101 Quilting Tips & Tricks Pocket Guide is a small pocket sized book containing tips and tricks for making the creative process and execution easier and more effective. Released 15th Oct 2019 by Fox Chapel, it's a trim 48 pages (3.8 x 0.3 x 5.8 inches) and available in paperback format.

The book has an easy to read graphic layout and is arranged logically. Each tip is numbered sequentially (and yes, there are 101 of them). They are arranged in sections: organization, sewing machine tips, rotary cutting mats, cutting processes, notions, picking projects, fabric choices and placement, construction, different techniques (applique, piecing, embroidery, binding, etc), decorating, and other miscellaneous tips.

For a tiny book, the photography and illustrations are surprisingly high quality. There are some process photos (like the magenta and gold fabric cutting photo at the end which had my fingers itching to start stash diving - really appealing color combos). There was no included index, but the tips are short, concise, and precise, so the book probably doesn't need an index.

I also liked that the pictured tools and supplies (sewing machines, irons, notions, etc) weren't all top end ridiculously expensive models. Quilting is an art and craft which should be accessible for everyone.

Well done. Four stars.

This is a great little guide for beginners and advanced quilters alike! It definitely belongs in the book stash of quilting enthusiasts. The tips are all fairly short and many have illustrations. They seem to be arranged in order of difficulty, so the more technical advice comes at the end and won't overwhelm newbies.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC!

The book has lots and lots of simple advice. Mostly for beginners. I liked the way they explain things, simple and to the point. I like how the book is illustrated with tons of quilts.

As a beginning quilter, I found that most of the tips in this book were ones I already knew. I did, however, find a few that were new to me and were very helpful. For most experienced quilters, this wouldn't be a useful book for that reason. However, for someone just starting out, it can be useful.

As an avid quilter of many years experience, there are very few things on the subject that I don’t know. But this little book was so handy on teaching even a quilter such as myself a thing or two. Highly recommend it. 5/5 stars

CONS
I'm not anywhere near starting quilting yet :(

With 101 tips in this pocket guide, everyone will find something that is a new idea for them. I was excited right off the bat when I read tip number 1 that encourages us to use the closet in our sewing room and put projects in a vinyl mesh bag. These bags can be large enough to even fit the pattern or book that holds in instructions. You use a "S" hook on the bag and you can hang a large quantity of projects in one easy space.

Here are some other help hints;

-If you are looking to make a table runner, set your table first and then measure the size of the space that would be optimal for your quilting project.
-Storing rotary cutting mats - keeping your mats flat is key. Consider storing the mat between a mattress and box spring when it's not in use.
-If you have an applique projects with small pieces, consider using batik fabric. The fabric is thin and it is tightly woven making it easy to turn for your project with very little fraying.

101 Quilting Tips & Tricks Pocket Guide is an excellent reference book to have in your quilting library. I am very excited that this book is coming at the perfect time of year to work it into gift baskets for the holiday season. I plan on starting the basket with this pocket guide and then filling the basket with notions, thread, fat quarters, and anything else that fits within my budget for my special quilting friends.

Excellent information, although this is the kind of book that suffers by being formatted (or not) for mobile. Discounting that, though, the tips are great, and this would be a very useful book for a new quilter.

I am a quilter and I love to share tips and tricks with others.
This book is filled with little tricks such as-If you use folding tables, use a smaller table for less vibration when sewing.
I do this unconsciously, but did not think to recommend it to my mother when she was visiting.
Its these little tricks that will help the quilter be able to communicate better with others, when words may have failed them.
Also, my kids will tune me out, even if they love to sew. What is better than giving them a book of tips and tricks written by Penny Haren, with many of your own thoughts and new ones that your children can share with you.

I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
I will be happy to use this book and share it with others. It is written in simple understandable sentences. It is good for an advanced quilter or a new quilter.
I hope you enjoy this book too.

This is a very informative book on tips and tricks for Quilting.
I would say it is more for a new quilter/sewist, as once you start quilting, some of the knowledge is just common knowledge.

But in saying that, if you were a totally new quilter or sewist, this is definitely a great first step in learning all the basic steps, to all the tools and tips on starting on your quilting journey.

As a passionate quilter and would be organised person I enjoyed reading this great little book. Some of the tips I already knew, some had never occurred to me, and some I even do already! Even so, having them altogether in an easy read format written by someone who obviously knows what she is doing and has learned by her mistakes is a great idea and I think I will refer to this quite often.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to any new or experienced quilter as all of us can do with a helping hand with more than just the basics.
