Absolutely loved this book. Its my first time reading a book by this author but after reading this I’m going to get his other books. He seamlessly combined politics, spying, the Middle East extremely well into a carefully crafted story that had a lot of human interest and being a Christ follower.
Not a lot of fiction is written about Middle Eastern Christians and set in today’s turbulent times. This is one of the few I’ve ever read.
.It does start off slow but after reading reviews I realized I should try reading Chosen People first.

Robert Whitlow is one of my favorite authors. The subjects he chooses to write about are always interesting and I often learn something new. He writes from a Christian viewpoint but is not preachy.

The Promised Land has mystery, intrigue, family dynamics and Middle East politics to keep the reader interested. The characters are skillfully crafted and believable. One of the themes is the importance of hope for peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the Middle East. We see in the news almost everyday what happens when hate is allowed to fester. If you haven't read the first book Chosen People it takes awhile to get into the story but it's worth the effort to stay with the story.

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I am a huge fan of Robert Whitlow. I have read several of his books. He is a masterful story teller. This book is definitely not my favorite. I had a difficult time getting into the story and relating to the characters. To me, it drug on it was hard to keep interested. About two-thirds of the way through, the main characters Hana and Daud finally came alive for me and I enjoyed the story more. Maybe I am not as “worldly “ as I think I am. I won’t stop reading Mr. Whitlow’s books- I might even go back and read JIMMY again ~ my favorite book ever to get my prospective back. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union for allowing me to read an advance copy for my honest review of this book.

An excellent sequel makes me wish I’d read the first book first. The main characters show us that our citizenship is not really here on earth as they blend American, Israeli, Arab, and Christianity all together in an excellent blend of adventure, intrigue, and faith. Robert Whitlow novels are always winners, but this one moves the bar even higher.

At first when I read the description of Promised Land I had a lot of expectations of inspiration from this book and I am glad to say that I was not disappointed. Robert Whitlow does a phenomenal job correlating each chapter creating a flow that is easy to grasp and easy to love. The back stories of Daud and Hana are so strikingly motivating that it made me love the story more and got a lot of life lessons throughout the book which is a wonderful thing for our community. Our Christian Fiction collection is very popular and I know based on the end result of Promised Land, they are sure to love this book.

We will consider adding this title to our Christian Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

PROMISED LAND by ROBERT WHITLOW follows on from Chosen People.
The novel can stand alone, but it will mean more to you if you read Chosen People first. It is a legal thriller, full of intrigue, suspense, and life and death moments. It is also a story about relationships, especially with regard to trusting the Lord and one another, and has a beautiful Christian message running through it.
Hana Abboud and Daud Hasan are newly married and living in Atlanta, where Hana works for a prestigious Jewish law firm. She is fluent in Arabic and Hebrew, which makes her extra valuable, as they have many Middle Eastern clients.
Daud is a former Shin Bet operative and now works in setting up security for businesses in America and the Middle East. He also does some undercover work for the CIA.
The story takes place largely between America and Israel. Hana and Daud ask the Lord where their promised land is - should they stay in Atlanta or move to Jerusalem? Because of Daud's past, both places are dangerous for them. My favourite words in the book describe Hana, when she finally overcomes her constant fear that something is going to happen to Daud - "The promised land within her soul had become conquered land, and those who lived in conquered land could be at peace. More than ever, Jesus was her Prince of Peace."
It is a story of reconciliation, and, when Hana is asked by her Jewish boss to speak at an interfaith forum on Israel, she is prepared to tell her story as a Christian Arab whose family has lived in Israel for four hundred years, close to Nazareth where Jesus grew up.
I found the book most inspirational, exciting, and altogether enjoyable. It is a book that I will read more than once and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
