Break the Silence, is the seventh police procedural book in Black Rock Falls Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane series. Jenna and Kane back after well earned vacation are welcomed to a rape and murder case in the college campus followed by another death . Are these deaths accidents or is there another serial killer in town?

Break the Silence is another well written with skillfully drawn characters , a tightly woven plot by D.K.Hood and a great addition to the series. Looking forward to reading the next one!

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

This is already the 7th book in the Kane and Alton series, and having read all the previous ones, I can say with confidence, they just keep on getting better and better. I love the relationship between the two and the way they solve crimes together. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good, thrilling and entertaining read!

4 Stars from me

This is a fast paced, classic thriller which will keep you turning the pages late into the night on your quest to see the bad guy(s) caught.

I thought the descriptive intro and scene setting were excellent and hugely atmospheric. Chrissie was wonderfully described.

The relationship between the two main detectives was added a nice frisson rather then overshadowing the whole story, which I liked.

This is a really SOLID 4 stars - I have to be honest and say I dropped a star for a couple of reasons. One because it was super obvious to me who the killer was and two because I felt things got slightly (and I do mean slightly) muddled towards the end.

But that does not detract from the fact that this is a good solid thriller and I will definitely look out for more books by this author.

I can't believe we have reached Book 7 of this amazing series which just goes from strength to strength. It's obvious from the previous books in the series that they've been through a lot together (and it is referenced in Break The Silence ) and I love the relationship they have with each other which is like family, and this also makes them feel like family to me.

Break The Silence is once again set in Black Rock Falls. Although the descriptions of the area are, as always, incredibly vivid and beautiful, this novel is slightly different to the others in that it is set in the busier college environment. This allowed Hood to build in several characters who quickly became suspects, allowing the reader the opportunity to guess what might have happened.

As Break The Silence nears its end, there is a lot more tension as the situation Alton and Kane find themselves in becomes more dangerous. But this is where these characters excel, always having each other's back, and I was desperate to see how they would get out of this one!

The novel does focus on the issue of rape, and at times, this makes it difficult to read. The ending, particularly, is poignant, and whilst it is not what I would have expected, I do appreciate the author doing something a little different

I can’t believe this is the seventh book in this series featuring Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. This is a great series and I always eagerly await a new book. Break the Silence has a dark and violent storyline and deals with the subject of rape. A student, Chrissie Lowe, was found dead in her shower. Did she kill herself or was she murdered? Whilst asking themselves this, Jenna and David find out that she had been to a party which was being held by the college football team and had been gang raped there. Soon other bodies turn up and they are all members of the football team who were suspected of being involved in the gang rape. The lead player of the team is their chief suspect but proving this will be difficult. Jenna and David are struggling to charge anyone and become frustrated with their lack of progress. The tension builds as Medical Examiner Wolfe’s daughter Emily, is brought in by them to act as the next potential rape victim. Can they hopefully catch the killer without endangering Emily’s life? This was a gripping, fast paced thriller based on a. Why sensitive subject. There were lots of twists, turns and red herrings thrown in with an unexpected ending, don’t miss reading this series and this book,
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

The reason my review of this is so late is because I ended up reading the whole series so that I could read it in order and oh wow what a read. I am in love with this series. It is everything I look for. The main characters are all amazing and the chemistry between Kane and Jenna adds to the story. I love that the team is one big family and we get to learn about them all and it’s set in such a gorgeous place. Also if you are a fan of the more gruesome murders and twisted killers then this is the series for you.

Break the Silence is book 7 and it did not disappoint. It had the usual fast pace and abundance of tension. I never seem to be able to guess who the killer is in this series, which is rare for me. It had me hooked until the very last page and I am so sad that I am now up to date. I need more Kane & Alton asap.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Alton and Kane arrive back from a break to a suspected suicide of a college student. Her autopsy reveals she was drugged and gang raped prior to her death. Did Chrissie kill herself due to the trauma of her final hours or was she murdered to keep her quiet?
Soon, other students are found dead and again it is unclear if the deaths are suspicious. All of the men killed were suspected of being involved in the gang rape. The lead player of the football team is a potential victim or killer, but which is he?
Jenna Alton is horrified by the idea of a serial killer but also the despicable rapes of drugged women. Her sympathy with the murdering of the football team is limited, especially as they are all being secretive to avoid prosecution for the sex crimes.
Medical examiner Wolfe’s family are brought into danger again when Seth from the football team decides he wants Emily to be the next rape victim. This causes tension within the police team and serves to make the situation more urgent and personal.
The plot is fast paced and compelling from the beginning and I was instantly hooked. We see viewpoints from the police, victims and murderer so we can see the effect of the crimes from multiple perspectives, and gives us an emotional link to the events.
Alton and Kane’s relationship is still simmering at the friendship stage but I hope they find happiness together soon!
This book can be read on its own or as part of the series. The police team characters have past cases to bind them together but the mentions in the book will make you want to read those other books rather than detract from the current case.

I love this series of books, and this one didn’t disappoint. Kane and Alton find themselves investigating the death of a young girl, who has been raped then committed suicide. Everything seems to point to the captain of the college football team, but as his team mates gradually die in suspicious circumstances, they’re not so sure.
The story is fast paced and I ended up suspecting everyone!
Alongside the action, is the story of Kane and Alton’s deepening friendship and their police “family”. Can’t wait until the next one

Nothing gives a thrill and chill like a Detective Kane and Alton Book. As the series has progressed the setting and atmosphere of each of the books gets crazy thrilling, at least for me! Break the Silence is a thrilling, captivating and an absolutely brilliant read. Detectives Jenna, Kane and even Wolfe and family are proving to be a formidable force against the psychos making their way to Black Rock Falls. This book, in particular, has brutally horrific crimes committed against its residents and we see Alton and Kane race against time to save the day.

When the body of Chrissie Lowe is discovered by her roommate, in her bathroom, it appears as if Chrissie ended her life by slitting her wrists. Except that Chrissie was never suicidal. All Chrisie did was attend a party thrown by a popular quarterback on campus, the previous night. Jenna and Kane are immediately on the scene to find out what went wrong. Soon another party-goer is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Sheriff Alton is convinced the two murders are related and digs deeper to find a connection between Chrissie and the murdered boy. Soon the body count increases and Jenna must find the killer before any more people are killed.

I loved all the characters in this book. Jenna and Kane really shone through the entire book. Earlier I was skeptical about the possible romance blossoming between the two - given that Alton and Kane work beside each other day in and out, it's natural that they might start to develop strong feelings towards each other. However, for now they still decide to keep things professional and I kind of like that about them. The two main characters falling in love with each other is kind of cliched, in my book, I would have liked to see the two share a deep friendship with playful banter and not necessarily end up with each other. But there's still time for this part of the storyline to develop and I cant wait to see what D. K. Hood has in store for both of them. The plot of the book is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. While it might not have been as twisty as I generally come to expect, it had a lot of action which I absolutely enjoyed! I found the book to be absolutely unputdownable in the last 25%.

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture and D. K. Hood for an arc!

Wow can’t believe this is #7 In the series and what a brilliant series it is !!!!!

We are back in Blackrock Falls after a party hosted by the football team ends in tragedy when student Chrissie Lowe is found dead after an apparent suicide. However after the autopsy it seems that she was drugged and raped. While Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are investigating the case, three more bodies are found in suspicious circumstances and all three are footballers who attended the party that fateful night!!!! Fellow footballer Seth Lyons is the prime suspect but as he has rich parents paying to keep his record clean Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane certainly have their work cut out trying to break the silence !!!!!

An excellent gripping and at times disturbing read by one of my favourite authors I highly recommend this book!!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and DK Hood for the arc of Break The Silence my review is honest and unbiased.

I enjoyed this one as I usually do in this series because the characters are intelligent and not foolhardy. Well thought out and interesting through the end
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

Chrissie Lowe, a freshman at college, is beyond excited when a senior, the captain of the football team, invites her to his house for a party he's throwing.

Hours later she is found in her bathtub, arms sliced, and very dead. Bruising all over her body and examination by the Medical Examiner reveal assault by multiple men and her system filled with an assortment of drugs. At first look, her death is looked at as a suicide.

But then ... various members of the football team are found dead. One looks like suicide ...one looks like an accident. But is that what they are .. or is it homicide?

Detectives Kane and Alton, along with their other team members, face a wall of silence from most of the student population.

And then a third student is found dead.

This is a well written crime fiction with solid, unique characters. Although this is 7th in the series, this one is easily read as a stand alone. I highly recommend starting at the beginning.... how the main characters got to where they are is remarkable reading. The ending was spine chilling.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Kane & Alton return from a trip away to the dead body of college student Christie Lowe dead in her shower with cut wrists.
Did she kill herself or has someone killed her. While they are trying to find out what happened to Christie they find out that she went to a party held by the college football team and was raped.
These boys all stand by each other. But one by one they are dying are they accidents or is someone killing them ?
This is the first book in this series I have read and I definitely will be reading more.
Thanks NetGalley

“I’m starting to believe we attract crime” hell yes Jenna you and Dave do…. Black Rock Falls is a magnet for the nasty people of Montana!! I blame that woman Hood writing these books 🤣🤣🤣

#poorpoorChrissie… this story all hinges around this poor girl and a traumatic demise. As Jenna and Dave poke and prod the students at the college for information, more bodies start to appear. The massive question is how these deaths are linked to Chrissie. For me, this story was more whether Dave and Jenna would catch their killer rather than the why or who… there was one particular scene that was just so tense, I didn’t realise I was holding my breath until the end of the chapter!!!

I really love my trips to Black Rock Falls. It’s like returning to another life where I feel at home. The imagery Hook creates makes me want to head stateside and find her inspiring landscape. One day I will persuade the other half we have to go!

Break The Silence is another fabulous arrow in the Kane and Alton quiver. I was glued to my kindle as I tapped through the pages! Bring on book 8!!!!

This story keeps you going from the beginning to the very end. When Jenna and David return from vacation they are thrown into crime almost immediately. Jenna the sheriff becomes more frustrated with the case as she begins to find out about serial rapists happening at the college and the quarterback who is the ringleader and because of his cockiness it is difficult to pin the crimes on him. As that is going on some of the football players who were also involved are now happening to die or be killed it is difficult for the coroner to determine the cause of death, accident or murder. All of this keeps the story moving along and there are really no slow parts, if you think there are it is only describing a crime scene or at the office. Overall, I really enjoyed the book the characters and really would have wished to have found this author earlier to have read the books before this one. Will keep you turning the pages until the very end.

Break the Silence is the seventh in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton, however, I was happy to jump straight in and read it independently without any issues as the author, D. K Hood provided enough background to allow me to feel comfortable with the characters and setting. Set in Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton makes a very likeable detective although a little short on inspiration and self-belief. However, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which seems to have more than its fair share of murders. Her deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills.

This novel was a fantastic, electrifying and solid police procedural and it was a well-balanced thriller that had me glued to the pages. I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. Even though Black Rock Falls was such a small place, Jenna and her team were still left with a lot of suspects to chase in a very tangled web of mystery. This really was a spectacular crime-thriller that grabbed me hook, line and sinker. The team embarked on an exciting and exhilarating mission to find the perpetrator and all the time the tension was being ratcheted up a notch as D. K Hood smacked me with some captivating misdirection and planted a few red herrings. The writing flowed effortlessly with a swift pace to it as Break the Silence delved into the topic of murder, both actual and attempted, with doses of bullying and gang rape.

I will be seeking out the previous six instalments of what is clearly a masterful series. A brilliant, nail-biting and highly recommended crime-thriller.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my request, from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I cannot believe that 'Break The Silence' is the seventh, yes the seventh, book in the series featuring Detectives Alton and Kane. I have read, reviewed and absolutely LOVED the previous six books in the series and I just knew that I would absolutely love 'Break The Silence' even before I started to read it. I must be psychic or psychopathic because I was so right. D. K. Hood has done it again and she has written a corker of a story, which I thoroughly enjoyed but more about that in a bit.
What can I say about Detective Jenna Alton? Well for a starter she is a dedicated detective with many years experience. Jenna was involved in a rather nasty case and situation, which left her with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). She left her old identity behind and created a new one. She moved to the area in which she now lives, to build a new life for herself. She is in charge of a small team, who in their own way have each suffered tragedy or illness. They are a pretty tight team and each has their others backs. When the story opens we learn that Jenna has returned from a holiday with her very good friend and deputy David Kane. She insists that they are just good friends but I did wonder if perhaps that friendship could turn over into something more. Jenna is tough, tenacious, stubborn, compassionate, sensitive, determined and kind. I took to Jenna from the start again and I really did feel as though I had reunited with old friends in Alton, Kane and the rest of the team.
I was hooked on this story from the moment I discovered the title, never mind the synopsis or the book itself. Reading 'Break The Silence' soon became an addiction. The book had developed a hold over me and it was a hold that I was not willing to break. I binge read the book over the course of a day because I became so wrapped up in the story that I couldn't bear to be parted from the book. I didn't put the book down at all whilst I was reading it. Everywhere I went, the book went. I did not wish to miss a single second of the story or a single clue or nugget of gossip. The more I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages were turning. I reached the end of the story quicker than I anticipated or wanted. I enjoyed the author's writing style, the characters and the storylines so much that I just wanted the book to continue.
D. K. Hood has done it again and she has written one hell of a cracking read. I didn't think that it was possible for her to write a book that was better than her last book but I couldn't have been more wrong. The series featuring Detectives Alton and Kane just goes from strength and strength and each book of the series is better than the previous book. The author has a writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. She certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and without you realising it, you are drawn into the story. She reels you in much as a fisherman reels in a catch. The author writes so realistically and she uses such vivid descriptions that I really did feel as thought I was part of the story myself and I was a new member of Alton's team. For me, 'Break The Silence' hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. I was totally gripped by the story and on the edge of my seat throughout.
Reading 'Break The Silence' was like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns to it than you would find on a 'Snakes & Ladders' board. Just when you thought that you could reclaim your stomach, gather your thoughts and allow your heart rate to rest then off the action would go again.
In short, 'Break The Silence' is another corker from D. K. Hood and it is sure to soar to the top of the best sellers list, which is nothing less than she deserves. The series featuring Detectives Alton and Kane just keeps getting better and better. I would definitely recommend this author and this series to other readers. I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Really enjoyed this one.
It was my first foray into the author's work and I will certainly be reading others.
A good, solid police procedural thriller, well written with a great pace.
Didn't suss out the killer so the twist was a very satisfying one.
