'Fowl Language: Winging It-The Art of Imperfect Parenting' by Brian Gordon is a collection of essays and comics that will look familiar to most folks.

This book is organized in to sections like Babies, Sleep, Holidays, and Growing Up Too Fast. Each section begins with a funny and heartfelt essay, then includes themed comics for the section.

This may be one of the most heartfelt and honest parenting books I've ever read. The author admits his own faults and owns the fact that he is no perfect parent (but who is, really?). Some of the comics feel like repeats from other collections, but that doesn't make them any less funny.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I mean, there's not much to day about Fowl Language. I've been a huge fan ever since I found Gordon on Instagram years ago and I'm not going to stop now. He continues to be funny and clever in the truths of parenting and every day life.

Recommend to all parents and people in general who wants a laugh or five.

Brian Gordon's art style is likely familiar if you spend a heck of a lot of time on Social Media. His family of ducks often feature parents doing their absolute best to just keep their children alive. In his new book, Fowl Language: Winging It, Gordon's characters examine what it means to be a parent and just how difficult it can be to get it even close to correct. The book is delightfully loaded with new content, and easy to whip through while sitting back on a Saturday morning in between the zillion events a parent has to complete on any given weekend.

Fowl Language: Winging It is strangely comforting it it's suggestion that we truly are doing the best we can with the tools we've got.

Fowl Language: Winging It is available from Andrews McMeel now.

A pleasant enough book of themed one-pagers, from a comic artist who has turned himself and his children into ducks, but hardly ever got round to mentioning their mother whatsoever, whether in the strips or the introductory essays. Some chapters here are only going to be for those who really like and empathise with the whole parenting shtick (here's looking at you, the poop section) but on the whole it's warm enough, and easy to connect with. Three and a half stars.

Brian Gordon has nailed this parenting thing. Or at least, the painfully honest - and consequently hilarious - way of depicting it. His latest book is a combination of spot-on comics and humorously insightful essays about everything from potty training to holidays. Gordon may be "Winging It", but we are so glad to be along for the ride!

I have always loved Brian Gordon’s work. I love the realistic approach to parenting in his comics, complete with curse words.

I enjoyed that this book not only included his signature comics, but also included essays on the specific subjects at the beginning of each section. If you’re a parent who gets that humor (and a little cursing) are a must for parenting, this book is for you.

This is a great book. I am biased. I have a couple of Brian's cartoons framed around my house because they make me laugh every time I look at them.

And I don't have children. Think how funny this book will be for you if you are a parent.

Started this last month. But finally finished it and as usual these are super enjoyable and relatable. The distinction this time around were the essays before each section and those were fun to read as well because they revealed the author’s thoughts on it.
I think everyone should read it. All those aunts and uncles as well and not just parents.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this review copy.

Parenting is rewarding and simultaneously difficult. Quirky reads like this is a nice reminder that no one is perfect. When you think you have it figured out, something new makes you feel like a novice again. The book is a funny stocking stuffer, baby shower gift, or just because gift.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. It was different from the other Fowl Language books I have read, but that was not a bad thing. Breaking it down into chapters was clever and the essay before each one was pretty dang funny. Every cartoon had that honesty and humor that always makes me laugh. Whether you are a parent or not I suggest you check this book out.

Parenting is hard. Ask anyone who has ever raised kids, or who is currently raising them, they'll tell you - it is damn hard. Anyone who disagrees is probably either childless, delusional, or lying.

Parenting is a full-contact sport where the parent juggles multiple roles. Not only are they the players, but they are also the coach, the referee and the spectators. Also, since the kids keep aging, the rules are constantly changing. Sound like a fun sport?

I swear most parenting books were written with the singular goal of making parents feel completely inept and like they are total failures. That is why the world NEEDS Brian Gordon and his FOWL LANGUAGE COMICS.

Laughter is the best medicine. (Think Robin Williams in the movie Patch Adams ... If you don't know what I am talking about, you need to watch the movie ASAP.) It has been scientifically proven that laughing reduces stress levels which is where FOWL LANGUAGE: WINGING IT: THE ART OF IMPERFECT PARENTING by Brian Gordon comes in.

The characters he draws might be ducks, but each comic is based on real world situations. Situations that most parents can relate to. It is this relatability that will have readers literally laughing out loud.

This book is the perfect gift for any occasion, from baby showers to Christmas and Birthday gifts all the way to hostess gifts, this book is perfect. Also, if you are lucky enough to have still living grandparents, you have to buy them a copy of this book. If my Dad were still alive (Cancer SUCKS) he would love this book. Oh, and get a copy for yourself. Put it on your coffee table when other parents are coming over. It is a great conversation starter.

I rate FOWL LANGUAGE: WINGING IT: THE ART OF IMPERFECT PARENTING by Brian Gordon as more than 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was approved for a copy and before I could download it, the book was archived.

I love this comic creator and I have no doubts this book is amazing, just wish I was able to read it.

I'm giving this a default 5 stars because I adore the Fowl Language comments, but I wasn't able to read it because the title literally archived less than an HOUR after I hit the "read it!" button. What the heck, Netgalley...

I have loved Gordon's comics online for ages and was so excited to see a book being published. I'm thrilled to say that I was not disappointed. It's laugh-out-loud funny and will be appreciated by anyone who has kids, knows kids, or was once a kid.

A collection of comics on parenting organized by topic. Each section starts with the comic artist’s reflections on the topic and his own parenting experiences.

I’m not a parent, but I have several friends and family members who are. And I also work with kids for an occupation so I definitely get the humor even without experiencing these situations as a parent. I could’ve done without some of the swearing (it would’ve been just as funny without it), but I guess the name should’ve clued me in. My favorite parts were the comparison of infants and despots in their torture methods, and taking toddlers or cats to restaurants. Definitely funny. Parents and kids who work with kids will likely find many of these make them laugh out loud.

Notes on content [based on ARC]: Mild swearing throughout, moderate swearing about once per chapter, and 7-8 strong swears. No sexual content. No violence. There’s a whole section on alcohol consumption.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I first encountered Brian Gordon's Fowl Language comics online, being shared on social media. Gordon puts clever jokes in the mouths, er, beaks of ducks, including an adorable yellow boy duckling and pink girl duckling. Many of his spare panel-style comics involve parenting those little ducklings. It is, as Gordon states several times in this collection, a challenge.

Chapters collect several comics under a topical heading with a brief essay by Gordon. The chapters reflect the chronological stages of parenting, from "Babies", "Sleeping", and "Pooping" to "Siblings" and "School" to "Growing Up Too Fast". You don't have to be a parent to enjoy the strips--I'm not--but it likely helps. This will make an amusing gift book for parents of young children.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I'm a big fan of Brian Gordon's Fowl Language Comics, and this book does not disappoint. It is completely relatable, which makes it very funny. My husband and I laughed out loud reading these comics together. This would make the perfect gift for new parents!

In this age of online parenting shaming I think it's important for all parents to have a book like this to remind them that we are all facing the same challenges and none of us is the "perfect" parent. I enjoyed the short chapter intros with the author writing about his own challenges as a parent - they add a authenticity to the actual comics. I would definitely recommend this to parents-to-be as well as seasoned parents.

This has been my favorite installment of Fowl Language. The comics are hilarious and spot-on and the chapter introductions have so much tenderness and really help the reader connect with the author and appreciate the comics more deeply.

This book is brilliant. It perfectly portraits a family with kids. The shenanigans and everything you get when you sign up to be a parent. It is funny, quirky and heartfelt. Totally can relate to everything as a person who used to work as a nanny, cannot recommend it high enough. Every person should read.
