Skylar Long and Danny Oldman had been friends in high school. Danny had a crush on Skylar that continued long past high school. She had moved away to Houston, though. Danny didn't date much because he was married to his job. The truth was that he had never gotten over his feelings for Skylar. They had never dated but he had always wanted to ask her out but never thought he was in her league.

Danny is now the sheriff and lives in his hometown. When he stopped at a rest stop for a bit of quiet and to eat his dinner, he witnessed a man who was abusive and attacking a woman in another car. Danny quickly responded and found himself face-to-face with Skylar Long.

Skylar had been in an abusive relationship with Matt and had tried to escape but somehow he had tracked her down and was determined to drag her back to Houston with him. She feared for her life. Lucky for her, her friend, Danny, was there to save her.

As Danny continued to provide protection for Skylar, those old feelings came to the surface and he learned that Skylar had feelings for him, too. Matt's family was very wealthy and he was determined to get Skylar back or be sure that no one else ever had her.

There was some descriptive sex in this book, which I am not particularly a fan of. There was violence and some foul language, as well. I liked the story very much and how Danny's friends came to his rescue and helped to keep Skylar safe. The story showed how someone who is intelligent and educated can find themselves trapped in an abusive relationship and how hard it is to escape.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

A Cowboy like You is a plot driven suspense with a spicy romance. Danny Oldman is the local sheriff and is married to his job. When he rescues a long-ago friend, Skylar Long, from an abusive relationship, he starts to rethink his position on being single for life. While escaping from her boyfriend, Skylar finds herself back in her hometown and can’t believe her once good friend was in the right place at the right time. With the intense drama of her domestic abusive case against boyfriend Matt Gaudet, both feel a connection and something clicked between them.
Donna Grant is a master of building her worlds and showcasing the dichotomy of good and bad. Matt is an abuser and has to be stopped. His family and its money give him things he feels he’s entitled to and that includes Skylar. She slowly ramps up the tension and highlights his deeds causing tension with everyone involved. On the other extreme she writes a likable, fair and a white knight in the sheriff. Danny is one of those characters that has been that way his whole life and gets along with everybody. He’s aligned himself with good people and has good friends with Clayton East and the Harper brothers. Skylar is also a likable character because she is stronger than she thinks. I never understood how women could stay in an abusive relationship but the author pointed out certain things through Skylar’s situation, and made it less black and white.
A Cowboy Like You is a fast and engaging read. The author created a nice balance, of romance, suspense and drama. The characters she’s created are family to one another and you see them go to battle for one another. This is the 4th book in the Heart of Texas series but can be read as a stand-alone. I bet you’ll want to read them from the beginning.

Exquisitely written book that deals with Domestic Violence. Skylar Long left town right after graduation to make it in the big city but, Danny Oldman now the Sheriff of Baxter County never forgot about her. He never thought he would see her again but fate had other designs..
This is a suspense filled, beautiful story about friends, family and love I highly recommend it.

Copy kindly received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this one. The characters were all likeable, apart from the ones we're meant to hate (and boy did I hate those ones), and it dealt with some serious real life issues.

We've met our hero Danny, in the other books in the series, and his friends at the East Ranch. As usual they all play a big role in the story, just this time it's Dannys personal story.

Our hero is Skylar and I won't say much about what's happening with her, except that its horrible and was dealt with in a good way with the writing of this story.

It did maybe drag out a little too long, but at the same time, everything was dealt with accordingly, and there were no loose ends with the storyline.

Enjoyed this one, and would recommend. Also would be interested in reading more about the other characters.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, struggles, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Christmas Cowboy Hero (Heart of Texas, #1)
Cowboy, Cross My Heart (Heart of Texas #2)
My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas #3)

This is Skylar and Danny’s story. Dannys the local sheriff tells anybody that asks that he is married to his job. Real story is he had love until Skylar left. Skylar returns home to escape her ex. But he follows and is trying to make sure noone else can have her. As Skylar and Danny realize the love they had is stronger than ever will they be able to get a second chance?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single. He tells himself, and anyone who asks, that he is married to his job—and what matters most is keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth? Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her. Skylar Long never thought she would have to flee Houston and return home—where it all began for her. But that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Now, Skylar is desperate to escape her obsessive boyfriend. Nothing shocks her more than seeing Danny again and realizing that their long-ago attraction is more powerful than ever. But can she and Danny find a way to fight against Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex who is dead set on tearing them apart?
This was a pretty decent book. I’ve read many of Donna Grant’s books, including all of the others in this series and usually love them all. Unfortunately, I had some problems with this one, mainly the premise/assumptions about who they were so long before in high school. It doesn’t deter how much I love this author’s writing though. I can’t wait to read more from her.

A Cowboy Like You was an enjoyable read with a second chance at love romance and a fantastic group of side characters.

Sheriff Danny Oldman is married to the job, at least that’s what he tells people when they ask why he’s still single. But in reality, Danny never got over his high school crush, Skylar Long, who moved away after graduation. So when Danny runs into Skylar as she’s fleeing an abusive relationship, he jumps at the chance to protect her. Skylar never imagined her perfect boyfriend would turn out to be a nightmare and she’s desperate to escape him. Seeing Danny again brings back all the old feelings she had for him, but when her obsessive ex refuses to let her go, Skylar wonders if she’ll ever be free to love again.

Danny is an incredibly sweet man and he was definitely my favorite thing about this book. He’s genuine and loyal to his friends which are great traits for a romance hero. I loved the friendship group he had and I found myself eager to learn more about them. Skylar was also a fantastic character and I admired her strength and determination to fix her situation. The situation with Skylar’s ex is horrible and while those types of relationships do happen, it was terrible reading about it. Reading about the abuse as well as the over the top ending to the book did detract from my enjoyment a bit, but that’s a personal preference thing.

I typically enjoy second chance romances, so I was looking forward to reading this book. Danny and Skylar were both interested in each other in high school, but neither acted on that attraction as they were sure the other wasn’t interested. Due to once being friends, Danny and Skylar easily fall back into that friendship when they meet again. While I did really love their friendship, their romance hit a few snags for me. My main issue with the relationship was that I had a hard time buying how quickly Danny and Skylar got together. With Skylar’s situation, I expected the book would take place over a longer period of time when it actually takes place over the course of only a few weeks. Had more time been given for Skylar to recover from her abusive ex and for the relationship between her and Danny to develop, I would have enjoyed the romance more.

Overall A Cowboy Like You was a good read and I will definitely be checking out the other books in the series sometime soon.

Those of you familiar with the series know Danny Oldman, the sheriff who has given up on love and is all business and no play. There has only been one woman whom he hasn’t been able to forget and she is a distant memory, his high school crush, Skylar Long.

Skylar Long moved to Houston to pursue a career and live the big city life. Little did she know that her boyfriend Matt is an abusive lier. On the run from him, she finds herself in the one place where she knows that she will be safe, her hometown. As luck would have it, just as she is about to be trapped and beaten, Danny comes to her rescue. He was always an honourable man and she knows that if there’s one man who can keep her safe, it’s Danny.

With Matt’s rich and influential family on her heels, Skylar finds refuge at the East Ranch. And even though she is wary of putting Danny and everyone he loves in danger, Danny has no intention of letting Skylar go this time and neither do the rest of his clan.

Donna Grant is back with another heartwarming addition to her Heart of Texas series. There are still many more single characters in the series that I can’t wait to see paired off. Can’t wait!!!

The Heart of Texas series always has a heartwarming story to tell, and A Cowboy Like You is no different. This time we get Sheriff Danny's story, a story that takes him back to his high school crush and the girl that's never far from his mind. Skylar finds Danny her hero as she's trying to get away from her abusive and powerful ex-boyfriend. We get to see characters from previous books which I love as the new characters develop a relationship amid a suspenseful sub-plot. I do feel like the story could have had more to it. The characters were not fully-developed and some of the plot-points felt contrived, but an entertaining read none-the-less.

I absolutely LOVE Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series! This book features the local sheriff Danny. This hard working cowboy deserves a happily ever! He's strong, loyal and has such an amazing heart!

Skylar is trying to escape her abusive ex-boyfriend and when she's finally free, he finds her. Thankfully, Danny is there to intervene and save the day. Danny is just so freakin' dreamy! Skylar needs help and Danny and his friends are right there to pitch in! I love this tight nit group!

Danny and Sklyar have an easy and slow-burning chemistry which helped to balance the suspenseful aspect of the story. I enjoyed reading it and was so happy to revisit previous characters of the series! This small Texas town book series has a special place in my heart! I'm looking forward to the next one!

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This type of book with a second chance romance is one of my favorite types but not sure if a teenage crush qualifies for a second chance story! I am not real fond of domestic abuse stories so that part was not my favorite.

I did enjoy the drama and intrigue as Danny and Skylar try to get past her abusive ex and his attempts to either get her back or make her pay. It was great that Danny had a whole cast of friends to help him try to keep Skylar safe and to figure out how to thwart his rich families attempt to bury his arrest and his history of abusing his girlfriends.

Don’t want to give away any of the story but I did have to skim the part where Danny was abducted as I don’t like that type of hurt.

Great HEA, and really did like the other characters in the book and their story. I really want to read more about them so I may have to look for future books or see if any of them have a previous book out.

Destiny… that’s the first word that came to mind after reading “A Cowboy Like You” by Donna Grant. Danny Oldman and Skylar Long knew each other in high school. They even had a crush on each other, but they never acted on it.

Now, as adults, they met again under inopportune circumstance, but it turned out that it was just destiny’s way for them to find that true love had always been there for them. They just need to grab it.

Skylar was running away from an abusive relationship when she realized that she went to her hometown to find refuge. And though it was a surprise by itself, the bigger shocker is that she was rescued by her high school crush Danny Oldman.

The town sheriff, Danny Oldman did not date and he lived alone. Many believe that he was married to his job. In a way he was; but once in a while, he thought of Skylar and wonder what might have been if he had the courage to ask her out.

Then, out of the blue, Skylar was back, and Danny found himself ready to do whatever it takes to protect her. He also vowed that he would use this second chance given to him to finally tell her how what he felt.

But first, they have to do battle with one of the richest and one of the influential families in the Greater Houston-Galveston area of Texas. And with the help of friends, Danny and Skylar face their adversaries head on.

Fortunately for our romantic heroes, they began to form to a closer and tighter relationship that blossomed into love as their mutual childhood crush were reignited.

Aptly titled, “A Cowboy Like You” is a sweet and easy read. Danny and Skylar, our romantic heroes are both very likeable.

“A Cowboy Like You” is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance strongly advised due to some violence and some sex scenes which are not graphic.

Another cowboy Sheriff? Count me in!! This is my first story by Donna Grant and I'm glad that I took a chance on this artist. A Sheriff cowboy is slowly, but surely, is becoming my favorite hero. I also learned that this is part of a series and I have to admit that I have not read the other installments in the series. Luckily for me, this can be read alone and the side characters added to the story.

In this story we have Danny Oldham, the cowboy sheriff that I mention earlier, and he is at the right place at the right time when he crosses paths with his high school crush, Skylar. Skylar is on the run from an abusive, psychotic ex who will stop at nothing to make Skylar his again. Right before this crazy ex gets Skylar in his grip, Danny comes to the rescue and ensures that Skylar is safe from harm. This is a story of having a second chance at love even in the midst of chaos.

I genuinely enjoyed this story and Danny and Skylar had great chemistry. I was kept on the edge of my toes with the action and also kept in my feelings with the sweetness of their relationship. Danny was one of the sweetest heroes that I have ever read. He was the sheriff of the town and he did so much to ensure that Skylar was safe. Not to mention that Danny had such good friends who would bend their backs for him. Skylar has returned home after trying to escape the clutches of an abusive ex from Houston, Texas. While Danny was kind and resourceful, Skylar was a damsel in distress who made such stupid decisions to me. The author really doesn't really go into their back stories. In spite of this, I enjoyed the story and I really enjoyed the development of their relationship.

I really don't have much negative things to say about this story besides the actions of Skylar at some points during the story. Although I enjoyed their romance, their wasn't anything unique or awesome about it and it didn't give me that ooey gooey feeling that I yearn for in romance story and that is why I have to give it a 4 Star rating. This story is highly recommended though with tea and a blanket.

3 stars. A Cowboy like You was the first book I’ve read in this series and while can be read as a stand alone, the characters from the previous books play large secondary roles. I think I’m at a disadvantage for not reading the others as I didn’t quite feel the connection to characters. Danny is a small town sherif who is spending his nights drinking and lonely. His friends are concerned but he’s fine. He doesn’t have a drinking problem, but admits it takes more and more to get him drunk. Not exactly the qualities I want in my sherif. He happens to be eating his dinner in his truck when he realizes that a woman needs his help to get away from an abusive man. Skyler is running from her ex and she just happened to run home. Luck has it that Danny, someone she went to high school with, happens to be there to save her.

While dealing with trying to get away from the abusive ex, Skyler and Danny begin a relationship. While I get they went to HS together and Danny had a crush on her, this happened a little to fast for me. I get that timing isn’t always perfect, but this was a little to quick to believe considering what she’s going through and that Danny knows better.

The secondary characters were lovely and really went out of their way to make Skyler feel safe. I’m actually interested in reading the first books in this series and will give the next one a chance.

Thank you to SMP for the opportunity to review this ARC for my honest (if not late) review.

It's been a while since I read a book by Donna Grant and this didn't disappoint. It was a plus because I read others in this series and enjoyed reading more about these people. Although part of a series this can be read as a standalone story. It's her skill with characterization that helps make this suspenseful romance a success.

Skyler's ex comes from a wealthy family who have covered up his indiscretions over the years. Their wealthiest enables them to pay off political fruends, police officers, and judges. But there's no accounting for the support in a small town, where the county sheriff and police chief are held in high regard. They come together along with a group of friends (all ex military) to help capture Skyler's ex.

A great story that I recommend if you like action, suspense, and romance in a cowboy story!

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

A Cowboy Like You is a romantic suspense novel with our heroine, Skylar, on the run from her obsessive and abusive boyfriend. Danny, the hot sheriff, comes to the rescue of the girl he always had a crush on in school.

The portrayal of Skyler’s ex is spot on in terms of being controlling and abusive. There are a few scenes that might be difficult to read due to some violence but it’s certainly not overwhelming to the plot. The biggest violent scene doesn’t involve Skyler at all if that’s a trigger for readers.

The book moves fairly quickly most of the time with a few places that drag. I’ve never read Donna Grant before and this clearly has previous books related to side characters. I still found it easy to follow, though. There are some great sexy times and Danny is just flat out wonderful. I was also proud of Skyler for standing up for herself and removing herself from a bad situation.

I wasn’t necessarily wowed by anything in the story but it was entertaining. If you’re a fan of cowboys, this is worth a read.

Donna Grant has written a brilliant story full of everything one would expect from the synopsis and cover.

In addition to modern, charming and likeable characters in Danny and Skyler, there's a fast paced plot with some exciting adventure and drama on the side. It's really delightful and I enjoyed the plot and the turn the page suspense. You know Danny is going to save the day and I wasn't disappointed.

I really really liked this story and it's made me want to look up Donna Grant's other Heart of Texas's books.

Highly recommended.

A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant resonated deep with me. It talked about a lot of issues such as stalking and relationship abuse. Women being abused by men-especially men with power and money. I liked how the play of small-town loyalty and real respect was shown in this book. Sometimes, the big and powerful players can force a small-town's hands. In this book, it was not the case. I truly enjoyed reading this novel.

I liked how the play of small-town loyalty and real respect was shown in this book. Sometimes, the big and powerful players can force a small-town's hands. In this book, it was not the case. I truly enjoyed reading this novel. Women need to speak up more. To be heard, they cannot remain silent hoping it will go away. Abusers never stop. Until they're forced by the law. Even then, it can be a battle.

The bubbling romance between the two protagonists was done well. I could feel the tug of pull between them. It was irresistible. They were charming, funny, and real. I enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions this book dealt.

Overall, it was a great journey. I recommend this tale to fans of Nora Roberts, Carla Neggers, and Brenda Novak. This was a romantic, heartfelt, and deep read. The domestic violence and abuse was real and a real reminder to all women out in the world. Donna Grant has a way of capturing her audience and keeping them coming back for more. I can't wait to read another book by her!
