Such an uplifting and emotional read about our faithful companions and cherishing their senior years. This author feels the same way as I do about dogs and at times I have struggled to cope with their passing. If this book had been around when my last dog went to the kennel in the sky perhaps the hole in my heart would not have been so unbearable.
Some of my favourite parts of this book are as follows. The chapter titled Life Goes On and two quotes which have stayed with me. Firstly ‘we need courage to forgive ourselves’ and ‘our old dogs are wise to the secret of happiness: give me a bone and I will be happy: give me a place in your heart and you will be happy’ (Loc 2361). The acknowledgements were a bonus as they provided some interesting additional reading. The letter written by a young child and its reply moved me to tears in my lunchbreak at work. Tears which I quickly wiped away in came someone noticed! I also enjoyed the black and white photos of senior dogs. The wisdom referred to by the author seemed to shine through their eyes. This book opened my heart to the thought becoming a dog owner again and also lifted the lid on memories of past canine companions.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes dogs. Be warned! Be prepared to get the tissues out at some stage. We definitely can learn a lot from dogs.
I want to thank the author for writing this book and sharing the love she has for her dogs. I also want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review

Really enjoyed reading this book. Well written and beautiful to read. We often take our dogs for granted and miss those subtle changes as they grow older. We miss so much and then its too late.
Loved this book

This is a lovely though provoking books which would make an excellent gift for any ageing dog lover! the author has real insight into the experience of loving your dog and being =so devoted to their happiness that not amount of anthropomorphic sentimentality is off putting!! I really really enjoyed this book - and will definitely be buying it for a number of friends as a gift.
