An great story and narration by Brenda Jackson, and would expect nothing short of a page turning romance.

Duty or Desire is the conundrum that Pete Higgins is faced with, when he hires Myra Hollister as his niece's nanny. Attractions sparks and flares into passion, but the couple have demons to put to rest before they can find a future. A good read and a nice addition to Brenda's Westmoreland series.

Duty or Desire was a good read but something was missing in the story. I thought the plot of the story was good and was hoping to have more unraveling of what the nanny was going through. I loved her character because she was spunky and said what she thought and didn’t let anything bring her down. Now as far as the Sheriff I couldn’t believe how he treated a woman that wanted to take care of his niece. He was fighting his feelings for her and was judging her by her looks rather than her experience. That is how it usually happens when love at first sight but she was going to tear down those walls that he built around his heart. Pete and Myra are going to have their moments of passion but in the end can they live happily ever after. Myra is still keeping something from him and that is going to hurt Pete because of how his fiancé died will he be able to see past that and stay with Myra.

As I've learned to expect, a beautifully written and fun read. Jackson writes wonderfully believable stories with flawed but truly good heroes and heroines

3.25 rating

A young petite hazel eyed 24 year old is the temporary nanny for a 36 6’3 broad shouldered sexy Sheriff. Now, what could go wrong there. There wasn’t much of a story here. It was the same old same. The sexy parts were awkward and a bit unrealistic, in my opinion. We were given two really good subplots that were wrapped up quickly and without depth. I wanted the author to go into the backstory of Baron, Myra’s deranged brother and his crazy mother Charlene, but I knew at 86% in that I would be disappointed with a quick and tidy wrap up.

However, there may be promise in Garth Outlaw and Regan’s story released in December 2020.

Duty or Desire is utterly full of steamy goodness. I could not put this book down!

Sheriff Peterson Higgins is one sexy man with a heart of gold and a sweet spot for his niece. Fiancée Ellen was killed by a stalker and his only sibling Brother & wife were killed in a car crash, leaving Pete to raise their daughter. Pete could not risk his heart again his Niece Ciara was counting on him.

Myra Hollister is positive she has never truly come up against any person like Sheriff Higgins, sure he was handsome, but there was more to this man. I liked Myra right from the start. Sure she has secrets that she’s not willing to share, not even with to Pete. I enjoyed the effect Myra has on Pete, his is gentler when he is with her.

Pete and Myra definitely challenge one another. Their witty commentary in their first meeting had me chuckling. I enjoy just how Ms.Jackson keeps us as readers on our toes. No romance between her hero and heroine will ever be predictable. Pete is exactly what he seems, loving, and loyal to all who matter. Myra is a doll for sure, but she has secrets that could possibly ruin her in the end.

Supporting characters are as always wonderful, it’s really nice to catch up with everyone in previous books in the The Westmoreland Legacy. Cousins, Friends only aid in making Duty or Desire more delightful. I always enjoy when things come back onto the ones who least expect it. *grins* Pete’s niece Ciara is ever so lovable,I for one cant wait to see her as a teen. *grins*

The plot of Duty or Desire is what Brenda Jackson does best, romance with a slice of suspense. It’s finally best friend Peterson’s chance at happiness, even though he claims to have everything he could possibly want, he has yet met the sweetness of Myra Hollister. The Westmoreland’s and extended family have no issues in telling Pete what they think Pete should do in the masters of his heart, but the question is will the little lady in question, drop kick his heart back at him?

Rated 5 Stilettos and a Recommended Read by Deb!

Pete Higgins and Myra Hollister have all the boxes checked making them both perfect candidates in their careers. With all his skills in protection, this endearing hero had no defense strategy against the confident and beautiful Myra when it came to matters of the heart.

During the interview for Nanny, there was no denying the intensity of their chemistry, but for various reasons they were both determined to try.

I enjoyed the banter between them and the revisit with the Westmoreland clans, but it was the mystery behind Myra’s reasons for being in Denver that gave this one a little extra intrigue.

Delectably delicious! With DUTY OR DESIRE (the fifth book in The Westmoreland Legacy series) Brenda Jackson brings us the ultimate of heroes ... he's a lawman, he's loyal, he's ruggedly handsome ... and he simply melted this readers heart!

Sheriff Pete Higgins is an attention grabbing character. He's strong and fierce in his love and protection for those he cares about, but he's easily soft and tender when showering love on his infant niece. He was easy to like, enjoyable and heartwarming.

Myra was likable right from the start. She has secrets that she's not sharing, but they aren't detrimental to Pete and their relationship. I liked the gentleness she brought out in him and the way she brought him back to life again.

I highly recommend this story for anyone who loves a secure man who simply melts when the right woman comes along. There were some fireworks along the way, but their relationship was a slow, steady burn and oh so satisfying. Great character development, a fast paced story line and just enough drama to keep us guessing. I really enjoyed Pete and Myra!

Another story in the Westmoreland series. Pretty standard romance in the usual story by Brenda Jackson. Straightforward and fun to read. If you're a fan of the author's work, you'll like this one too.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

Who are Bonnie, Pete, and Kyra? How do they know one another? Why does Bonnie ask Myra to lunch? Who is Baron? Why is he so disliked? What happens when Wallace calls Myra? I like Bonnie a lot. She and Myra both seem to like Cirara and Ciara likes them right back! Who is she? Who is Flipper and how does he know Bane Westmoreland? What does Flipper do that keeps Pete from having to get up every 20 minutes? I had a really deep belly laugh when I read about that one!!! I had to chuckle about the Westmoreland clan! Oh my goodness, what Baron and his mother Charlene had planned blew my mind! Wait for the ending!

Brenda Jackson’s Westmoreland men are back with another scintillating and sensuous romantic adventure guaranteed to make temperatures hit the roof – even in winter! In Duty or Desire, honorary Westmoreland Pete Higgins finds himself tempted by a woman with plenty of dangerous secrets: Myra Hollister.

After the tragic end of his last serious relationship, Pete Higgins had vowed to keep his heart firmly under lock and key and to consign relationships to the past. Peter had met the love of his life already and nobody could possible match up to her regardless of how hard he tried. With his duty as a sheriff, a busy social life and plenty of good friends around him, Pete’s life is a busy one and it got busier when he found himself talking care of his orphaned niece, Ciara. Thanks to a good family friend, Pete has been able to have a nanny he can trust to bring up his beloved niece, but when family commitments require her to leave her job, she lines up the perfect replacement: Myra Hollister, a woman who reawakens feelings deep within Pete which he thought long-buried.
One look at Myra tells Pete all he needs to know about her: that she is trouble with a capital T. Although Pete knows that he should give Myra as wide a berth as possible, he is absolutely desperate, and besides with her skills and qualifications, Myra is more than qualified to look after Ciara. Yet, it is not his niece Pete has to worry about as he finds unable to stop himself from thinking about her – or from wanting to take her in his arms and kiss her…

For the first time in ages, Myra feels like she has finally found a place where she belongs. She adores her young charge and her uncle is absolutely gorgeous! Giving into temptation soon proves inevitable for Myra and Pete, but when secrets of the past threaten their fledgling happiness, will their relationship have any hope of surviving when all the odds are stacked against them?

With Duty or Desire, Ms Jackson has once again penned a red-hot contemporary romance I read in a single sitting. Sexy, emotional, passionate, powerful and far too good to resist gobbling up, Duty or Desire features a strong and intelligent heroine readers will admire and a gorgeous hero who will make them swoon. Whether you are a devoted Brenda Jackson reader or somebody who is just discovering her work, once you pick up one of her titles, one thing is for certain: you will be hooked for life!

Duty or Desire has heat oozing off the pages. If I didn't already have a thing for cowboys, I do now! Pete is strong and sexy in all the right ways - and Myra is beautiful, strong, and confident. Together they make a fire that'll keep you warm through the coldest days of winter. I have to admit I couldn't put this one down. So grab your favorite bottle of wine and curl up for a wild ride that's both sweet and sensuous.

Pete is a Sheriff who finds himself the guardian of his infant niece Ciara after his brother and sister in-law pass away. When his nanny has to spend a few months with her sister who is ill he finds himself in need of a nanny and Myra credentials are perfect but his attraction to her isn’t.

Myra needs to keep a low profile in the hopes that her family won’t track her down until it is time for her to return to her hometown. The opportunity to be Ciara’s nanny seems like the perfect solution, but she wasn’t counting on her attraction to Pete. There is no denying the chemistry between them but is Pete ready to move on from his past and accept Myra into his life and his heart?

It is always fun to re-visit the experience the close relationship that the Westmoreland’s share and this story is no different.

Really enjoyed this book. Pete and Myra had an instant attraction that made me smile. I enjoyed watching the both of them try to avoid it. The ending was good. A nice little bit extra to the plot.

Pete Higgins is an honorary Westmoreland who takes over custody of his orphaned niece. He needs to hire a temporary nanny and finds himself tempted by a much younger Myra Hollister. They both assure each other that they have nothing to worry about -- since both say that they are not each other's type. But time will prove them wrong. But will keeping dangerous secrets jeopardize newly established feelings?

DUTY OR DESIRE features Peterson “Pete” Higgins, the sheriff in the county of Denver where the Westmoreland Clan resides. His character has appeared in a number of stories that feature members of the Westmoreland family, so he is considered an “honorary Westmoreland”.
Pete and Myra’s romantic encounters are more reserved and lack that spontaneous combustion that we have come to expect from Brenda Jackson’s hero and heroine. When Pete and Myra first meet, there are some red flags that pop up that Pete can not dismiss. It makes for an interesting plot point, but Myra’s backstory proves to be more intriguing than Pete’s. I’ll let you discover why Myra is really in Denver.
I enjoyed DUTY OR DESIRE, but Pete and Myra will not be in my top ten for most memorable couples. Nevertheless, I recommend this story. After all, it’s Brenda Jackson, and you can’t go wrong! Enjoy!

I have been a big fan of the Westmoreland men and have been waiting, very patiently, for more and more.. Pete (very handsome black man) with unwavering faith meets Myra Hollister, a nanny taking care of his niece, who was left with no parents. The back and forth between them. The hard fight that Pete is performing to avoid Myra. Myra hiding all kinds of drama, is what make Brenda Jackson one of the best romance writers in the world. I was late for the work the next day finishing the book and it was worth it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Romance (U.S. & Canada) and HQN for the advance reader copy, Duty or Desire by exciting romance author, Brenda Jackson, in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this 5th book in the Westmoreland Legacy series (I have read 1 other in the series and boy do I love those Westmoreland men!). I fell in love with Sheriff Pete Higgins, an honorary Westmoreland, as he struggles with his scruples. He is honest, upright, but still grieving over his dead fiancée, and has crafted a life he loves with his young stepdaughter. When his nanny must leave to care for an ailing family member, she does not leave him without a nanny but instead names Myra Hollister as the perfect choice. Pete is drawn to the beautiful, kind, Myra and has major misgivings about his attraction toward Myra and what it might do to his carefully constructed life. I could not stop turning the pages of this ebook as I rooted for Pete and Myra to find their way to love and each other. I enjoy the steamy novels of Brenda Jackson; her worlds, her characters, and the plots are all deliciously sinful to read and enjoy! This latest Brenda Jackson romance was a thrill and guilty pleasure.

Pete is an officer of the law who is determined never to fall in love again. Myra is a nanny-whisperer who needs a temporary place to stay. She moves into Pete's home to care for his niece but gains so much more. Pete and Myra's relationship developed over time where they each had to shed issues from the past to hold onto love. I found Book #5 a good read. Thank you, Netgalley.
