Donna Grant never disappoints in her books! I adore her cowboy series, love, romance, page turner, good storyline.

Donna Grant’s fourth book in the Heart of Texas series, A Cowboy Like You, has her particular brand of cowboy hero written all throughout it, with unassuming heroes and strong, independent women...and a stop you in your tracks, all encompassing storyline that has a powerful message expertly weaved throughout. Danny and Skylar are the sort of couple I’ve come to expect from Ms Grant’s characters...engaging, personable, and relatable...not to mention you find yourself falling in love with their journey. Once again this author hits it out of the park!

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Danny's book and all I can say is finally. After seeing with and witnessing his bravery I am happy that he finally has his own HEA. Not to say that his path is easy, but in this series, it never was.

Will there be other books after this? Maybe. But all I can say is that I look forward to Ms. Grant's books.

I enjoyed this book, and the characters are quite likeable. I was very intrigued by the storyline which made the book a fast-paced one for me! Finally, an unusual storyline for a romance novel.

A COWBOY LIKE YOU - Donna Grant

#4 in the Heart of Texas Western romance series

GREAT CHARACTERS - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - When Skylar runs from her abusive boyfriend, she winds up in her hometown, rescued by an old friend who is now the sheriff. Now she has to deal with her feelings about Danny, while dealing with her crazy boyfriend through the legal system.

Writing - 4.5 stars - As always with this series, Grant captures my attention right from the first page. She creates wonderful characters who are very appealing, while setting up a story that includes action and suspense.

Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Skylar is a strong woman who has ended up in a situation that we all assume we'd be able to avoid, but her openness and trust has led her right into an unscrupulous man's hands. She's annoyed with herself, but she's also realistic about the situation, which made me respect her more. She has dreams, though, which is what made her especially appealing. Danny, on the other hand, has been on the periphery in the previous books in this series. It was great, this time, to get to know him much better. He's known as a good guy and an honest sheriff. I had actually thought of him as a much older man previously, so it was nice to have my visualization of him changed. He's vulnerable, and not afraid to admit it and ask for help from his friends. But he's tough when he needs to be. A great combination.

Title - 3.5 stars - This is an OK title, sticking with the general format of previous books in this series. But it doesn't really say much or lead us in the direction that this book will follow. The fact that Danny is a sheriff is much more important, it seems, than the fact that he's from Texas, so he must be a cowboy.

Cover - 3.5 stars - Again, the cover is OK, but uninspiring. The cowboy is good-looking, but there's no indication that he's the sheriff; it looks more like he's going to work on a ranch.

Overall - 4 stars - Another winner in this series. It was such a quick and very enjoyable read. The characters were attractive, the story was interesting enough to keep me turning the pages, and the message was realistic for this day and age, but with an underlying positive message of friendship and love. The action scene at the end was definitely exciting, but I questioned the realism of a couple of points. But those questions didn't detract from the story and the impact at all. I can't wait to read the next in this series when it's available.

This story opens quite dramatically with Skylar trying to escape her absolutely scary boyfriend. Fortunately for her she has a witness and from the beginning of this story she has to hide for her life.

Domestic abuse is a real thing and in this story the author does an outstanding job of portraying the everyday fear that these victims live with. Her writing feels real and causes an anxiety within the reader much like Skylar's. Skylar understands how she got where she is but sometimes understanding comes almost too late. In this book she is never shown as weak even though sometimes defenseless and scared. I felt her growing stronger and not willing to put up with the ex was handled in a believable manner.

Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff remembers Skylar from his youth. In fact, he has never forgot her. Reading this series, I always wonder who the woman was that got away and this book solves that question. It also shows how nice people can lose out of a relationship because they don't feel good enough.

As with any book written by author Donna Grant there is a lesson learned. So people jump off the cliff! Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try.

Due to the ending and moral of the story I give it 4 STARS.

Not a bad story, but it fell a little flat for me. My suspension of disbelief was stretched fairly thin with the ending, and the set-up for the main romance was missing something. I enjoyed the tale, if not necessarily the storytelling.

I'm a fan of Donna Grant especially her Heart of Texas series.

Danny is such a workaholic guy that I want to hug him and make him happy. I'm so glad that he and Skylar have been given a second chance.

It took an effort to get out of a bad, especially abusive relationship. Skylar's strength is amazing.

There are parts in the story that I really hate Skylar's ex-boyfriend, how crazy and greedy he is.

I enjoyed the story. Thank you for the ARC: St. Martin's Press and Netgalley!

A second chance romance between the cowboy sheriff and the girl that got away. Before they are able to enjoy their long-awaited HEA Danny and Skylar must deal with her abusive ex. This kept me turning pages long after lights out.

Reading Donna Grant is like chicken soup for the soul! Whether she writes a twisted tale of the Dragon Kings or a contemporary cowboy romance, it will be a reading pleasure no matter the genre.

And with a cowboy like Danny Oldman, her fourth book in the Heart Of Texas series, is another heart warmer. The Lone Star Sheriff is content being the protector of his citizens, and love for him is far fetched as the girl of his dreams far away. But then fate always plays a hand bringing Skylar Long back to him with her painful present dogging her heals.

Now with their long ago attraction only deepening into love, both have to fight the demons before they can make a future.

Another great read from Donna Grant!

I kind of enjoyed this book.. The chemistry between the main characters felt forced. This might also be a bit biased because I’m not really into cowboy books.

A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant is book number 4 in the Heart of Texas series. I previously read the third book, but do not feel like it is necessary to have read any of the other books, the author does a good job of setting up each story and the characters. For this book, I jumped right in with the action-packed beginning and pretty much read it straight through, with a little break for sleep. A Cowboy Like You is the story of Danny and Skylar and how he saves her from her horrendous ex-boyfriend. This book has a couple of racy scenes and a lot of things work out in the story for everything to move along how it does. Do not read this book looking for fine literature (I am in no way meaning it was not written well), but rather read it if you want to be fully entertained from start to finish.

This drama filled novel focuses on Danny, a somewhat jaded small town sheriff and Skylar – the girl he admired from afar who is looking to escape an abusive relationship.

Danny has seen a lot in his role as a sheriff and it has definitely dragged him down both emotionally and mentally. In the opening of the novel, you can see his struggles and to be honest I can’t imagine how seeing the things you see in this position affect you and the nightmares that they may cause. He is married to his job – preferring solitude to a relationship.

By chance, he is there to witness a domestic abuse which he stops and the woman ends up being Skylar. Skylar was a young woman whom in high school, he had a huge crush on but never acted on. Strangely enough, she also admired him as well. It was almost as though fate brought them together in an interesting and sad way. Together they not only have to navigate a stalking ex, a domestic abuse charge but also their own attraction and feelings for each other.

The book is steamy, dramatic and full of suspense. It may be triggering for some readers due to the content (her ex stalks and abused her) but it also highlights how she chose to fight back. We watch as two individuals who have been dealt hard dealings in life, struggle to come to terms and move forward. It is a beautiful story of second chances and learning not to be afraid to move forward in life.

A Cowboy Like You is a compelling story about 2 friends from high school who parted at graduation without ever pursuing a relationship. Danny became the hometown sheriff, and Skylar headed to Houston and was doing well, until things got out of control. Skylar headed out of town when she thought she had a chance to flee the abusive relationship she found herself in, with no particular destination in mind, until she stopped at a rest stop and realize she had headed back to the small town where she'd grown up. This story has great suspense and action with some steamy romance as well. I love the characters and setting and really enjoyed the story. I look forward to reading the rest of the titles in this series!

Danny and Skyler had all the feelings but never jumped to the impulses they shared. When she needed him the most. Whether it was right place and right time or it was just fade he counted himself lucky to be the one. Life just changed for both of them. A small town, second chance at love that’s suspenseful with hot hot action.

Book Review- A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant

I like this series. The characters are awesome. They take care of their own. Danny is a character that is threaded throughout the other books as he is a friend and the sheriff. I was happy to see him with his own story. He is such a good guy. Of course, it has to be his high school crush and he has to come to her rescue.
The story is centered on a dark storyline of obsession, domestic violence, privilege, and politics. Skylar is strong and doing what she needs to do. I love how Danny is there to save her initially and help her through the whole ordeal. All past characters make an appearance which I loved. They all come together to ensure Skylar’s safety and happiness. There is never a question about Skylar and Danny getting together, but what they have to endure to be together.
The author made a great villain out of the whole family who thinks they can buy their way out of everything. I can’t believe Skylar’s parents either. The author makes things realistic in the sense that I could actually see this happening. Family of privilege and high status seeing they are above the law, throwing money at everyone to get what they want. It was a great addition to the series and the ending was fabulous. I can’t wait to see who is next. I give it a 4 out of 5.
