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat, but the real core of the story is two people finding each other even in the turmoil of their lives and finding a way to overcome their obstacles to love. Danny is a hero in every sense of the word and a sexy beast in boots on top of that. I enjoyed every moment of truly getting to know him and found myself wishing I had my very own Danny to love. Skylar was in a truly difficult situation, but she managed to get herself out and instinctively took herself home, leaving fate to do the rest and bring her right into the arms of the one man that could truly save her in every way. She needed help, but she doesn’t cave under pressure or in the face of danger and leave others to fight her fights, standing up and making sure that her tormentor knows she is done and will bring him down once and for all. The passion between these two was incendiary and I was dying to see them in one another’s sphere each time it happened, but the sweet heat that was left burning after the initial flashes always left a warm glow for extended time. The love between Danny and Skylar is the kind we all hope to find someday and reminds readers that there truly is someone out there for us all if we just let fate lead us and keep our eyes and hearts open. I can’t wait for whatever comes next in this series and would love to see police chief Ryan maybe get his own book (wink wink, nudge nudge Donna)! Thanks for the repeated magic, Ms. Grant.

Danny Oldman and Skylar Long knew each other in high school, but even though Skylar had a crush on Danny, nothing came of it. It has been years since they have seen each other and what brings them back together is a rather sad situation. Danny is a cop, married to his job, and Skylar is in an abusive relationship. When Danny spies Skylar in trouble, little did either of them realize that now the timing for love has just arrived, but not without its challenges.

Skylar is afraid to trust. What is more is that her ex is extremely abusive and dangerous and if anyone helps her, she would worry for their safety. So she tries her best to get back on her feet by herself. However, the pull of attraction to Danny is more than she can resist, proving that second chances sometimes have a way of bringing true healing and joy.

I loved the first three books in the Heart of Texas series and have enjoyed reading this one and the two that follow. The stories balance drama, suspense, love, trust and deliver a warm happily ever after.

Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

If you don't follow this author and her books you should. This particular book is about Danny and Skylar and old friends coming back together through a very difficult time. It has a great cast of characters and some nail biting moments. This is a fantastic book and one to continue to read over and over again.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant
Subgenre: western romance
Release date: 26 Nov 2019
Publisher: St Martin’s
Format: ebook and print
Length: 304 pages
RRP: $8.11 (ebook); $18.75 (print)

One of the things I enjoy about some series is that you get to meet other characters and to also see how their lives have turned out.

However, the first thing I would say is that this story has a family violence storyline.

Danny Oldman is the local sheriff. He wonders why he can’t settle for a woman. He is well known and liked by his community. And he often misses meals. Or has to find a quiet spot to actually get to eat his meal. On one such occasion, he sees Skylar again, he knows she is the reason he can’t settle. But first he has to deal with an ugly situation.

Skylar Long has been found by her boyfriend. He smashes in the car in an attempt to take her back home, where he thinks she belongs. Danny comes to her rescue and has her ex arrested. As it turns out, the ex is from a very wealthy and politically influential family, who are prepared to do whatever it takes to silence anything bad about them. What they miss is that their son is a very dangerous man.

The ex, I don’t believe someone like him should be named although he is in the book, does, and uses, all manner of methods to get Skylar back.

Danny takes Skylar to his friend’s ranch where she will be protected. But that does not stop the ex from plotting and planning his revenge. The friends do group together to help Skylar, but it is hard for Danny and Skylar to be together under these circumstances. The ex does manage to penetrate the ring of security and does some despicable things to Danny.

At first, I was a bit anxious when I could see where this story was headed. I thought the storyline was treated reasonably sensitively around family violence, even with what happened to Danny. I kept reminding myself that there would be a HEA at the end. And there was. Skylar and Danny are meant to be together and once the ex is out of the way, they can be together, forever.

As I said, while the storyline may have had some distressing aspects, the chemistry between Danny and Skylar is there and the reader knows that things will turn out all right for them, and those around them.

Sherriff Danny Oldman is in the right place at the right time when he stops a domestic violence incident. Then he realizes the victim is his high school crush Skylar. When he realizes Skylar is in danger, he rallies his friends to help keep her safe from her boyfriend Matt who comes from a powerful family. This book was okay and there was a HEA, but it was a little unbelievable. Danny was the saint Sherriff and Matt was every abusive boyfriend stereotype. Having Danny tortured was also a little too much. And finally, this book is hard to read as a standalone. There are a lot of characters and it was hard to keep track of everyone’s relationships and who they are.

This was just okay for me. I haven't read the others in this series, so the beginning was a little confusing when Danny takes Skylar to the East Ranch and everyone is there. They're sorta introduced, but there is so many people it was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of how fast the MCs get into a relationship either. While I get instant attraction, a woman escaping from an abusive relationship doesn't strike me as someone who would immediately jump into another relationship. The whole "they went to high school together" didn't really work for me either. That was at least 15 years ago, and they weren't even really friends then. The stuff that happens with Matt towards the end of the book could be triggering for some people. It was a little heavier than I thought it would be. Danny and Skylar do get their HEA, even though it was hard fought. Although this wasn't a favorite, I would read this author again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

I've read a couple of Donna Grant books and I think this one might be my favorite so far.

I love small-town romance and both Skyler and Danny were characters easy to connect with. The story is filled with drama about relationship going wrong and trying to escape it and coming across to find that one person who is ready to help you out no matter what.

This book has a lot of triggers and I’m happy that i got a change to read it.

A Cowboy Like You is the fourth in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant. While the books can be read as standalone, I do recommend you read the series as a whole to get the best out of the books, stories and characters.

Danny Oldman is a good ole boy, the handsome sheriff and single as single can be, he claims to be married to his job and simply not looking for anything serious. That being said, he still holds a flame for his high school crush, and always has her in the back of his mind.

With an obsessive, over-bearing boyfriend on her tail, Skylar Long returns home hoping to get her life back in order. Seeing Danny again brings back long forgotten memories and feelings, that both thought were buried. After their second chance begins, Danny and Skylar are swept up in a whirlwind of drama, fear and uncertainty. Skylar’s rich and crazy ex doesn’t want to let her go and is hell bent on getting her back at all cost.

A contemporary romance, with well developed characters, a loving story line, friendship, suspense and just the right amount of drama. A Cowboy Like You is heartwarming and happy, as a long time Donna Grant fan and avid reader I enjoyed it very much. The main characters are support by people that make you want their stories; Donna is a writer that always makes you want more when you finish reading.
